The Alpha's Blind Fate-Chapter 400: Matchmaking Skills
ZINA
The heavens were sending Zina a united message in unisonβwhich was that no matter what she did and no matter how much worse things get, she must never cause Daemon the kind of pain that she just encountered in her visions. π³ππ²ππ πππ»πΌπ§π²π₯.πππ¦
Spluttering and gasping as she was forcefully pulled out of the vision, Seraph quickly patted her on the back as if that was relief the burning in her heart that had only intensified with the passing of time.
She didnβt understand why it hurt so much, but it hurt.
Eyes wide from awe and something more, she stared at the pregnant moon while she sprawled herself before the candles.
Her visions changed, and that reality only made her realize that Dawn was indeed onto something when she said that the most terrifying wasnβt the vision but the seer of the vision.
But Vinn knew that every change was evidence to some sort of reaction. And in this case, what had prompted Daemonβs reaction was her death. An event that tipped the scales, causing Daemon to defeat the Rowan who had in fact, defeated Daemon in Zinaβs vision.
But she realized one thingβthe fact that she was in front and center of everything. The first vision, she had been the cause of Daemonβs death having completely tipped over to the dark side.
In her latest vision though, she had chosen death instead of living a life where she was a puppet in a grand scheme. And Zina knew no doubt that the vision had manifested her current thoughts.
She was in fact, never averse to the thought of taking her life should it be possible to take down the deformed that way. She had doubts about the whole resurrection thing; but her vision just proved that she as not immune to death.
She could die.
But did she still want to die? Even after the bone rattling howl of his wolf still echoed in her mind? Did she dare to say that she couldnβt face him even after seeing the pain etched to his face?
She didnβt dare... she couldnβt dare even.
Tears clouded her eyes like a fog reminding her of the days when she had been blind, and the days that followed when she had met Daemon NorthSteed.
One could say theirs was a relationship that started with hate and morphed into love. Maybe that was exactly how it wasβbut Zina thought otherwise.
Theirs was never just any kind of relationship in the world defined by mere wordsβtheirs was a fated one.
Fated even before she met her first mate, fated before she world as she knew it changed into something terrifying and exciting at the same time.
"Theta...." Seraphβs breaking voice reached to her like a salve for a festering wound. It shook with pain and yet trembled from anger as well.
"Seraph," Zina said still staring at the moonlight like she it could offer her all the answers she searched for and still lacked.
"Do you suppose that thereβs a way I will escape from all of this unscathed?" Zina asked seemingly stuck in a trance, "Do you imagine that thereβs a happy ending waiting at the end of all of this? Do you imagine the Deformed will be permanently defeated, my husband will take me back without any question, and my life as I knew it will return on track as it was?"
"Itβs possible." Seraph gritted her voice filled with all the conviction that Zina lacked
She smiled, eyes still stuck on the moon. "Why is it that I donβt think so? How is it that all I see is a sad ending whether it is for me or for him? Why is there this pain in my heart?"
Seraph was gracious enough to remain silent in the face of Zinaβs voiced doubts. There was no answer in the world that could possibly fill the void in her heart.
Zina had thought they were playing a long game, and yet the end was already in sight.
"Tomorrow will be a blood moon," Zina declared taking in the white moon. If fate spiralled beyond her control, then that night might be the last night she would ever see a full white pregnant moon.
"You mean... a Lunar Eclipse? Is that what you saw in your visions Theta?"
Zina might as well not have heard the girls words to her as she droned on. "Tomorrow is the second day of the full moon. The night when the moon will be at its fullest and brightest. Do you know that this night the moon is not supposed to be usually as visible as we can see it?"
"Ah... I thought it strange. How is that we can see the first day of the moon so well?" Seraph said, following along with her dribbling thoughts.
Zina scoffed lightly. "I suppose this cave manor is not ordinary. It must have been built so itβs inhabitants will always recieve a full blast of the Moonβs Powers. Although it doesnβt matter... tomorrow night might be when it will all end."
"Can... can I ask that you stop sounding so depressing?" Seraph stuttered, the girl seemingly at loss for far better words to say.
"Do you remember the first day I met you?" Zina asked instead.
"Yes." The girl answered in a forced bright voice, "that night, I thought the moon goddess was visiting. You looked so supernatural...even now."
Zina laughed unable to help it. That was one thing she loved about the girl who served her for six years. While most people approached things of spirituality as fraud or with hesitance, Seraph embraced it all like it was the most natural thing.
Zina could confidently say that no one believed in her powers the same way Seraph did.
"I remember that night as well," Zina swallowed, "you said that washing the eyes of a Seer was seen as great blessing in your village."
Zina couldnβt see her, but she could already imagine the blush on the girlβs face as she muttered. "Itβs truly a thing of blessing."
"In that case I hope you will be blessed even more from now onwards. In the spirit of not saying anything too depressing, I shall find you a husband once we survive this ordeal."
"Theta!" Seraph squealed with a more natural light voice that caused Zina to giggle. "I... I shall always serve you. And... and I ask that you do not tease me!"
"Tease you?" Zina said with seriousness, "I would never dare joke with the matter of finding a husband for our beautiful Seraph. The bigger his position the better. Certainly not those stable boys and Epsilons that crush on your brown doe eyes."
"Now I see the that your truly tease me!" She squealed even further and Zina could imagine that she covered her eyes as she blushed from embarrassment.
"Letβs see... who will be fitting for you? Rest assured I know youβve high tastes so I shall not wrong you. What do you think of... Yaren NorthSeed?"
This time around Zina heard her footsteps as she brought herself directly in view of Zina. Cheeks flaming red, eyes narrowed, "This is not teasing anymore. This is torture! Whomever would want that grumpy man!"
Zina smirked at her, "You see what I am saying? You even reject the prestigious brother of the Alpha King. Such high taste, I must match it with excellent matchmaking skills."
Seraph dissolved into laughter while holding her belly. "But he is grumpy indeed!"
"Well... considering the both of you bicker back and forth, I am sure he feels that same way about you."
"Forget whether he is grumpy or not for a second... I fear the both of us have strayed away from the main point. Lord Yaren NorthSteed like you said is the prestigious brother of his majesty. How dare a servant like me have designs on him?"
"What nonsense," Zina spat with an eye roll, "anyone should be grateful to have our Seraph for a partner. Fine, since you do not like him I shall move on to the next candidateβwhat do you think of Caspian Vampage? A worthy match for sure?"
At this, Seraphβs face fell as though struck with thunder. "Seriously, Theta? I almost forgot how noble youβre so those dirty rumours must not have reached your ears." She huffed, turning her eyes away like speaking of the Packβs Enforcer irked her.
Zina played along, at least glad that she mad managed to drag Seraph from the fog of her depression hole.
"Dirty rumors?" She repeated, acting interested in what might just be a juicy rumor.
"You do not know? Lord Caspian Vampage is a rake. Through and through!"
It was Zinaβs turn to dissolve into laughter. "And what makes you think heβs a rake? Because he shoots women the eye?" She asked, wiggling her eyebrows mischievously.
"W...well," Seraph stuttered, "all the servants in the castle all have a crush on him so I suppose he must be a rake. Nothing good of a man who has managed to creep into the hearts of all the castleβs women in less than twenty-fours hours of being an Enforcer."
Zina hardly got the chance to refute the incredulous allegation against Caspian before a harsh knock sounded on the door.
"Miss Zina, Master Rowan seeks you." A voice announced. And for the first time, she noticed that the pain in her chest seemed to flare up even worse.
