The Alpha's Omega Mate-Chapter 65: Rage.
~Dahlia’s POV~
Rage.
It simmered just underneath the surface of my skin. It has become a familiar feeling for me lately and it was the only thing I felt as I grabbed a fistful of Ms Jennifer’s hair without thinking.
She screamed out in pain.
But I didn’t care. I didn’t even let go as I continued to pull at it with all my might, even as a few strands of silky blonde hair slipped to the floor and through my fingers, and even as her agonized wails echoed throughout the hallway.
"You bitch!" She wailed, slapping and scratching desperately at my arms. Her long claw-like nails broke my skin, leaving trails of crimson in their wake, but I could only smirk and pull harder, not caring.
I could feel it. Something in me had snapped. Something dark and relatively primal had been let out of its cage.
—It was the same feeling I’d felt with Madame Berlin, at the time I had been so close to snuffing the life out of her.
I reveled in the sensation coursing through my veins, taking in the way her pained cries sounded like music to my ears. She’s been doing this for so long, punishing me for crimes that I had nothing to do with, hitting me for rains best known to her, and continuously lying against me just to get me in trouble; But no more.
And especially not today.
Her hands connected with my face again with a loud crack but this time, rather than pulling into myself like I usually would afterwards, I drew my right hand so far back, it nearly reached my left shoulder and then I descended— slapping her with all my might, and listening in satisfaction as the loud smack sound rang through the eerily quiet space.
Her face lolled to the side and a splash of red immediately colored her cheek.
I smiled, feeling intense satisfaction.
"What the hell is happening here?!" The annoying voice of a palace guard had me so shocked that I stepped back, and Ms Jennifer, stealing this opportunity, stuck out one of her feet, causing me to tumble to the floor face-first when I tripped on it.
My rage flared. I bared my teeth.
"A maid fighting with the lady of the house?!" The guard’s voice was loud, incredulous. "I’ll report this to the Alpha!"
"Oh no, please before you do, punish her! I command you!" Ms Jennifer shrieked, covering the side of her face as she tried to appear as pitiful as possible. I rolled my eyes at her poor attempt at looking innocent but before I could spit out a remark, I felt something hard tug at my hair. And then a kick was sent flying to my midriff.
But I didn’t make a sound. Not when satisfaction still buzzed in my veins.
However, the guard didn’t stop. Under Ms Jennifer’s command, he hit me more times. First a blow, then a sharp kick to my ribs. The impact sent me sprawling, pain exploding at my sides, and I gritted my teeth when Ms Jennifer’s shrill giggle sounded afterwards.
"Again!" She called out lazily, "I doubt she even felt that one!"
And like that, another kick descended upon me.
I gasped but I kept my lips sealed, not making any sound to indicate I was in pain.
"She’s a witch, she wouldn’t beg!" Ms Jennifer snarled. Leaning forward to grab my face in her hands, she spat; "You’re pathetic!"
But I didn’t respond to that. I wouldn’t give her the satisfaction of a response. I wouldn’t engage her, not when strands of her hair still littered the floor. Not when I could see the slight fear dancing around her bright eyes.
I lifted my gaze, my eyes locking on hers but I didn’t say a word. Her jaws ticked, her eyes darkened. She grabbed my hair, jerking my head back and gritted out; "Speak, you runt!"
But I didn’t. I smirked.
Now, I could feel the strong metallic taste of blood in my mouth. I could feel how it continued to fill my mouth as more blood poured out from my burst lips. My smirk faltered for a brief second, and when I saw the triumphant look beginning to seep into Ms Jennifer’s eyes, I drew my head back and... spat.
The thick crimson liquid splattered across her expensive boots and she drew in a sharp breath.
First came silence.
Then came the rage.
She snapped. Literally.
One minute she had a smug smile plastered across her face as she glared down at me in triumph, and the next, she was a literal fire spitting monster. A string of damning expletives left her mouth like a torrent from a bad water faucet, but before I could make sense of what she was saying, hands descended upon me.
She hit me everywhere and anywhere her hands could reach, blowing, scratching, slapping while the guard continued to kick me from the side.
Groans of agony escaped my lips as pain exploded on my skin. But I didn’t fight back. I do not know why, but I couldn’t bring myself to. Maybe because I felt outnumbered... maybe it was for another reason.
I curled into myself, protecting what little I could as they continued to strike me, but it was futile. The pain had no end.
And neither did my hatred.
Neither did my rage.
A growl that should’ve had me trembling in the knees emanated from deep down my chest, and I noticed how Ms Jennifer stepped back in fear before she regained her composure, and continued to hit me mercilessly.
But I didn’t feel her hits.
I felt something else.
I felt the monster lurking somewhere deep beneath the surface of my skin. I felt the strange surge of strength that I’ve been experiencing these past few days slam into me forcefully.
Usually, whenever it comes, it makes me so afraid; But not today. Today, I welcomed it. I basked in its hollow comfort.
My arms snapped upward on its own accord and my eyes widened when a pain-filled grunt rang out. It wasn’t until that moment that I noticed my fingers wrapped around the guard’s neck, his eyes wide as he regarded me fearfully.
"P-please..." he choked out, but I was too far gone to listen. Too enraged to care.
Slowly, I rose to my full 5 feet plus whatever that y’all do not need to know with my fingers still wrapped around his neck. Ms Jennifer stepped back, her loud scream ringing through my ears but I didn’t pay any attention to her. She was the least of my concerns right now.
She would be... later.
My fingers began to close up around the guard’s neck but before I could feel myself snapping it, I felt a push— strong and hard.
Someone barreled into me, causing a loud grunt to slip past my lips as I fell to the floor.
My rage knew no bounds as at that point and I growled angrily as I turned around to attack the person who had run into me.
However, I froze in my tracks when I was met with shocked green eyes.
The eyes of my mate.
My anger dissipated like a cloud of smoke.
