Selene POV

The room spun for a few minutes as I dug my hands into Noah’s arms until my knuckles turned white.

Nora was dressed in a red leather dress that accentuated all the curves on her body matching perfectly with the dark lipstick she had on. Her face was bare except for the lipstick on her lips and her lips curved into a smile that reached her lips as she reached us.

"Father!" Noah broke the tension and snapped me back to reality "What is the meaning of this? What is Noah doing here and Brooke?"

"Here is not the best time to talk, Noah," The Grand Lycan said without any emotion on his face "I’ll explain everything to you later...".

"I will not wait a moment more for your explanation Father. If you cannot give me what I want, you might as well leave the party with them. You cannot show up here with people who are supposed to be facing the consequences of their actions. Nora is supposed to be in jail and Brooke was banished,".

"They got the Grand Lycan pardon," The Grand Lycan said finally, a soft sigh escaping his lips "Nora’s husband won’t let me be, besides she’s been ill for a while now and her doctor recommended that she is released. Don’t worry, she’d still go through the normal court proceedings and if found guilty, she’d be incarcerated again. Plus..." he paused and drew closer to Noah.

"The central elections are around the corner, if the people know that you put your sister in jail, it’ll raise a lot of eyebrows and make these Lycans sceptical about taking your side. In this part of the world and for the Leader of the Central Elections, people will align more with you when they know you can keep them safe,".

"You mean when I can turn a blind eye to their corruption," Noah said bitterly "I am not you, Father. I intend to make an impact in our world and that’s by weeding out every corrupt Lycan and anyone in power. We can no longer keep making excuses for these people. If no one can agree with my...".

"We’ve held that position for nearly a century, Noah and you’ll not be different. Being the Leader of the Central Elections will give you more power, open the pack to more opportunities and give you a direct link with the human world,".

"But you were a Central Leader father and your rulership was the worst ever recorded but in Moon Whisper and the Kingdoms under you. Have you forgotten how broke we were, the number of debts that were collected and had no hope of ever getting repaid? Guess who turned everything around? Selene... Selene was the only economic adviser I had that gave practical solutions to what we were going through. So, please... being a Central Leader is nothing special,".

Fine!" The Grand Lycan sighed "I don’t understand this your sudden campaign against corruption but would you rather leave it in the hands of a corrupt Lycan King? Everyone will suffer if a corrupt person is up there just like the Alpha Packs. You had to reinstate your nephew as the Coalition leader because of how the other Alpha was taking advantage of his position... that is what always happens when a corrupt person rules,".

"Shit!" Noah murmured in frustration reaching for my hand "This conversation is not over, Father and as for you two," he turned to Nora and Brooke who had been silent the entire conversation, "Don’t you dare leave my sight and report to my office tomorrow,".

"Yes, your majesty!" both of them bowed gracefully.

Hissing, Noah reached for my hand and together we walked out of the hall. As soon as we left the hall, I let out the breath that I’d been holding as my body trembled. Noah gathered me in his arms and held me gently until the worst of the tremors passed before he led me to the car.

We sat in silence for a few minutes before Reid showed up.

"Your majesty," he greeted when he arrived. "I’m sorry but the Grand Lycan...".

"It’s fine!" Noah interrupted him "I need you to meet with the Justice Chief and request for restriction bracelets and anklets with 24/7 surveillance. My father pardoned my sister and Brooke using the Grand Lycan pardon and the only way to make sure that they’re controlled is the restriction bracelets. It’ll prevent them from turning into their wolves and can only be opened by me," he paused.

"It’s either to go back to serving their punishments or use the tools and I’d also want a daily report on their activities submitted at a set time each day. There will be two strikes... for defaulting. If they fail both strikes, they’ll go back to serving their punishments,".

"Okay Your Majesty, I’ll inform the Justice Chief but it’ll take a while before he gets all of these done and...".

"Tell whoever is involved that I need it to be done by the end of today and before midnight. The verdict needs to be passed by tomorrow. I don’t care how it’s done but let all the legalities be settled before tomorrow. It’s a matter of urgency,".

Reid nodded and left immediately.

Noah sighed and dialled Kurtis’s number. A few minutes later, Kurtis responded in his usual gruff manner.

"Your majesty!".

"I’m sorry for calling at such short notice but something urgent came up and I hope you can grant my request. I need you to send me at least 7 of your most trusted soldiers. I would need them to protect Selene,".

There was a pause on the other end of the phone before Kurtis’s voice came on with a sigh. "You know I’m still trying to set up the pack and I’ll need all the help I can get. I don’t know if I’d be able to grant your request, your majesty. Why don’t you use, soldiers from your pack? I’m sure they’ll be more useful than any of mine,".

"I know that Kurtis but my father just pardoned Nora and Brooke. They’re roaming Moon Whisper as I speak to you free and I don’t want to take chances with...".

"I’ll send them," Kurtis didn’t allow him to finish speaking. They’ll be on their way to Moon Whisper before noon of tomorrow, I promise and I’ll send the best,".

"Thank you so much!" Noah sighed.

When the call ended, he leaned his head at the back of the car seat, taking in deep breaths. I could see he was worried although he was trying to hide it but I could tell. Quietly, I reached for his hands and covered them with mine, giving him a reassuring smile.

"Everything will be fine. I’ll be careful and Kurtis will send the soldiers too, as soon as possible. Don’t worry, nothing will happen, okay?"

"I wish I could be that trusting of them, Selene. My sister is evil and there’s no way she wouldn’t want to revenge for everything. Even with the restriction bracelets... she can still do whatever she wants to but at least we can keep an eye on her and know where she’ll be at all times. I just want to make sure you and the baby is fine,".

"And we’ll be fine, Noah!" I cupped his face "Trust me on this one. Starting from today, I’ll withdraw the girls from school and have them learn from the house. I will either do that or I’ll get a teacher who will handle that for me. Anything that will give her an edge over us, we have to either do away with it or keep it close,".

"Good idea," Noah nodded "With the soldiers, Kurtis will send, they’ll keep you safe for when you need to move around. I’ll take my meetings during the day and will make sure that the location is known only to me. Because there’s no telling what Nora is capable of doing. I’d make sure she doesn’t use me as bait to get to you too,".

"That sounds like a plan and...".

Someone rapped on the window of where I was sitting making me scream with fright. We had been so wrapped in our conversation that we didn’t see anyone approach us. When we turned to check, it was Nora.

My heart began to pound wildly in my chest and Noah wound down the glass to talk to her.

"What do you want?" he asked as soon as he wound the glass down.

"Don’t be like this, Noah!" she sighed "I am your sister and you know more than anyone that I love you. I’m sorry for everything okay and I hope you can forgive me. All I want is to get a second chance to...".

"Forgive you, Nora?" Noah scoffed "You tried to kill my wife or have you forgotten all about that? You poisoned the queen knowing that she was carrying my baby... you had the guts to poison her and you’re asking for my forgiveness? Do you think you’re in a position to ask for that? With everything you’ve done?"

"I know!" she said lowering her gaze, her hands primed in front of her.

When she lifted her face, there was a smug look on her face as she stared at Noah. That was all the indication I needed to know she was far from repenting.

"One of us will die," She said softly, a smile still on her face "And I know it’ll not be me!".
