Tangled Hearts - The Alpha's Baby Mama-Chapter 252: That mistake had killed my father...
Chapter 252: That mistake had killed my father...
I and Emilia stood in stunned silence, trying to process what had just happened. Emilia was the first to break, a sob escaping her as she sank to the floor.
"This is all my fault," she whispered, echoing Lucius’s earlier words. "If I hadn’t ... if we hadn’t...".
I sighed and knelt beside her, placing a comforting hand on her shoulders. "No, Emilia. This isn’t your fault, or Lucius’s. We were all deceived by the spell used by Jared and Jade. Blaming ourselves won’t help Selene or the pack.
As Emilia’s sobs subsided, I helped her to her feet. "Come on," I said gently "It’s not a crime to be in love and to express your love. These few months, knowing that I have finally found a mate, something I didn’t think was possible... I’ve been at my happiest. Although, there’s still some resistance from Lucius but we’re perfect together. We cannot hide what we feel for each other,". freёnovelkiss.com
"But you heard what he said!" Emilia sighed "He practically rejected us, he wants nothing to do with us again,".
"He said something similar to that at the abandoned warehouse yesterday. Something about you just being his mate but ..." I gave her a known look and she giggled. "You saw how ravenous he was of us yesterday. He couldn’t have enough of you... and try as he might... I saw him struggling with me too but the bond was still there. He’ll come around eventually. He’s just angry and to say the truth, I loved seeing him in that state,".
"Really?" Emilia looked up at me, surprised. "Why?"
"Lucius is a fucking perfectionist!" I huffed. "When I first met him... I used to think I had problems with things being out of place but Lucius’s is worst. He can wake up in the middle of the night, just to make sure than one of the pack soldiers has the correct pair of boots. He’s always been like that and things have been working that way for him for the longest time. So, he’s not used to making mistakes or being a failure,".
"Tell me about it!" Emilia sighed "The first time we got together, he was up the next morning cleaning up the room and was so worried about me because..." she trailed off as a wistful smile settled on her face. "He’s a good person, Kurtis. He was the first man to treat me like I was something fragile that was way before I knew we were mates. He kept it suppressed... can you imagine?"
"Same with mine!" I laughed "I thought it was a trick and coupled with the fact that he didn’t like me back then. According to him, I led Alpha Xavier astray. There was a time when Xavier was trying to win Luna Selene back and I was helping him. Lucius used to wear his displeasure like a sleeve. The day I felt the first tug was during the Dark moon phase. We were paired to fight... and my wolf told me he was the second person in our Triad bond. Made perfect sense, since we were enemies,".
"Do you think, he’d eventually accept us?" Emilia asked quietly, sinking deeper into my arms.
"I don’t know!" I sighed "To Lucius, this is a taboo. A triad bond only happens with Twins or Triplets not with two different men of different blood. He doesn’t want to share you with me but he cannot fight it off for long, worst case scenario, he would deny us and leave us. Knowing Lucius, he might do just that and die in the pain rather than admit it... he can be proud..." I rolled my eyes.
"I hope he doesn’t," Emilia sighed "My wolf loves him and yours too...".
I nodded, hoping things would work out for the better. Emilia reached for my lips and we locked onto each other in a kiss. When we came up for air, she giggled and stared at me "This is one of the reasons he hates us, Kurtis... we know how to be calm even in the most threatening situations,".
I nodded, with a smile. "Let’s go meet with the King," I announced. "We need to tell him about Lucius. As much as I hate to admit it, he’s too emotionally compromised right now. He could be walking into a trap,".
Together, we made our way back to Noah’s bedroom. He looked visibly calmed somewhat, though the air around him still crackled with suppressed energy. I moved closer to him and explained the situation with Lucius, his expression darkened further.
"So now we have another delinquent to deal with," he growled, pinching the bridge of his nose. "This just keeps getting better and better,".
"Your Majesty!" I began cautiously. "He’s not a delinquent. He just feels he failed you and just so you know, Lucius loves Selene so much... like I told you before. He’d give up his life for her without thinking about it. He’s one of the best warriors I’ve seen in this life time but in his current state, he’s as much a liability as an asset,".
Noah nodded with a grim expression. "You’re right! I shouldn’t have reacted the way I did. It must have triggered him too. Anyways, we need to bring him back before he does something rash. Kurtis, I want you to take a small team and track Lucius down. Bring him back, by force if necessary,".
I bowed my head in acknowledgment. "And what of Jared and Jade, Your Majesty?"
"You’ll continue the search, but carefully," he replied. "They’ve proven they’re more cunning than we gave them credit for. We can’t afford any more mistakes. Selene’s life is more at stake than ever before,".
As I turned to leave, Noah’s voice stopped me. "And Kurtis? When you find Lucius, remind him that I am grateful to him for everything and that I am sorry,".
I nodded, and left to assemble the team, asking Emilia to go back to our room until I send her further instructions. Lucius was right... I couldn’t go with her this time around. She was too much distraction and this mate bond thing was still new to me.. so, I didn’t have the best discipline over it.
I couldn’t also shake the memory of the pain and guilt I had seen in Lucius’s eyes. I understood those feelings all too well – the weight of responsibility, the fear of failure but I also knew that those emotions could drive one to make dangerous and potentially fatal mistakes... just like I did years ago.
That mistake had killed my father!
