Chapter 176: Nothing I Can Do (Ch.176)

Common savage rogues had annihilated the strongest pack in existence and it was all because they had not been watchful enough...wary enough.

They had underestimated the rogues and the Crimson Moon paid the price for it. This time, Zariah would not make the same mistake.

"Also, have all sightings of the forsaken closely monitored. Not even a single one can be missed." Zariah added.

"I will send the word immediately." Darren accepted the order and strode out.

"Zari...is everything alright?" Nile asked worriedly, Zariah’s sudden yet urgent instructions rousing concern.

"No... nothing, just to be safe. There is no harm in keeping an eye out." Zariah replied dismissively.

Zariah knew if they looked closely enough, they would be able to discover something, some kind of link between Caedmon and the rogues.

And if not that, they would at least have enough information to be well prepared to face the rogues when the time came.

There was Caedmon Grey, there was the unknown king, there was the rogue army and finally, there was the forsaken.

These four factors had played the major parts in the destruction of the Crimson Moon, but Zariah would act first.

One after the other, she would get rid of each of them and she would begin from the most apparent threat and the closest... Caedmon Grey.

Whatever needed to be done to prevent the fate her pack had faced, Zariah would do... even if it required her life.

Zariah laid back down on the bed, pulling the covers over her, she turned on her side so her back was faced away from Nile and so the pained expression on her face and the hollow look in her eyes would escape his notice.

Zariah remained in that position until Nile took his leave and only then did she allow the tears fall, soaking up the sheets until she drifted off to sleep.

Zariah’s eyes fluttered open, her gaze moving over to the door just as she sensed an unfamiliar presence approaching.

The door knob was twisted and the door came open, a tip toeing Eloneth sneaked in quietly, keeping her steps as light as possible as she turned to push the door closed.

Zariah remained completely silent, making no indications that she was awake, she watched Eloneth struggle to close the door as quietly as she could.

Eloneth cringed when the wooden door still creaked quietly and made a light thud sound when she finally did close it.

Eloneth breathed a quiet sigh and then turned around, a yelp of surprise escaped the fairy when she found Zariah was wide awake and staring right at her with a questioning gaze.

"I...I apologize." Eloneth quickly regained her composure, lowering her head to a small bow of respect.

Zariah did not respond but only stared at Eloneth, waiting for the fairy to provide an answer that was actually of significance to her.

"Nile and Kristen headed to the Ethereal Palace, they have some matters to discuss with the rest. And Darren is busy with some reports he received, he has asked me to watch over you in the mean time." Eloneth explained her presence.

"Has he now?" Zariah asked with a scoff, knowing exactly what Darren was worried about and why he set eyes on her.

"You can go back to him and tell him I do not need to be babysitted, I am fine and will not take any rash decisions. I also do not wish for company as I would prefer to be alone." Zariah turned Eloneth down directly.

Eloneth winced visibly at Zariah’s words and it was only then it occurred to Zariah that her tone was rather harsh and unpleasant, most likely far from what the Fae princess was accustomed to.

Zariah did not feel remorseful even after realizing it, she still did not find the Fae kind likeable, not after all Queen Heveneth had done.

"I... I won’t bother you. I will just sit here and I won’t say anything to Darren, I promise. I am not here to monitor you and report back or anything." Eloneth quickly explained.

"You are Darren’s mate, you owe your loyalties to him and not me so I would rather expect you to be honest with him on all things at all times...my cousin values honesty the most, and he is easily hurt..."

"When Ren is hurt... I become very unlikeable." Zariah said pointedly.

Eloneth’s gaze turned guilty at Zariah’s indirect reprimand.

"I... I did not mean it in that way..." Eloneth began to explain again but Zariah cut her off.

"I know how you meant it, Eloneth." Zariah assured as she sat up on her bed.

"I appreciate the thoughtfulness but I do not require your company, Eloneth." Zariah stated.

Eloneth lowered her gaze, biting her lip and Zariah raised a single brow as she noticed Eloneth’s lips were trembling.

"Do not tell me you are about to cry." Zariah said in disbelief.

Sure enough, Eloneth glanced up at Zariah and her eyes were wide and already filled up with tears.

Zariah breathed a heavy sigh, pushing the covers of herself.

"Tell me why you truly are here, Eloneth. To confirm that I do not disapprove of your bond with Ren? Because if I did, I would not have saved you at all." Zariah made clear.

"But you were badly hurt in the process... between my mother and I. I am certain I am the last person you want to see with Ren."

" But I truly... sincerely want to be with my mate, Zariah. I will do anything... I will stay out of your sight and I will never cause any trouble."

" Darren has been nothing short of amazing in this short time, but there is still an irreconcilable distance between us and that is because Darren values your approval more than anything..." Eloneth said helplessly.

"The matters between you and Darren have to be resolved by you two. I do not believe there is anything I can do for you, Eloneth." Zariah replied.
