The Alpha King's Nemesis-Chapter 206: Before a Climax ()
"From the look in your eyes, I am guessing you do not plan to wait for the month to be up." Lucas guessed, a knowing smirk on his lips.
Askel shrugged casually, lifting a hand to rest over his eyes. He grunted beneath his breath and then sat up on his bed.
"Why should I? Now that I know for sure how she feels about him...and how she feels about me, I do not want to give him the opportunity... how is he even deserving of it? She is mine...mine!" Askel asserted in a firm tone
"So, what do you plan to do?" Lucas asked Askel with a raised brow.
"Get my woman back...get my head in order with her by my side, put an end to this instability in my mind, suppress the beast...then go after the damned rogue killer myself. Put my domain back in order... and then love on my woman and make love to her as much as my heart desires." Askel said simply.
Lucas laughed quietly at the elaborate plan Askel communicated to him.
"That does sound like quite the solid plan, but Zariah seems to feel strongly about sticking to her decision, how are you going to push this without getting on her bad side?" Lucas asked Askel with a raised brow.
"I feel she convinces herself to forget me and what we have in my absence, but she can only hold it back for so long..."
"I need to make certain she can never forget my touch, my presence... I need to make certain she is constantly reminded of every single moment we have shared and what they meant to me... and to her also." Askel said.
"But how..." Askel murmured, he trailed off for a moment.
"I believe before you make up a plan, you should seek help... from those who know her best." Lucas offered a suggestion.
"The crimson wolves?" Askel asked Lucas.
Lucas nodded to confirm that Askel was right.
"At this point, it is clear they have the most influence over Alpha Zariah and rightly so, they are her family. We know they have nothing against you, so it would not be out of order to seek their help in setting things right." Lucas said thoughtfully.
"You are not wrong." Askel agreed, nodding slowly.
"But what could I tell them? That I am surely a better choice of a mate for Zariah than the other? I mean, Zariah is their Alpha, they would fully support her choice, whatever it may be, regardless of their personal convictions and rightly so." Askel said to Lucas.
"Yet, they have their own judgement, a judgement Zariah values greatly and would never be able to ignore. Though they have refused to show favouritism in this time and kept their distance despite being on palace grounds, just yesterday, they have offered me valuable information about the rogue deaths when we were most in need of it."
"It goes without saying that someone is deeply bothered by the rumors being spread about you, Askel. Otherwise, they would never have gotten involved in Royal Lycan affairs, especially when they have their hands full with the accords."
"I believe they already know, who is the better mate for their Alpha. They equally know, who it is that their Alpha truly desires. You only need to prove them right." Lucas reminded Askel.
"I did not know... that the crimson wolves had approached you." Askel said in surprise.
Lucas smiled slightly but nodded his head to confirm it.
"Their information source, whatever it is is astonishingly accurate. The oracle has also confirmed signs of demonic presence in the unclaimed lands...in a short time, we will be able to prove the rogue deaths were done by something out of the ordinary."
"Although, this does not provide us an answer to who the culprit is exactly, but it gives us our first tangible trail and efficiently clears your name from all accusations. Clearly, their interest lay in protecting you, Askel... now, why would the crimson wolves go out of their way to do that?" Lucas asked.
"Zari... she must have entrusted the task to them." Askel said, a small smile on his lips.
"I intended to present this report to you along with the oracle after making some final confirmations and I did not wish to upset you by bringing Zariah up while the beast was still in control... I am relieved to finally be able to inform you."
"I will have the rumors quelled in no time. Then we can go after the demon and whoever summons it." Lucas said to Askel.
Askel was quiet for a moment before he shook his head.
"Do not make any moves yet. Do not let the Ethereal Alphas or the council know of your findings and do not let it be known that you have a clue about the demonic presence."
"Someone is intentionally attempting to discredit me to the Ethereal Alphas and the people by exposing my condition and leaving me with the blame of the murders that I will be unable to defend against..." Askel said knowingly.
"Do you mean...an overthrow?" Lucas asked in a low tone.
"But you are the only royal blooded heir left. How could they hope to overthrow you?" Lucas asked in bafflement.
"There are three ways to overthrow an Alpha King, Lucas." Askel said to his second in command.
"By birthright...by unanimous vote of the Ethereal Alphas, and by a challenge..." Lucas whispered. 𝒇𝒓𝒆𝒆𝙬𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝒎
"The most solid overthrow would be a blend of all three factors. If the first is impossible, the other two must come to play to convince the entire realm..." Askel continued, leaving his words hanging for Lucas to fill in the blanks himself.
"The second is already in play, discrediting you with the rogue deaths... which means, the third will be in the game not long after." Lucas completed.
"A challenge will draw the enemy in the shadows out. I should play along then, it would be a pity to put an end to his game before it reaches the climax..." Askel said meaningfully.
