The Alpha's Omega Mate-Chapter 183: The Devil’s Incarnate.
~Kai’s POV~
I glanced at the paperwork in front of me with curious excitement. And sweet heavens, I cannot lie, Alpha Kael’vorn was good. Too good. It was probably the reason my father believed him and spoke so highly of him even until his death.
And I wouldn’t be surprised if it was also the reason Alpha Logan wanted him out of the way so badly.
"No." Alpha Kael’vorn drawled, looking at me seriously.
For a moment, I was stunned into silence, unsure as to whether he was talking to me or not. When he still wouldn’t say anything to clarify that, I asked; "No, what?"
Now, his face was stone cold. His expression closed off like he had been the first day he arrived here— that is until Amara’s charm began to rub off on him.
"No, Alpha Logan didn’t want me out of the way because I was a good strategist." He drawled quietly.
Wait, had I said that out loud? 𝐟𝐫𝕖𝗲𝘄𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝕧𝐞𝚕.𝕔𝕠𝐦
"No, but I seldom have this fleeting ability where I can hear people’s thoughts." He answered, further proving his point by answering a question I hadn’t even asked.
I gasped, stunned.
"WOW."
"So why did he want you out of the way if it wasn’t for your strength and how much of a better Alpha you’d been?" I asked, genuinely confused.
Alpha Kael’vorn went quiet for a few minutes, and at first, I had almost begun to think that he would never respond until he shrugged, his eyes now clouded with emotions I couldn’t quite decipher.
He drawled; "Because he loved Nina. He wanted my wife... and I guess getting me out of the way was the only way he thought he could achieve that."
Wait, what?

~Dahlia’s POV~
"Dahlia?" A shocked voice called out to me as I rounded the halls leading up to Zarek’s chambers. My hand froze mid-action, just brushing against the cool metal that was the door’s handle. My breath hitched as I slowly spun around to meet a face I hadn’t been expecting to see.
"Dr Ava?" I gasped, my breath catching as I quickly glanced around us. "What are you doing here?"
She hadn’t even gotten the opportunity to respond when I pulled her into a crushing hug, sighing when her soft perfume wafted into my nostrils. "I missed you."
For a minute, I thought about the possibility of her being my family, worse still—with the way my lick was going— my sister. But I bit down on the thoughts, and instead begrudgingly pulled away from her to take a closer look at her.
"You look tired." I pointed out worriedly, "you’ve been overworking yourself."
Dr Ava sighed before flashing me one of her infamous sweet grins. She pouted. "I cannot help it. There’s always someone with an injury somewhere... a broken limb, a fractured knee... a swollen gum. Just anything! We’re werewolves remember so basically we act like animals."
I smiled. "I’m glad that you’re fine."
For a minute, Dr Ava’s eyes trailed down the empty corridor, but just as she opened her mouth to speak, she immediately snapped it shut, and then she shook her head, her smile falling.
"Have you heard from grandmama Lupe?"
The name brought s fresh feeling of nostalgia flowing through my bones— and with it came a gnawing worry. One that I couldn’t quite shake off. I shook my head. "No."
Now, Ava could no longer hide her fear. She muttered; "She left two days after you—" but just as she began to speak, a bodyguard passed by, eyeing us with skepticism. Ava coughed. "I think we have a whole lot of catching up to do."
"I think so too." I said excitedly— even though I sure as hell didn’t feel excited at the moment. I waited until the guard was out of earshot, or at least until I thought he was out of earshot before I turned back to her.
"Why are you here?"
"I was... Alpha... I’ve been working on a project for Alpha Zarek these past few days and I wanted to help with..."
The way she fumbled with her words and the way she twisted her fingers almost painfully made me realize that this was no ordinary ’project’.
I cocked my eyebrows at her in askance, and even though deep down, all I wanted to do was to throw my arms around her again, I couldn’t help but be suspicious. I asked; "What project?"
At that, Dr Ava dropped her gaze and looked away from me to brush a crease on her skirt. It wasn’t until this moment that I noticed some slight resemblance between herself and my father. A chill ran down my spine.
"He was creating a locator spell. He asked me to create one. To find you." She drawled, her voice so low I had to strain to hear her. "But since you’re here already, I don’t think... I don’t think there’s any reason for him to—"
I froze.
"He was creating a locator spell?" I gawked, "to find me?"
"Yes, after Dr Zorina was caught and we found out that what happened to you might’ve been staged, he began to look for ways to find you... so as to ensure that I perform the ritual to make you gain your lost memories."
"Oh."
I should be mad.
Goddess, I should be enraged that Alpha Zarek had been trying to locate me using ’other’ means.
But the reason behind it was too noble... too good... too tempting. I couldn’t help it, I nodded.
"Did he tell you about it?"
It took me a moment to realize that it was I that Dr Ava was talking to, and when I came back to, I smiled— not quite genuinely, and drawled; "He did. But we’ve not really spoken about it all yet. He only asked me to stay for three more days... and in exchange, he’ll ask you to perform the ritual."
"Oh."
I saw something akin to understanding flash in Dr Ava’s eyes before it quickly disappeared. She nodded. "You were planning to leave again?"
I didn’t about it. I didn’t hesitate. "Yes." Then with a lighter tone, I added. "I have a small family someplace else now. I didn’t even bring my daughter with me."
"How’s Sadie?"
Ava blinked up at me. "Sadie who?"
I frowned. "Sadie my friend. The blondie who used to care for Amara while I was hospitalized."
Something akin to recognition flashed across Ava’s features as she smiled thinly. "Oh, the girl?!" I nodded. "She’s fine. She’s probably down at the slaves’ quarters performing her duties."
The way Dr Ava said those words felt too cold. They sounded too detached, it made goosebumps spread across my skin.
What the hell happened to my Sadie?
However, I was just about to ask her about it when suddenly, the door to Alpha Zarek’s chamber creaked open and Alpha Zarek peeked out, his eyes glinting with mischief and a little bit of something else as he pointedly stared between Dr Ava and myself.
Ava visibly squirmed.
"Alpha." She muttered, bowing.
"Ladies, can you tone your voices down a notch?"
As soon as he asked that, my face lit up so badly and a blush so wild crept up my cheeks and ears. I ducked my head, my brain going over the fact that he may have probably heard everything we’ve talked about in the past minute.
One look at Ava and I realized that she was also thinking the same way as I was, the only difference between us was that she looked like she was about to melt in fear.
I coughed. "We’re done talking Alpha... I was just about to see you."
Alpha Zarek’s eyes left Ava to linger on my face for a minute too long. He drew back slightly, pushing the door even more so that there will be enough space for me to pass through.
He drawled; "And here I was, thinking that you were about to come to bed with me."
Ava’s eyes snapped up. The heat on my face flared.
"Alpha..."
"Zarek." He snapped in his sugary low baritone. "I’ve told you to call me Zarek... we’re a couple remember?"
Now, the blush on my face reflected on Ava’s. She looked like she’d just seen a ghost. Like she’d swallowed a lump that was impossible to swallow, but equally impossible to spit out.
Ignoring the smirk on Alpha Zarek’s face, I waved Ava a hurried goodbye and brushed past him into the room whilst holding my breath.
I didn’t hear what he said to her afterwards, and frankly, I didn’t want to. I was already too embarassed as it is and didn’t need to make myself a lot more uncomfortable by witnessing his craziness.
At least, that was what I thought until he slammed the door shut and strode into the room like the devil himself, smiling keenly as he regarded me intently.
"There’s only one bed, Dahlia, and we’d share it."
