The Alpha's Omega Mate-Chapter 38: Chaos.
Zarek’s POV~
"How much longer do you intend to embarrass me like this in front of your subjects, Zarek?" Jennifer snarled with both of her hands planted on her waist as she glared up at me in contempt. "Why do you always try to make life unbearably annoying?"
I tilted my head to the side as I stared up at her from my position on the throne, and to say that I was confused about what she was going about would be an understatement of the century.
"What is it, this time?" I drawled, uninterested.
She huffed and puffed like a bull after a wild fight but said nothing. I had even begun to think that she would never speak when she pointed in Amara’s— who was playing with some wooden toys— direction and snarled;
"What’s that thing doing here?!"
"I brought her here."
"Why?"
Now, I was irritated. Abandoning the scrolls and thousands of parchments I needed to look through before dinnertime, I turned to face Jennifer, internally rolling my eyes when I met hers thinned into fierce slits."I don’t think I am supposed to answer to you or anyone before bringing anyone into the house—into my house—and I know you know that too."
"But it’s our house Zarek!" She snapped, stomping her feet on the floor. "It’s our house because I am your fiancée! Your Luna and she’s the daughter of a thief!"
Oh goddess, those lines again.
I tried so hard not to be pissed. Even the Heavens know how much it took me to reign my several emotions in because of the innocent girl playing not so far away from me. At the thought of the girl, I looked in her direction and something akin to guilt settled in the base of my stomach when I noticed that she had stopped playing and was now staring at Jennifer and I in fear.
Desperate to have her comfortable, I dropped my voice and turned to Jennifer. "She stays here while her mother works. That’s not too hard or is it?"
"And since when did you start to cater for your slaves’ children?" The rage in her voice was evident. But there was something else. Something that tethered towards.. jealousy?
A whack headache had begun to form between my eyes from trying so hard to pay attention to Jennifer while she screamed out words instead of speaking like normal people would, and right now, I wanted nothing more than to have her leave my sight.
"Since now." I replied indifferently. "I have begun to care about my slaves’ children. Satisfied?"
If she was angry before then now she was extremely pissed. In the first second after my statement, she didn’t move. She didn’t even say anything but simply glared at me like she couldn’t believe I said something like that, and then suddenly, as if possessed by some invisible force, she turned away.
And at first, I thought that she was about to retire to her chambers. I even thought that maybe she had finally given up. I returned to my scrolls but then my eyes snapped up when a shrill scream sounded not so far off.
My eyes widened when I glanced in Amara’s direction only to find Jennifer’s hands wrapped around her arm as she practically dragged her out of the throne room. I saw red.
A sizzling red rage.
I still do not know how but one second I was in my chair, with a few scrolls in hand and the next minute, my hands were latched around Jennifer’s arm while the child who was with her was now secured protectively behind my back.
I seethed. "What were you trying to do?"
"I was showing the stupid mutt her place since you’ve refused to do it!" She snapped back at me, her eyes wild with rage.
I could swear that in all the time I’ve known Jennifer, I have never known her to be someone like this. She used to be so sweet, so fun to be around... so femininely fake. But nothing like this. She was different these days especially since Dahlia was brought into the house.
"She’s only a child, Jennifer."
"A child to a thief!" She hissed.
I frowned, frustration seeping into my veins. "I don’t care what you think about her or her mother. I don’t care about the issues you have with her mother. Leave the child out of it!"
And with that, I picked little Amara into my arms as I stalked back to my chair, ignoring the way Jennifer cursed and screamed behind me. Knowing her, I knew that she would get tired soon and maybe leave as well, however, I was surprised when she instead marched over to where I was now sitting, with Amara sitting on one of the chairs closest to me.
She snapped. "If you keep disrespecting me in front of everyone every time, you’ll force me to do what I’ll regret, Zarek."
"For now, it’s Alpha Zarek to you." I drawled, leaning back to glare at her.
Jennifer’s jaw dropped. "Do you know what that means? Do you know what you’re implying by saying something like that?"
"I am treating you as one of my subjects since you don’t know your place around here anymore."
A feeling akin to discomfort settled at my stomach when her gaze fell on Amara and held. She gritted out; "I am still your fiancée."
"And I would love it if you’d stop saying that all the time. That’s literally your only argument whenever you cross the line."
"Zarek?"
"Alpha Zarek." I snarled. "Don’t be slow."
She froze.
I saw her turn to Amara again but just as she opened her mouth, to probably spew something vile at the young child, I snapped; "LEAVE!"
It took several moments for my words to settle in Jennifer’s mind, and when it did, the rage that contorted her face was so vile and so strong, I could feel it oozing from her in waves.
Her eyes widened infinitesimally only for her usual mask of indifference to slip right back and then she seethed; "We shall see!"
And with that, she turned and stalked off, leaving both me and a stunned Amara watching as she dramatically made her way out of the room.
