The Art of Chaotic Divinity-Chapter 1155: Thunder Orb
"A mere illusory incarnation dares to be so arrogant?"
A shadow flashed across the air. In the next instant, a chain of black elemental qi shot out, wrapping tightly around the Heaven-Patrolling Angel. The inscriptions on the chain pulsed with light, sealing him in place. He struggled, but his limbs could not move at all!
"It's you!"
The Heaven-Patrolling Angel's pupils contracted sharply as realization struck. "You're the one who injured my true body more than ten years ago!"
"Noise. An illusion like you isn't qualified to speak to me."
The shadow lifted his hand and clenched his fingers. A sharp crack followed. The angel's body twisted apart and exploded into streaks of crimson lightning before dispersing completely into nothingness.
Ling Feng swallowed hard. That same Heaven-Patrolling Angel had almost killed him moments ago, yet this black-robed figure had destroyed him with a single, effortless move. Who in the world was this man?
When Ling Feng raised his head, he saw that the stranger was wrapped in a dark cloak, a mask covering his face. Only a pair of deep, unfathomable eyes shone through the shadows.
"Thank you for saving my life, Senior!"
Ling Feng took a deep breath and clasped his hands in salute.
"Hmph. Too weak!"
The old man shook his head and turned away without another glance.
Ling Feng blinked, a little annoyed. Weak or not, what did that have to do with him? Even if the man had saved his life, did he have to act so superior?
"Senior, you said that Heaven-Patrolling Angel was only an external illusion. Then where is his true body?"
Ling Feng's fists tightened as hatred burned in his eyes.
"Oh? You wish to find his true body? Are you not afraid of death?"
The black-robed man's gaze softened slightly, a hint of amusement flickering in his voice.
"Even if I can't defeat him now, that doesn't mean I never will. I will kill him one way or another!"
The black-robed man nodded lightly. "Your strength is lacking, but at least you have spirit. Since you wish to find his true body, I'll give you a few clues."
He flicked his sleeve and spoke evenly. "Ten years ago, in the Tianlan Sea Region, I fought that man. Though I gained the upper hand, his true body escaped. Since then, he has used divine power to create countless clones, gathering rare bloodlines to restore the divine blood he lost in that battle."
"Each time he created a clone, I destroyed it. Through those encounters, I learned something important."
"What did you learn?" Ling Feng asked at once, his gaze fixed on the man.
"His true body is hiding somewhere within the Sea of Miracles."
The man stood with his hands behind his back. "The rules of time and space there are unstable. Even with my power, if I were to forcefully cross the Sea of Miracles' portals, the spatial layers would collapse. I might be able to kill him, but I would be trapped there forever. I can only watch while he hides and recovers."
His gaze turned toward Ling Feng. "If you truly have the resolve, take this orb into the Sea of Miracles. Within it lies one strike containing a third of my strength. As long as you press it against that man's chest, he will die without question!"
He opened his palm, and a transparent orb the size of a fist floated up. Inside, threads of black lightning intertwined and flickered brilliantly. Ling Feng could feel the terrifying power sealed within.
"Well? Do you have the courage? Even with this orb, you may never get the chance to use it. The odds of survival are slim."
The man studied Ling Feng closely, as though measuring his resolve.
"Please entrust it to me, Senior!"
Without hesitation, Ling Feng cupped his fists. "Even without it, I would still go."
"Very well. This is your decision."
The figure in black robe gazed intently at Ling Feng. After a moment of hesitation, he passed the orb into Ling Feng's hands. "It will only detonate when you approach his true body. You must stay at least five hundred zhang away when it explodes, or you'll be caught in the blast."
Ling Feng accepted it with both hands and nodded solemnly. "Thank you, Senior."
"Don't thank me. You might not live long enough to regret this."
Ling Feng smiled faintly. "I've never been one to die easily!"
He looked at the man and suddenly asked, "Senior, since you know that man's identity as a Heaven-Patrolling Angel, yet still dare to attack him, could it be that you are also of the Heavenly Dao race?"
"Whether I am or not has nothing to do with you. You are still far too weak."
The figure in black robe's voice was several degrees colder, extinguishing Ling Feng's curiosity like pouring ice water over his head.
"I just want to know if you are my..."
As the figure in black robe turned his back, Ling Feng bit down, choking the word "grandfather" back into his stomach.
The black-robed man paused and, noticing the dim look on Ling Feng's face, spoke again. "If you can survive the Sea of Miracles, perhaps I will tell you something then. For now, leave. You wouldn't want the Heaven-Patrolling Angel's true body to discover you too soon."
"Senior, you—"
Before Ling Feng could finish, the man swept his sleeve. A powerful force sent both Ling Feng and the Despicable Donkey flying out of the inner island. When Ling Feng regained his footing, he was already standing on the outer perimeter.
Within the inner island, the black-robed man stood silently. After a moment, he sighed and landed on the massive boulder where the angel's illusion had once sat. He reached into the stone and pulled out a thumb-sized crystal.
A crisp crack sounded as he crushed it. His eyes gleamed coldly. "Heaven-Patrolling Angel, await the gift I've prepared for you!"
The crystal contained the complete memory of the illusion. Once shattered, the angel's true body would only receive fragments of those memories. The man had already erased everything related to Ling Feng. When the Heaven-Patrolling Angel sensed his avatar's destruction, he would only see what the black-robed man wanted him to see.
...
Deep within the Sea of Miracles.
A red-haired man sat cross-legged at the edge of a cliff. Suddenly, dizziness struck him, and flashes of scattered images filled his mind. In those fragments appeared a masked figure clad in black, and his frown deepened with every passing second.
"Damn it, you again!"
The red-haired man roared in fury. "When I emerge from seclusion, I'll tear you apart! Tear you apart!!!"
