Chapter 283: Coordinated attacks...

Selene POV

As Kragen and I crossed the threshold of Moon Whisper Pack’s territory, my heart pounded with a mix of nervousness and anticipation. I wasn’t sure how Noah would react to seeing Kragen with me, especially considering his repeated warnings about not wanting Kragen anywhere near me. The two of them had never seen eye to eye, and bringing Kragen back with me wasn’t going to help that.

The packhouse loomed ahead, its familiar structure offering a sense of comfort and dread all at once. I had been gone for days, tangled in the mess of prophecy, truths, and secrets. I needed to explain everything to Noah. He deserved that much, and more than anyone, I knew he would understand—he had to. But first, we had to get past the initial shock.

As we approached, a few warriors glanced our way, their eyes narrowing as they spotted Kragen at my side. I braced myself, knowing that word of our arrival would spread fast.

Sure enough, when we stepped into the packhouse, Noah was already waiting for us in the main hall, arms crossed, his expression a mixture of surprise and something sharper—disapproval. His gaze flickered between me and Kragen, settling on the latter with a dark intensity.

"Selene." Noah’s voice was tight, but his focus remained on Kragen. "What is he doing here?"

I swallowed, feeling the tension rising. "Noah, we need to talk. It’s important."

His eyes finally moved to me, softening slightly, but his jaw remained clenched. "I’ve told you before, Selene. I don’t want him hanging around you. You know how I feel about this."

Kragen shifted beside me but said nothing. For once, I was grateful that he didn’t rise to the bait. This wasn’t the time for a confrontation. We needed Noah on our side, and I could already feel the distrust radiating from him.

"I know, Noah," I said quietly. "But this isn’t about that. We’re here because there’s something you need to know. Something bigger than any of us." I glanced at Kragen, who gave me a small nod of encouragement.

Noah raised an eyebrow, still sceptical, but he nodded slowly. "Alright. Let’s talk in my office."

We followed him down the hall, the silence between us thick with unspoken tension. I could feel Noah’s wariness with every step, but I was more focused on what needed to be said.

Once inside his office, Noah gestured for us to sit, but I remained standing, too restless to stay still. Kragen leaned against the wall, his arms folded across his chest, watching quietly. Noah took his seat behind the large oak desk, his gaze never leaving us.

"Alright, Selene," Noah said after a long pause, "what’s going on?"

I took a deep breath, steadying myself. "It’s about the prophecy, Noah. The one about me."

His expression tightened. "The prophecy? What does that have to do with him?" He nodded towards Kragen, his tone sharpening.

I hesitated for a moment, knowing this wasn’t going to be easy. "It’s complicated," I admitted. "But Kragen is involved—more than we realized. I’ve learned things, Noah. Things I didn’t know before. And you need to hear all of it."

Noah leaned back in his chair, his eyes narrowing in suspicion. "Go on."

I recounted everything—how I had been drawn to Kragen, not understanding why, and how we discovered that the prophecy was tied to me in ways we hadn’t expected. I told him about Kragen’s family, his father, and the truth about the Moon Goddess. As I spoke, Noah’s expression shifted from disbelief to confusion, and finally to concern.

"Selene, are you telling me..." he began, but trailed off, his brow furrowed.

"Yes," I said, nodding. "It’s all connected. The prophecy is about me—about what I have to do to protect everyone, including this pack. But it’s not just about me. It’s about Kragen too. His connection to the Moon Goddess... it complicates things."

Noah stood up abruptly, pacing behind his desk. "You’re saying Kragen’s family has ties to the Moon Goddess? That he’s somehow involved in all this?"

I glanced at Kragen, who gave a slight nod. "Yes," I said softly. "And that’s why he’s been with me. He’s trying to help me figure out how to break this prophecy before it’s too late."

Noah stopped in his tracks, turning to face me. "Too late for what?"

I swallowed, the weight of the truth settling heavily on my chest. "If we don’t figure this out, Noah, it could mean disaster. Not just for me, but for the pack—for all the packs."

He stared at me for a long moment, his face a mix of frustration and concern. "And you think Kragen is the answer? The one who can help you break this prophecy?"

I could hear the doubt in his voice, the same doubt I had struggled with for so long. But after everything I had learned, I knew we had no other choice. "Yes, Noah. I do."

