Chapter 262: Glad to be home...

Selene POV

I waited until his car rounded the corner before I turned and approached the front door. The familiar scent of pine and earth surrounded me, grounding me... I paused at the front door, my hand hovering over the handle, trying to steady my nerves. Then, with a deep breath, I pushed the door open.

Inside, I was greeted by the warmth of home, the soft glow of the fireplace and the sound of my daughters’ laughter drifting from the living room. Their nannies stood at one corner, watching them with a soft smile. The sight of them – happy, safe and unaware of the chaos swirling outside their world – brought tears to my eyes.

I had thought that I’d be able to live without them. To leave this world and leave them in the hands of their father or another woman if I’m lucky but as I stared at them now, I didn’t think that I’d be able to.

So, I would stay and fight... I must go against nature again to keep what I hold dear to my heart.

Maeve was the first person who spotted me. "Mom!" she exclaimed, rushing forward to wrap her arms around my waist. Vina quickly followed, their small hands clinging to me as if they would never let go.

I knelt on the ground, my bulging stomach serving as a pillow for them and hugged them tightly, savouring the moment. "I missed you both so much," I whispered kissing the tops of their heads. I’m sorry I was gone for so long,".

Vina drew back and looked at my stomach, her brows crouching with confusion. "Dad said you were going to prepare to have the baby. Why is he still in your stomach? Did he get angry and refuse to come out?"

I laughed ruffling her curls. "Not angry, he’s just not ready to come to the world yet but he will soon enough. Are you excited to be a sister?"

"Of course, Mom," Maeve eyed me as if I shouldn’t have asked the question. "I can’t wait to take care of the baby when you’re tired. Bath him, feed him, change him... I’ve been practising a lot," she said, pointing to her baby in a pram close to her nanny. "I have a lot of experience. Although I wish it’d be two babies so I and Vina can have one each. I don’t know how we’d be able to share just one baby,".

I laughed, loving her analytics.

Maybe the moon goddess taking away their clairvoyance was for the best. They talked and sounded like children their age. Unlike before when they were too serious to play with anyone and would look down their noses to children their age.

"Where is your dad?" I asked, rising with a groan.

"He’s inside talking with Beta Lucius and Alpha Kurtis," Vina furnished.

"C’mon on then, let’s go, surprise Daddy,".

I walked through the entrance of the pack house, my daughter’s tiny hands clasped tightly in mine. The guards at the door nodded respectfully as we passed, their eyes widening slightly in surprise at my sudden appearance.

The familiar scent of the pack house hit me, filling me with a sense of bittersweet nostalgia. I had been away longer than I had intended and every corner of this place was filled with memories.

As I made my way down the corridor, I heard the unmistakable sound of raised voices coming from the main hall. My brows furrowed as I approached and peered inside to find Noah, Kurtis and Lucius huddled together in a heated argument.

Noah’s normally calm demeanour was strained, his voice rising as he gestured wildly. Lucius, ever the voice of reason, looked exasperated, while Kurtis seemed on the brink of losing his patience entirely. An amused smile settled on my lips at the sight. For men who held powerful titles, they often bickered like schoolboys.

"This is what they’ve been doing for three days now," Vina sighed. "If they’re not arguing, they’re threatening each other. Yesterday, Dad told Alpha Kurtis that he would strip him of his title as an Alpha, Alpha Kurtis told him to go ahead. I saw them later at night eating and smiling at each other,".

I laughed "That’s how men are. They never bear a grudge. C’mon, let’s go break them up,".

I moved forward until I was in the hall with them. Then I cleared my throat, cutting through their argument and drawing their attention. The three men turned simultaneously, their expressions shifting from frustration to disbelief. They stood frozen, staring at me as if I were a ghost, unable to process my sudden return.

It was Lucius who recovered first. He rushed towards me; his eyes wide with relief as he pulled me into a tight hug. "Selene, thank the heavens you’re alright," he whispered, his voice trembling slightly. "We thought we had lost you,". free𝑤ebnovel.com

Kurtis was next. He stepped forward, his eyes scanning me up and down as if to ensure I was truly there and unscathed. "Are you hurt?" he asked, concern lacing his voice. "We’ve been searching everywhere -,".

I gave him a reassuring smile. "I’m fine, Kurtis. I promise,".

Finally, it was Noah’s turn. He stood a few feet away, his body stiff with tension and his eyes filled with doubt. He seemed to be struggling to believe that I was standing in front of him. So, I sighed softly, sensing his hesitation.

"It’s me, Noah," I said gently. "Not some trick or illusion and not a fox,".

Noah came closer, his gaze fixed on my neck as he searched for his mark. When his eyes found it, his breath hitched and he pulled me into his arms, holding me as if he would never let go. Tears streamed down his cheeks as he buried his face in my shoulders, his body shaking with sobs.

I held him tightly, feeling his fear and relief through our mate bond. I knew how much he had been through and how my absence only added to his burdens. After a while, his sobs quieted, and he pulled back, wiping his eyes with the back of his hand.

"I’m so glad you’re home," he whispered, his voice raw with emotion.

I nodded, blinking back on my tears. "I’m glad to be home too,".
