Chapter 163: Chapter 163: The Monster Is Here

Inside the animal clinic, Scott and the others stood around Liam, their faces etched with concern.

Deaton administered a shot to reverse the anesthesia. "He’ll wake up soon." He said grimly. "But he’s going to be in a lot of pain from the poison. I gave him some herbs to slow its spread, but it won’t hold for long. He doesn’t have much time—he’s just a normal human, after all."

Stiles asked. "How much time does he have?"

"Five or six hours, at most." Deaton replied.

Scott nodded. "That’s enough."

Allison looked at him. "Are you going to give him the Bite?"

"Yes." Scott said. "Those people came here for Mom and Deaton. Liam only got hurt because of us. So... I should save him."

Stiles snapped his fingers. "Wait! Allison—don’t you have that manticore poison ability? Can’t you use it to heal him or something?"

Allison gave him a look. "Stiles, I poison people. I don’t... un-poison them."

A few moments later, Liam began to stir. Then he started screaming in agony. Scott grabbed his arm and quickly began absorbing his pain. Dark veins spread along Scott’s arm as Liam’s screaming faded into confusion. He looked around, trying to remember where he was—then his eyes widened in panic.

"Calm down." Scott said gently.

Liam looked at him, then down at the darkened veins on Scott’s hand. "What are you doing?"

"I’m absorbing your pain." Scott explained. "Now, calm down and let’s talk."

"Am I still going to die?" Liam asked.

"Yes." Scott said bluntly. Then, before Liam could panic again, he continued. "But there is a way to save your life—by becoming like me."

"What do you mean?"

Scott didn’t answer with words. Instead, he let his eyes glow red, fur sprouting along his cheeks as his fangs lengthened.

Liam’s jaw dropped. "What... what are you?"

"I’m a werewolf." Scott said. "And the only way to save you is to make you one too. The guy that poisoned you is a... well, I don’t know exactly what he is, but he’s part manticore—you know, the lion with a scorpion tail from mythology. Even if we took you to a hospital, they wouldn’t be able to help."

Stiles chimed in. "You’ve got maybe five hours left, tops. If I were you, I’d choose fast."

Liam swallowed hard. "I don’t want to die. But I have IED (Intermittent Explosive Disorder). If I become a werewolf, I might end up killing people."

"Well, that’s a problem." Scott admitted. "But if I turn you into a werewolf, you won’t lose control—you’ll just have to learn to manage your anger. Don’t worry, we’ll help. That’s what a pack does."

"But don’t werewolves lose control during the full moon?"

Scott replied. "We don’t. Now, let me tell you what it means to be a werewolf, what a pack is, and explain the supernatural side of the world."

So, Scott and Stiles told Liam about werewolves and other supernatural creatures, the hunters, the supernatural threats they faced, and what it meant to be in a pack.

Liam looked at them with wide eyes. "Have you really killed people before?"

Stiles nodded. "Yeah, but only the ones who deserved it. We don’t hurt people unless we have no other choice. And don’t worry—we won’t force you to kill anyone."

Liam thought for a moment, then said. "Well, I don’t want to die, so I’m willing to join your pack and become like you. And although I’ll need some time to adapt to my new reality, I will help protect this town."

Scott nodded and gave him the bite, then said. "You’ll become like us tomorrow. For now, you need to call your parents and tell them you’re staying at a friend’s house because we need to make you sleep."

"Why?" Liam asked.

Scott said. "Because the second I let go of your hand, you’ll start feeling pain again."

Liam nodded, took out his phone, and called his mom. After the call, Deaton gave him another dose of anesthesia and put him to sleep.

Just then, Aiden and Rafael arrived at the clinic. After Stiles quickly explained what had happened, the two of them absorbed the powers of Frank-02 and Frank-03—and became Alphas.

Scott then opened a portal. Together, they transported Liam to the ranch and brought the bodies of Frank-02 and Frank-03 with them to be burned.

Then, Scott summoned the entire pack. They gathered in the living room of the pack house, waiting for news from Lydia.