The room fell silent, the tension thick between us. Noah’s gaze flickered back to Kragen, his jaw tightening. "I don’t like this, Selene. I don’t trust him."

"I know," I said softly. "But I trust him. And right now, that’s all we have."

Noah’s eyes softened as they met mine, and I could see the struggle in his expression. He wanted to protect me, but he also knew that I wasn’t a child. I had made my choice, and I needed him to understand that.

"Fine," Noah said after a long pause. "I’ll hear him out. But, Selene, if he does anything to hurt you—anything—I will not hesitate."

Kragen pushed off the wall, stepping forward. His voice was calm but firm. "I understand your concerns, Noah. I’m not here to cause trouble. I’m here to help Selene. That’s all."

Noah’s gaze flickered between us, and he finally sighed, nodding slowly. "Alright. Let’s hear the rest of it."

I felt a small sense of relief as the tension eased, but I knew this was just the beginning. There was still so much we didn’t understand, so many questions left unanswered. And time was running out.

But at least, for now, Noah was willing to listen. freёnovelkiss.com

And that was all we could hope for.

Kragen stood quietly by my side, his usual calm demeanour masking the tension that rippled between him and Noah. I could sense the unease between them, a silent battle of wills. But before we could continue, the door to Noah’s office burst open, and Reid, Noah’s Beta, rushed in, his face pale with urgency.

"Your Majesty!" Reid’s voice was tight with alarm as he hurried forward. "We have a serious situation."

Noah immediately straightened, his posture shifting from concerned Alpha to one of authority and command. "What is it, Reid?"

Reid glanced at me and Kragen before focusing on Noah, his breath still laboured from running to the office. "There have been several attacks on packs in the region—Alphas are losing control of their territories. And it’s not just one or two packs. It’s widespread. The worst part... most of the packs are going off the grid."

"What do you mean ’off the grid’?" Noah’s voice was sharp now, his focus intense.

Reid took a deep breath. "Communication lines have been cut. They’re completely isolated. No one’s been able to reach them—no mind-link, no phone calls, nothing. It’s as if their territories have been sealed off from the outside world."

A cold chill ran down my spine at his words. The attacks... it sounded eerily familiar. I exchanged a glance with Kragen, who had tensed beside me, his eyes narrowing in recognition.

"How many packs?" Noah demanded, his voice a mix of shock and anger.

"At least five, so far," Reid replied grimly. "And we suspect there could be more. The attacks are methodical—taking out communication first, then disabling power grids. The warriors who’ve managed to escape have reported that the attackers are rogue wolves, but they’re organized... too organized."

Kragen’s jaw tightened as he stepped forward. "It’s exactly what happened to Greyhound Pack."

Noah’s gaze snapped to Kragen, his eyes dark with suspicion. "Greyhound Pack? You’re telling me this has already happened there?"

"Yes," Kragen replied. "We were cut off completely. No communication, no power. The attackers retreated after causing the initial chaos, but they’ve left the pack vulnerable like they’re preparing for something bigger."

Noah’s face hardened as he processed this. "If they’re targeting Alphas and cutting off their ability to communicate... this could be a coordinated effort to destabilize the entire region."

The room fell silent for a moment, the gravity of the situation sinking in. I felt the weight of it pressing on my chest. Whoever was behind these attacks wasn’t just targeting individual packs—they were trying to tear down the very structure of the werewolf world, isolating the strongest leaders and leaving them defenceless.

"Noah," I said quietly, stepping forward. "This might be connected to what we were just discussing. The prophecy, Kragen’s family, everything... it’s all linked. These attacks... they could be part of something much larger."

Noah turned his gaze to me, his expression grim. "You think this is connected to the prophecy?"

I nodded. "It’s possible. We need to figure out who’s behind this before it’s too late."

Noah’s eyes flickered between me, Reid, and Kragen, and I could see the wheels turning in his mind as he weighed the options. Finally, he spoke.

"We need to act fast. Reid, I want every available warrior ready to defend Moon Whisper. And get a message out to the packs we can still reach—tell them to be on high alert."

Reid nodded quickly and left the office, his footsteps fading down the hall.

Noah looked back at me, his face set with determination. "Selene, if this is connected to the prophecy, we need to find answers fast."

I swallowed hard, knowing that this was only the beginning of the fight.
