Chapter 288: The accusation...

Selene POV

I sat in the nursery, cradling my newborn son against my chest. His tiny, delicate form nestled perfectly in my arms as he suckled, his tiny fingers gripping my shirt with surprising strength for someone so small. His sisters, Maeve and Vina, were gathered around, their eyes wide with wonder.

"He’s so tiny," Maeve whispered, her silver-blue eyes gleaming with amazement.

"Can I touch him, Mama?" Vina asked, her voice filled with awe. The older of the two, Vina always had a touch of confidence in her requests, but today, her voice was gentler, more tentative.

I smiled softly, nodding. "Of course, sweetheart. Just be gentle."

Vina reached out with a careful hand, her fingers grazing the soft cheek of the baby. A wide grin spread across her face. "He’s so soft! Like a little cloud."

Maeve giggled, her curiosity growing as she inched closer. "He’s beautiful," she murmured, her expression filled with awe. "I can’t believe he’s our brother."

Noah stood nearby, watching the scene with a warm smile on his face. His dark eyes softened as he gazed at our child, pride and love radiating from him. "He sure is something, isn’t he?" he said, his deep voice low and full of affection. He reached over and gently brushed a strand of hair from my face, his touch lingering for just a moment longer.

When the baby was done feeding, I carefully placed him in Noah’s arms. Noah accepted him with a look of awe and reverence as if he were holding something far more precious than any crown or kingdom. Maeve and Vina crowded around him, giggling and whispering to each other.

"Uncle Noah, can I hold him next?" Maeve asked eagerly, her little hands reaching up.

"Maybe when he’s a little bit bigger, okay?" Noah replied, chuckling softly. "He’s still really tiny, and we need to make sure he’s nice and safe."

Maeve pouted, but Vina, always the older and slightly more practical, nodded in agreement. "Noah’s right, Maeve. You wouldn’t want to hurt him by accident, would you?"

Maeve shook her head quickly. "No! I just want to hold him, that’s all."

Noah grinned, shifting the baby carefully in his arms so the girls could get a closer look. "How about this, then? You can help me bathe him later today. You’d like that, wouldn’t you?"

The girls’ eyes lit up with excitement. "Yes!" they both exclaimed at once.

Just then, the nursery door opened, and one of the girls’ Brenna stepped inside. "Girls, it’s time for your practice," she announced with a smile. "We’ve got a busy afternoon ahead."

Vina and Maeve groaned in unison, clearly reluctant to leave their new brother behind.

"Come on now, don’t make faces," Brenna chided gently. "You’ll get to see him again later."

"Bye, Mama, bye, Noah!" the girls called as they followed Brenna out of the nursery, leaving me and Noah alone with the baby.

For a brief moment, the room was peaceful, the sound of our son’s soft breathing filling the space. I leaned back, resting against the cushioned chair, my mind swirling with thoughts that had been haunting me since his birth.

"We need to name him soon," Noah murmured "I can’t believe we never had time to do that," he chuckled.

"Yeah!" I said distractingly but then I turned to him, my heart heavy with the weight of things I’d left unsaid. "Noah... about the other night. When you came to my room..."

Noah’s expression tightened slightly, though he tried to keep his focus on the baby in his arms. "What about it?"

"I couldn’t reach you through the mindlink," she began carefully, her tone soft but probing. "I remember trying. But it didn’t work. I had gone into labour and the maid’s bell wasn’t working either. I had no other choice but to reach out to Kragen And yet, you showed up with that weird look on your face. It was as if, you were suspecting me of something."

He sighed, his brow furrowing as he placed our son into the bassinet by his side. He rubbed a hand across his face, clearly struggling with what to say. "I... I had a feeling something was wrong," he said, his voice a little rough. "But I’m not going to lie, Selene. I thought you and Kragen were together. That you were with him for something... intimate."

I blinked, stunned by the bluntness of his words. "You thought I was with Kragen? Noah, why would you think that?"