---

Lydia’s POV

After flying away from the clinic, Lydia followed her banshee instincts, soaring in the direction where she’d heard the voice. She circled above town for several minutes until she reached the outskirts of Beacon Hills—and there it was.

A sleek, modern six-story corporate building stood in the distance. Above its entrance, a massive silver plaque read: Aeternum Biotechnologies.

Lydia knew instantly. This was the place. She could feel it—death clung to the building like a second skin.

She circled above it, watching as employees began to leave. Then she ordered her crows to keep watch on the building while she followed one of the employees.

Her body shifted midair, her feet transformed into talons. She stalked the employee, who was riding a motorcycle. Once he was far enough from the building and completely alone, Lydia dove. Her talons clamped onto his shoulders, paralyzing him instantly with her venom. He didn’t even scream—he couldn’t. Then she carried him into the sky.

Telepathically, she reached out. [Scott, I think I found the Benefactor. I caught one of their people.]

[We’re back at the ranch.] Scott responded. [Bring him here.]

[On my way.]

---

Not long after, Lydia landed outside the pack house. She shifted back to her human form and dragged the paralyzed man into the living room.

Stiles raised an eyebrow. "So, what did you find?"

Lydia dropped the man on the floor, then collapsed into a couch. "A modern, six-story building on the edge of town. The company’s called Aeternum Biotechnologies."

Victoria asked. "You think the Benefactor is there?"

"I do." Lydia said. "I felt death radiating from that building. And the voice I heard earlier—the one that called to me—it came from there."

Scott nodded. "We should read this guy’s memories first. Lydia, Deaton—one of you should do it. I’d rather not risk it. If I use my claws on him, he might end up dead like the others in the Hale vault."

"I’ll do it." Deaton volunteered.

He walked over to the man Lydia had caught, placed a hand on his head, and closed his eyes. After a long moment, he let out a breath and sat down.

"This man doesn’t know anything." Deaton said. "He’s completely unaware the supernatural even exists."

Stiles frowned. "So... the Benefactor isn’t in the building?"

"No." Deaton said firmly. "The Benefactor is definitely in that building. I saw Meredith Walker in this guy’s memories. I also saw people in tactical gear—like the ones who attacked us tonight. More importantly, I saw an acquaintance in his memories."

"A friend of yours?" Melissa asked.

Deaton said grimly. "No, she is not my friend. She is a geneticist and a druid. Her name is Sara Moore. But I heard from my sister that Sara became a dark druid a few years ago."

Erica said. "A Darach, again?"

Deaton nodded and said. "I knew her back when she wasn’t a Darach. I thought she was dead."

Derek asked. "Is she the Benefactor?"

Deaton replied. "I doubt that. I think the Benefactor is the owners of that company—a husband and wife named Elias Lumen, a geneticist, and Vivian Lumen, a biochemist. Sara is probably just working for them."

Melissa scowled. "I guess the three of them are responsible for creating those two freaks I fought tonight."

"I believe so." Deaton agreed. "As for this man." He pointed at the paralyzed employee. "He’s just a regular worker. The lower floors—first, second, and third—are operated like a standard pharmaceutical company. None of the employees on those levels know about the real purpose of the building."

Chris narrowed his eyes. "What about the other floors?"

"The fourth and above are restricted. He’s never even been allowed near them." Deaton replied. "But I think we can guess what’s going on up there."

Scott stepped toward the man. Though paralyzed by Lydia’s venom, the man was still conscious—and had heard everything. Without a word, Scott opened a shadow portal to a quiet alley somewhere in town. He compelled the man to forget everything he’d seen and heard, then dropped him off and returned to the ranch.

Facing the pack, Scott said. "Alright, everyone. It’s time to shut down this company and stop the people behind it. Lydia, take me there—I need to see the place to open a shadow portal so everyone can get there."

Lydia nodded. Outside, she wrapped her arms around Scott from behind. Her massive black wings extended, and the two of them soared into the night sky, heading straight toward Aeternum Biotechnologies.

Aeternum Biotechnologies

Morrigan and Gwyn returned to the company and went straight to the office of Vivian and Elias.

