Chapter 1120: Dragonfire Mystic True Pill

Three days later.

"We are finally back!"

Staring up at the towering city gates, Ling Feng felt a surge of emotion. The memory of his first arrival at the imperial capital was still vivid, as if it had happened only yesterday.

Tuoba Yan walked leisurely at his side. The Mystic Nether Whitefish had worked wonders for her. For the Tiance Clan, strengthening spiritual consciousness was no different from gaining raw power.

Her cultivation had already surpassed Ling Feng's, reaching the fourth level of the Spiritual Element Realm. With the Tiance Mirror, the sacred relic of her clan, her strength was now on par with Jiang Xiaofan and Li Bufan.

Of course, her progress was also due in part to the Profound Yin Maiden Art that Yan Cangtian had passed down to her.

Before long, Ling Feng returned quietly to Tianwei Academy. Every corner was familiar to him, and he soon found his way to Yan Cangtian's residence.

Since Ling Feng's departure, Elder Yan had once again been left alone with no one to look after him. Most likely, he had thrown himself entirely into alchemy and cultivation.

As Ling Feng approached the inner courtyard, a wave of scorching heat washed over him from the direction of the alchemy room.

He shook his head with a wry smile. Elder Yan was refining pills again.

Ling Feng gestured for Tuoba Yan to wait in the courtyard and then moved toward the alchemy room. Inside, Yan Cangtian controlled flames with one hand while recording notes with the other. His expression shifted constantly between joy and worry, completely absorbed in his work.

"Master is still the same. Once he begins refining, the rest of the world no longer exists for him."

Part of this, Ling Feng suspected, was because of the Empress Dowager. That old woman had once taken advantage of Yan Cangtian's trust to lure him into the palace and use him to threaten Ling Feng. Her betrayal had shattered his faith completely.

Since then, Yan Cangtian had buried himself in alchemy, numbing his heart so he would not dwell on her again.

"Master, you must have left out one ingredient in the Dragonfire Mystic True Pill. That explains why the furnace flames refuse to stabilize and why the heat keeps leaking out."

Ling Feng pushed open the door and spoke with a laugh.

"Hm?"

Yan Cangtian looked up, then broke into laughter when he saw Ling Feng. "You brat! Weren't you serving in the Nanjiang army? How did you return so quickly?"

"The campaign in Nanjiang is over. There was no reason to stay any longer."

Ling Feng walked forward and stood before the furnace. Using the Nine Refinements of Mystic Fire, he guided the flames and drew the surging heat back into the furnace.

"Master, to think you managed to complete the pill formula for the Dragonfire Mystic True Pill in just two months!" he said with a cheerful smile.

"Rascal, enough flattery. You saw through my pill at a glance, even knowing which ingredient was missing. Clearly, you had already figured it out long ago!"

Yan Cangtian gave him a look, secretly impressed. Ling Feng's attainments in alchemy had grown formidable. His method of controlling fire now blended the Daoist Art of Heavenly Fire with the Nine Refinements of Mystic Fire he had learned from the Empire's Top Poison Master, Su Dongling. At this point, Ling Feng could be counted as a first-rated pill refiner in the land.

"I only understood just now by watching you work, Master," Ling Feng replied modestly.

With the two of them working together, half an hour later the batch of Dragonfire Mystic True Pills was finally complete.

Though one ingredient had been missing, Ling Feng's intervention had allowed the pills to take shape. Their efficacy was not perfect, but they were still far superior to ordinary half-finished products.

"Haha, boy, tell me everything. What thrills did you encounter in Nanjiang? Indulge this old man's curiosity!"

After storing away the pills, Yan Cangtian urged him eagerly.

"Yes, Master."

Ling Feng smiled and began recounting his experiences, how he had infiltrated the demon race's sacred land, how Mu Qianxue had revealed her divine race identity to save him, how he had ultimately defused the war between humans and demons, and how he had crossed paths with the Demon-Masked Lord, Lin Canglang.

He spoke lightly, leaving out the bloodier details. At the end, he also shared his next plan.

"Mhmm."

Yan Cangtian listened and then patted him on the shoulder. "Your two months of experience were more than what most people live through in a lifetime."

Ling Feng gave a bitter smile. "I would rather have had less experience. In the end, Qianxue has left, and Xian'er has been reduced to little more than a living husk!"

"Not everything is within your control," Yan Cangtian consoled him. "What matters is that you still have a chance to set things right. With your talent, even if I do not fully understand what being of the divine race means, I know you will not lose to anyone. Since you have decided to go to the Dongling Immortal Pool, I support you wholeheartedly. But remember this. The Dongling Immortal Pool is not a small place like the Tianbai Empire. It is where true geniuses gather. You must be cautious in everything."

"I understand, Master."

Ling Feng nodded and then took out the sword manual Art of Simple Detachment. Smiling faintly, he said, "On my way back through the Sea-Blue Abyss, I obtained the complete contents of the Art of Simple Detachment. I have already memorized it. This is the core method of a divine scripture. I will leave it to you, Master!"

Yan Cangtian's pupils contracted. He accepted the beast hide scroll, and after reading closely, disbelief spread across his face.

After a long moment, his voice was full of awe. "Good boy. I gave you a fragment, and you return with a complete scripture. It seems I have profited greatly!"

Ling Feng laughed. "Then surely you must have a few more fragments hidden away. Why not give them all to me?"

"There are none left. Do you think such treasures grow on trees?"

Yan Cangtian glared at him. "You little monster. In just one year you have drained all of my secrets. Now it is as if you could be my teacher instead. You infiltrated the demon sacred land and fought a demon emperor head-on. Even I would never have dared such madness. But next time, do not act so recklessly. You will not always have a divine race saintess by your side to shield you!"

"I will remember your words." Ling Feng gave a helpless smile. He knew his master only worried for him, so he offered no argument.

In truth, he rarely had a choice. 𝚏𝕣𝕖𝚎𝚠𝚎𝚋𝚗𝐨𝐯𝕖𝕝.𝕔𝐨𝕞

Danger and trouble seemed to pursue him relentlessly. He could never truly escape them!

"Enough. I will not nag further, or you will think your old master too long-winded."

Yan Cangtian stroked his beard and brought out a slim booklet. "This contains sixty-six pill formulas. I deduced them from the discarded pills you brought back from the Battlefield of the Gods and Demons. One copy for you, one for me. To an alchemist, pill formulas are treasure. Keep them well. They will be of great use at the Dongling Immortal Pool."

"Thank you, Master!"

Ling Feng accepted the booklet with excitement. Ancient pill formulas like these were priceless!

"And here," Yan Cangtian continued, handing over another bundle of notes, "this is what I uncovered about the Divine Desolation Treasure Box. It is not much, but it may still help you. This is the last bit I can do as your master. From here on, everything depends on you."

Ling Feng looked at him with deep emotion. To have such a master in this lifetime was truly his greatest fortune.
