Chapter 269: Perhaps, your parents were involved in something...

Selene POV

"Yes!" he said softly "It’s me. Are you alright? You look like you’ve just seen a ghost."

I managed a smile, then reached out for his face, cupping it "I’m not alright, Lucius," I sighed then leaned back on the bench letting him go. "I just had the strangest of dreams or maybe visions... I don’t even know," I sighed.

"I’ve been trying to get your attention for a few minutes now," he said softly his hand resting on my shoulder. "You looked like you were somewhere far away."

He came to sit next to me and we sat with each other, embracing the silence, not saying a word. After a while, Lucius broke it.

"This vision, what was it about?" he asked.

"My parents!" the name brought tears to my eyes "You know, back when I lost them and couldn’t go to their funeral because I was weak, I used to wish every night before I went to bed that I would see them one last time. Most nights, I’ll go to bed thinking about them, hoping that their image would see them for the last time but guess what..." a sob tore from my throat "I just did, Lucius. They were right here in front of me but I didn’t understand what was going on. I couldn’t."

I rubbed my eyes, trying to shake off the lingering remnants of the vision.

"I saw something else," I murmured, "My mother was pregnant... my dad was standing next to her and they were talking to someone an older woman..."

Lucius’s eyes widened slightly. "An old woman? Can you describe her? Maybe what she was wearing, something like that..."

I closed my eyes, trying to picture the woman but I couldn’t. "I’m sorry... I was so fixed on my parents that I didn’t have time to see what the woman wore. But they were speaking, but I couldn’t make sense of what they were saying. It was like... like they were speaking in a different language. And my mother... she was crying, with so much pain in her eyes."

Lucius frowned his gaze on me. "Do you think it was a memory? Or something else?"

"I don’t know," I admitted with confusion. "It felt like a memory, but... I couldn’t understand any of it. It felt wrong like it wasn’t supposed to be there."

Lucius offered me a hand. "You shouldn’t be out here alone, Selene. Whatever that vision was, we need to figure it out. But first, let’s get you back to the pack house."

I hesitate for a moment before taking his hand. As we walked back to the pack, I couldn’t stop thinking about how broken my mother had been the desperation that had been in my father’s eyes and also, the coldness I had seen in the old woman’s eyes too.

Something was wrong – something had always been wrong and now the universe was tired of feeling it, so it was beginning to slowly unravel.

"How did you know I was there?" I asked breaking the silence.

"There’s a trail that leads up to the mountain at the back of the children’s park, I was taking a hike – well sort of but to clear my head mainly. I saw you when I was heading back down."

We continued to the pack house in silence again. When we were almost there, I slowed my pace, my thoughts were swirling.

I wasn’t ready to face anyone yet – not after the sleepless night I’d just had and certainly not after the strange vision. I needed answers, but where would I even begin?

Lucius’s pace slowed too as he turned to me, his gaze was filled with concern. "You’re not alright, are you?" he asked softly watching me.

I shook my head, my voice barely above a whisper. "No... I’m not. It’s just that the vision had been so vivid... too real, Lucius. I can’t stop thinking about it."

He was silent for a moment considering my words. "There’s a lot about your past that’s still hidden, Selene. Visions like this don’t just come out of nowhere. They might be trying to show you something. Maybe a piece of the puzzle that you need to uncover.

I sighed, agreeing with him. "But what am I supposed to do with this? I don’t even know where to begin. My mother... my father... they’re both gone. I can’t just ask them what happened. Why they were crying in that vision."

"Well," his gaze softened "There are other ways to find answers. People who might know more than they’re letting on."

I looked at him, searching his face for any sign of doubt, but there was none. His confidence in me, in my ability to figure this out, was strange to me. Lucius always wants to solve my problem.

I exhaled sharply, trying to calm the storm inside me. "I need to figure this out, but I don’t even know where to start."

"Start with what you do know," he said gently. "Perhaps, your parents were involved in something. Something that required secrecy. Maybe there’s someone in the pack who can help you understand the past. Someone who knew your family."

I thought for a moment. "Our pack was merged with Xavier’s after the death of my parents and I’m pretty sure that most of the people who knew them may not know beyond basic information. My parent had no social skills. But there’s only one person I can think of who knew my parents well enough... my aunt, Helena. She’s my father’s sister and was close to them when I was a child, but she disappeared shortly after they died – or I didn’t hear from her again."

"Then we find her," Lucius said firmly "She would still be alive, I’m sure and maybe she might tell you the truth that you’re looking for."

The determination in his voice stirred something inside me – a flicker of hope. But before I could say more, a voice interrupted our conversation.

"Selene, Lucius," came a low but familiar voice behind us.