He stood up, pacing the room in frustration. "Because he’s always around you, Selene! And I told you how I felt about him. I told you I didn’t trust him being so close to you, but you never listened. And then, that night... you couldn’t mindlink me, but he was there with you. It’s hard not to jump to conclusions."

My breath caught in my throat. I stared at him, my heart aching at the thought that he didn’t trust h me. "Noah, how could you think that? How could you think I would betray you like that?"

"It’s not about you betraying me," he said quickly, though his voice was strained with emotion. "It’s about the way he looks at you, Selene. The way he watches you when you’re not looking. There’s something about him that makes my blood boil. And I can’t shake the feeling that he wants more than just to be your friend."

I felt anger flare inside me, "Kragen has done nothing but protect me. He’s been there when I needed help. He has saved my life countless times Noah. How can you say he’s dangerous when all he’s done is look out for me?"

Noah’s eyes darkened, his jaw clenched. "But he kissed you, you told me so yourself and you don’t see it, Selene. You don’t see what I see."

"And what is that?" I demanded, my voice rising. "That I can’t be trusted to have friends? That I can’t be around someone who isn’t you without suspicion hanging over me?"

He ran a hand through his hair, his frustration boiling over. "It’s not about trust. It’s about him, Selene. You cannot be with a man who has tried to be intimate with you without repetition. He kissed you last time, who knows what he’ll do next."

"But you have done more than kissing, Noah," I fired back. "You’ve cheated on me before and yet here am I with your baby. The kiss was a mistake. I told you that."

Before Noah could respond, the door to the nursery burst open with a loud bang. Kragen strode in, his eyes were filled with urgency. "Selene," he said, his voice sharp and commanding. "I need to speak with you. Now."

Noah, already on edge, stepped forward, putting himself between Kragen me. "You can speak with her when I’m here," he growled. "Anything you have to say, you can say in front of me."

Kragen’s eyes flicked to Noah, and his jaw tightened. "This doesn’t concern you, Noah. Step aside." freēwēbnovel.com

I watched as the tension in the room rose to unbearable levels. My heart pounded in my chest, anxiety creeping up my spine. "Kragen, what’s going on?"

Kragen took a step closer, ignoring Noah’s protective stance. "I need to speak with you. Alone."

Noah’s face twisted with barely controlled anger. "I said No, she’s my wife and not yours. In the beginning, I was willing to let go of a lot of things but now you’re pissing me off. Can’t you see she’s a mother? Are you so fixated on loving a woman who is mated and married to another? Are you even a god?"

"Noah, please!" I begged trying to touch him but he shrugged me off, his eyes sparking with fury as he glared at Kragen.

"Whatever it is that you want to tell Selene, say it here in my presence and not elsewhere. We are mates, she’s my Luna and I love her so much. I won’t stand you trying to take her away from me."

"But that is not what I am doing," Kragen gazed at him with amusement dancing in his eyes. "If I wanted to take Selene away from you, you would never have met her in the beginning. So be nice and stay out of this. C’mon Selene," he indicated to me, reaching out to take my hand.

Noah, grabbed his outstretched arm, wedging himself between us. "Go, leave now!"

Without warning, Kragen’s patience snapped. In one swift motion, he reached out and shoved Noah backwards, his strength far more powerful than Noah had anticipated. Noah stumbled, catching himself before he could fall, but his expression was one of pure shock.

"Kragen!" I gasped, horrified by the sudden display of force. "What are you doing?"

Noah’s fury flared, and he took a threatening step toward Kragen. "Get out, now."

Kragen ignored him, his gaze locked on me. "This is important. You need to hear what I have to say."

My mind spun as I stared at both men feeling a surge of emotion—fear, confusion, and anger all crashing together inside me.

"Kragen, please..." I whispered, her voice shaking. "Not like this."

Kragen’s eyes softened slightly at the sound of my voice, but the urgency in his expression remained. "There’s no time, Selene. I have to speak to you, Now!"

Before anyone could say another word, the baby’s soft cry broke through the tension, pulling all of us back to reality.
