The Ancient Gods' Whisper-Chapter 1054 - 494: The Hunt Begins! (2)
"Aren’t you going to kill me?"
Professor Cheng asked softly.
"If you truly feel guilty, then spend the rest of your life atoning. Dedicate yourself to science in the lab, or risk your life on the battlefield. Even letting those children kill you in anger would be more worthwhile than dying by my hand. I know it wasn’t your true intention, but some things, once done, are done."
Gu Jianlin paused: "At least, one day you can openly apologize to the victims."
Professor Cheng was silent for a moment, then smiled silently and looked up at the compassionate Buddha statue.
"According to the prophecy from Laojun Mountain, it’s still uncertain where the President has hidden the Heavenly Person’s Wedge, but at least it’s confirmed to appear within a month. These are dire times, and the Judgement Court will be very cautious. After the battle at Hongqiao Airport, Qing and Chi have disappeared, and your high profile will inevitably attract more attention."
He paused: "The Demon Hunters you killed today have already aroused their vigilance. If I’m not mistaken, they will invite a master to pinpoint your location next."
Gu Jianlin responded with a hum: "I understand."
He pushed open the door and walked out. As he left, he glanced back at the balcony of the study, where the kneeling, repentant old man sat on a meditation mat, under the quiet gaze of the ancient Buddha statue, whose eyes showed neither sorrow nor joy.

Xia Zhi sat on a bench at the playground, silently munching on a cold hamburger. She saw a familiar figure walking along the shaded path and stood up with surprise, waving her hand, yet she complained, "Why did it take so long?"
Gu Jianlin came up to her, and she handed him a lunchbox.
"It’s too late today, so let’s just have a casual dinner. I’ll make you a snack when we get back." Xia Zhi’s hand suddenly froze, and her eyes became apprehensive, realizing that the young man before her came from a prestigious family and might disdain such a cheap fast-food lunchbox.
Gu Jianlin didn’t think much, took it, and sat on the bench, calmly asking: "Didn’t I tell you to go back?"
With the Shadow protecting her closely, her safety wasn’t a concern.
"I was afraid you’d say something rude. Professor Cheng’s temper isn’t that good."
Xia Zhi propped her chin with her hands, curiously watching him: "What did you all talk about?"
Gu Jianlin glanced at her: "In short, it’s a topic you wouldn’t understand."
He opened the lunchbox, which contained simple stir-fried shredded potatoes with rice. It tasted alright, anyway, he was never the picky type.
He was still digesting the earlier conversation; tonight involved a lot of information, and he needed to think it over carefully.
Including the hard drive that recorded secrets about the Third Law.
If he could thoroughly study it, he might be able to save more patients with Frida’s Schizophrenia.
For example, Xia Zhi, he could use her as a guinea pig first.
"What’s the big deal."
Xia Zhi seemed a bit upset, but seeing that he wasn’t bothered by her cheap lunchbox, she happily stretched and said: "My pursuits are different from yours. I don’t want to study something so profound."
Gu Jianlin casually asked: "What are your pursuits?"
Xia Zhi tilted her head, thought for a moment: "Just getting by is good enough, and I hope my family can be happy and joyful."
Gu Jianlin nodded slightly: "Anything else?"
Xia Zhi thought seriously: "Marrying into a wealthy family as a rich lady?"
When she said this, her eyes and brows couldn’t hide her smile, clearly already imagining the happy life after being taken care of by a wealthy CEO. For her, a wealthy family meant villas, luxury cars, endless cosmetics and skincare products, and spontaneous trips.
Unfortunately, she became discouraged halfway through her thought: "I still don’t know if I can graduate smoothly."
Gu Jianlin asked calmly: "Why?"
"I’m sick."
Xia Zhi pointed to her head: "Sick here."
Gu Jianlin acknowledged with a hum: "I can see that."
Xia Zhi didn’t realize he was mocking her stupidity, and said dejectedly: "My illness has worsened a lot recently, and passing the exams smoothly is a bit difficult. If my graduation rating is low, I might be assigned to an even worse position than this year, and survival would be a concern then."
She also knew that war was coming.
Gu Jianlin thought for a while: "Don’t worry, it’ll get better."
At this moment, Xia Zhi didn’t know he was telling the truth, thinking he was just encouraging her, and said with a cheerful smile: "Then I’ll take your word! Shall we go back for a late-night snack?" 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝚠𝚎𝚋𝗻𝗼𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝚘𝐦
As she stood up, she was suddenly pressed down.
"What?"
Xia Zhi looked at the hand on her shoulder.
Gu Jianlin was silent for a moment and suddenly said: "No matter what happens later, don’t be afraid."
Xia Zhi was stunned, suddenly recalling that in class today, he said something completely illogical.
He said he was killing somebody.
But it was during class, how could he kill someone?
And here at the Central Spirit Core Institute, how could one just kill?
Gu Jianlin, however, felt the Life Rhythm hidden in the night, like the sound of knives and swords clashing, or the dull pounding of war hammers, lurking in all directions, ready to strike.
This was a well-trained army, even including quite a few at the Holy Land Level.
His calmness stemmed not only from his own strength but also from the promises of his teacher and uncle.