Elias glanced up with clear disappointment. "So... you didn’t catch Melissa McCall."

Morrigan said. "She’s too strong, sir. She toyed with Frank-02 and Frank-03 like a cat playing with mice. They didn’t stand a chance."

Gwyn added grimly. "And worse, sir... when the six Colectores entered the clinic, they saw swirling shadows in front of them. Then Scott McCall and some of his pack emerged from the darkness. The Colectores were taken down before they could even react."

"We believe it’s some kind of teleportation ability." Morrigan said. "Scott McCall wasn’t there when we arrived—but somehow he got there instantly."

Vivian’s eyes lit up with fascination. "Teleportation? That’s incredible. I’m getting more and more interested in this McCall pack."

Gwyn spoke up again. "Ma’am... I think we should leave this town."

Elias scoffed. "We’re not going anywhere until we get the McCall pack. What—are you and your pack planning to betray us now and run?"

"No, sir." Gwyn replied. "But I have to warn you—we are no match for them. If we stay, we’re all probably going to die."

Vivian dismissed his warning with a wave. "There’s a mountain ash barrier around this building. If we close it, no supernatural creature can enter—no matter how strong they are. We’ll be safe."

Elias nodded. "And as for the McCall pack, we can use wolfsbane. We’ve got plenty of yellow wolfsbane, and Sara has developed a whole arsenal of poisons. Let’s use everything we’ve got."

Vivian smirked. "Besides, don’t we have a banshee? Bring her here—I want to hear what she thinks."

Morrigan nodded and left to bring Meredith.

A few minutes later, she returned with Meredith in tow. The banshee was dazed, her fingers bleeding. Morrigan’s expression was unusually grim.

Gwyn looked at her, concerned. "What’s wrong, love?"

Morrigan shook her head. "It’s bad. I found Meredith like this... in a trance, writing on the walls of her room. With her own blood."

Vivian blinked. "Writing what?"

"She was scrawling the same phrase over and over: ’Death is coming.’"

Vivian marched over to Meredith and grabbed her shoulders. "Snap out of it." When Meredith didn’t respond, Vivian slapped her hard across the face. "Tell me what you feel, you crazy bitch!"

Meredith finally looked up at her. Her eyes were wide and empty. "Death. We’re all going to die. They’re coming for us."

Gwyn turned sharply. "Sir. Ma’am. We need to leave. Now. While we still can."

Vivian scoffed. "Relax. They don’t know where we are."

"You’re wrong." Meredith whispered. "They already know. Look outside..."

Everyone turned to the window, but all they saw were a few crows circling the building.

At that moment, Meredith began trembling with fear. "He’s here..." She whispered. "That monster is here."

Morrigan turned to her, frowning. "I only see crows outside. Meredith, who are you talking about? Who’s here?"

Meredith suddenly screamed and ran to the corner of the office, hugging her head in terror. She rocked back and forth, muttering over and over. "He’s here... the monster is here..."

Then she let out a high-pitched banshee wail that shattered the glass jars, vials, and screens in the office. Gwyn and Morrigan, both with supernatural hearing, staggered as blood trickled from their ears. Meredith collapsed, unconscious.

As they recovered from Meredith’s scream, Vivian opened her mouth to speak but stopped when she noticed Morrigan and Gwyn staring out the window, their expressions frozen.

Following their gaze, she squinted into the night sky and barely made out a winged figure floating in the darkness, holding another person.

Morrigan’s eyes glowed crimson as her enhanced vision locked onto the intruders. "Shit!" She hissed. "It’s Scott McCall. And... isn’t Lydia Martin supposed to be a banshee? Why does she have wings?! And why is her eyes glowing red?!"

Gwyn didn’t waste time. "That doesn’t matter, ma’am. Call Sara—now! Tell her to activate the mountain ash barrier!"

Outside, Scott and Lydia hovered, their glowing red eyes fixed on the sixth-floor window where Morrigan, Gwyn, Elias, and Vivian stood watching.

Scott smirked. "Finally found you bastards. Lydia, take us to the ground."
