The Alpha's Omega Mate-Chapter 72: Meet cute.
~Dahlia’s POV~
Our lips collided like limbs during the dance called tango; and in that moment everything else disappeared. My name... his name... our different ranks— all were like whispers in the wind, almost forgotten, barely there.
Alpha Zarek’s kiss was urgent, hot, punishing like he’s been refraining from touching me for so long, but beneath the urgency and barely tapped passion, there was something more, something deeper. Something that made my knees weak and my body torn to jello.
His tongue flicked over mine, sending a shiver down my spine, and I could almost feel the emotions he wasn’t saying, pouring into every movement. This wasn’t just passion; it was need, longing. It was him showing me everything we haven’t said. Everything we couldn’t say to each other.
His hands slid up my back, pulling me close, as though he couldn’t stand the thought of even an inch of space between us and instinctively, I pressed into him, completely lost in the intensity of his touch, my heart pounding in time with his. And I gasped when it found its way to the back of my neck, gripping it, holding it firmly as he ravaged my mouth.
The connection was undeniable, electric, as if the kiss was a way to say everything we couldn’t. I could feel the world around us go blurry, as if fading into nothing but the heat of his lips and the weight of his body against mine. My fingers slipped into his hair, holding on as if I was afraid to let go, like this kiss was the only thing keeping me tethered to reality.
I could feel his heartbeat hammering against my chest, wild and frantic, and I knew he felt it too, the way this kiss was more than just a kiss.
It was a release, a confession, something we’d both been holding onto for too long.
When he finally pulled back, just enough for us to take in greedy breaths, his forehead rested against mine. Our breaths came in shaky pants, the space between us thick with all the undeniable tension. I opened my eyes and met his gaze, and the look there made my breath catch.
It wasn’t just desire I found whirling in those green orbs, it was something deeper, something hotter. Something that we dared not talk about. Something that was too fiery, it threatened to scorch us both.
Alpha Zarek was the first to snap out of his trance, he took in a deep breath, as if taking my scent in and when he peeled his eyes open shortly afterwards, I was mesmerized by the green of his eyes. Shocked at the intense emotions he laid out bare for the world to see, unashamedly.
His hand still resting at the back of my neck tugged gently on my hair, and I yelped, stunned that he would do something like that. I was even more stunned when he flashed me a smile, his perfect teeth coming into view.
He murmured; "Let’s leave before we freeze to death."
His words were so formal, so normal. It had me wondering if it was indeed I he was speaking to, and when I remembered that we were the only living souls around here, I nodded.
"You go first, I’ll come after you."
He frowned. "Why? Do you still want to stay here and think? It’s very windy now and soon, it’ll begin to rain." He said softly, and the worry in his voice had my stomach twisting into knots.
My stomach churned as his words washed over me like a silky shawl and I looked up at him, a mixture of confusion and amazement in my eyes. "No, I just..."
"Let’s go, Dahlia!" He urged and I gulped, blushing at the way my name rolled off his tongue like a lover’s caress. I could never get used to him calling me by name. I could never get used to the way he looked at me like I was the only star in the sky.
While we talked, I tried my hardest to ensure that my eyes did not wander beyond his neck. I tried my hardest to shake off the fact that he was steaming hot, and butt naked, and standing in front of me without a care in the world.
I tried not to care about the fact that he was my mate, and how the thought of having him this close was doing crazy things to me, but it was impossible. It was impossible to shake him off, impossible not to think of him, impossible not to be flustered, not when he was standing this close to me, not when the warmth emanating from him burned me in a way that was oddly satisfying.
I forced myself to meet his gaze and I whispered; "Please go."
His brows furrowed. "Why?" He whispered in his unusually soft voice— too soft, it made the dead butterflies in my stomach flutter awake.
"Because I don’t want you to be seen with me. I do not want the parading warriors and guards to have the weirdest thoughts about what this is!"
"And what is this?"
The question was like a blow to my guts, I reeled. For the first few minutes, I had no response to give to him. I couldn’t even move but could only open and close my mouth continuously like a fish forcefully taken out of water.
I watched in horror as he leaned against a tree, his arms crossed over his chest and his eyes fastened onto mine— a posture that showed how much of his attention I had, and it was a lot. It was all of it.
I gulped. "You’re my master."
"You’re not a slave."
"But you bought me. You got me from the auction house. You paid about four million gold coins to have me and my daughter, and I remember—"
"Aww, I am flattered that you remember our meet cute so vividly." He drawled, interrupting me.
My face burned. Even the tips of my ears felt like they’d been put in raw fire when I heard his words.
’Meet cute’?
Why exactly would he call it that?
My eyes found his and I wasn’t so surprised to find a small smirk playing around the corners of his lips, and then it struck me. It finally struck me. He also remembered buying me from the auction house. He didn’t look fazed when I recalled the events to him; and that meant he knew he bought me.
Not because I told him but because he always knew.
And that’s because he never forgot.
He didn’t lose his memories!
My eyes thinned as I glared at him, but I dared not voice my thoughts. At least, not yet.
Stealing a glance at the trees and the dark thick clouds overhead, I turned to him and whispered; "Okay, let’s go." 𝚏𝐫𝚎𝗲𝕨𝐞𝐛𝕟𝚘𝐯𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝗺
He smirked then, nodding as he leaned away from the tree. I watched him as he looked up at the clouds, his nose twitched and his eyes darkened slightly before he turned his attention to me. He said;
"It’ll rain pretty soon and we’re miles away from the pack house. I’ll shift now and when I do, get on my back. That way, it’ll be faster to get us back home."
Alpha Zarek didn’t wait for me to respond to his words. He didn’t even glance at me as he soon began to shift, the ripping sounds of flesh filled the air, accompanied by the sound of cracking bones that was the telltale sign of a person shifting.
In the place where he once stood, a massive black wolf now occupied, and usually, I should’ve felt frightened by its presence or even threatened by it, but I didn’t. Not when its green eyes bore into me like lasers.
Not when my body felt like it was attuned to its presence.
’Get on my back!’ A frustrated voice sounded in my head and I gasped when I realized that for the first time, he’d mind-linked me.
My jaw dropped.
