Tangled Hearts - The Alpha's Baby Mama-Chapter 226: The ’Fated’ mate bond is a ruse...
Chapter 226: The ’Fated’ mate bond is a ruse...
The ’FATED’ mate bond was a ruse... nothing but it. If anything, I was going to advocate for not getting deceived that you must end up with the first scent you pick after getting your wolf.
As I sat across Xavier, I couldn’t stop thinking how there was I time I thought no other man would love me other than him. I knew everything he was doing to me, the torture I had to go through every day and how I had held on to him... in all those years... I never thought about leaving... it wasn’t even an option for me.
But here I was, 5 years afterwards and I was glad I did. The only change that truly happened with him was he stopped looking at me with a glare but nothing changed. Xavier was still the same entitled piece of shit that he was.
"You wanted to see me?" I broke the silence and the staring contest, looking beyond his head to see the clouds. "Why?"
"Selene!" he started "I’m sorry...For what I said earlier and for everything. I realized that in my bid to score points with you, I made a lot of mistakes and put the lives of the girls in harm’s way and I’m truly sorry. If there’s any way I can...".
"I’m sure you didn’t bring me here to talk about that, Xavier," I interrupted him with a cold gaze "We’re already done with that conversation and we concluded that I can’t let you be around the girls anymore. When they’re older, if they’re so passionate about finding their father, then they’ll come to you but for now, it’s best you go back to living the carefree way you’ve always wanted and taking another wife might help too,".
"You made that decision without considering me, Selene," he sighed looking at me with pleading eyes. "What kind of father would I be if I have to watch from afar while another man takes care of my children? That’s the highest level of irresponsibility that I can ever think of. So, please... I beg you, give me another chance to make it up to you and...".
"There’s nothing to make up for," I fired back "I know you’ve always entertained this thought that I was going to come back to you, somehow. That since we are fated mate, we’re bound to end up together but that’s not true, Xavier. I’d rather die than end up with you anymore. I love Noah, much more than I thought I loved you. So...".
Pain flashed through his eyes as he looked away from me for a second. "You don’t mean that Selene. You’re only saying that to hurt me and I don’t see how my uncle is any better than me. He cheated on you too!" he retorted.
"And you think I left you because you were only cheating?" I laughed. "I don’t have all day, Xavier. Please tell me the real reason you wanted an audience with me,".
He stared at me for a few minutes, sighed and started speaking. "Can you speak to the King on behalf of me and my dad? He has refused to grant us an audience. It’s regarding my mother, if there any way he could have her removed from the prison and give her home arrest instead? Staying there would only worsen things. My dad had promised to have her in check and take responsibility for everything that happened and what will also happen,".
I laughed "Are you done?" fɾeewebnoveℓ.co๓
He nodded looking at me with confusion.
"You’re so stupid, Xavier... both you and your father. You think you can use me as a pawn to get across to Noah and just so you know, I won’t be convincing Noah about anything else but to make sure she rots in jail. The only reason she’d be released is if of course she’s found innocent but else that, forget about it,".
"If this is because she took the girls. She was not in the right state of mind and...".
"Yet she killed my parents and murdered countless people!" I yelled silencing him. "Your mother doesn’t deserve to exist among people. Where she is, is befitting her. You know I wanted to understand and see reasons why she must have tried to take the girls, because the Grand Lycan contributed to it but she poisoned me in return,".
"Poisoned you?" Xavier’s eyes flashed with disbelief as he stared at me. "How is that even possible? She’s behind bars, there’s no way she could have done that,".
"I knew that is exactly what you were going to say and it’s fine. I don’t blame you, she’s your mother but her charges just went up a notch. She tried to harm the Queen of Moon Whisper and the future heir of this great pack. Do you think if your uncle was trying to have her released before that he would now? Besides, she said for herself that she’ll make sure she kills me once she gets out alive... you think she wouldn’t do it,".
"She’s not in the right state of mind," Xavier said eventually. "She’s sick, only my father knows how to have her tamed,".
"Then he could go join her in there!" Noah’s voice boomed behind us. Xavier rose to his feet immediately bowing to his uncle.
Noah ignored him, stopping first to place a kiss on my forehead as he draped a protective hand around my shoulders before turning to Xavier whose head was still bowed in reverence. Noah chuckled went up to him and raised his head.
"This is unlike you, Xavier," Noah commented "In the past, you didn’t bother addressing me with my title or trying to be extra respectful but now you’re bowing. Very funny," he chuckled. "Anyways, I’m in such a great mood today so I’ll let a lot of things go. But I need you to go back to your father and tell him that I won’t be releasing your sister until she’s proven innocent. She’s guilty, plus given the level of crime she committed it would be unfair to have her under house arrest,".
"Your Majesty!" Xavier started to say but was silenced by Noah.
"I know her more than you do, Xavier. I know she had to put up with a lot of emotional stress, especially from our father but I was there too. You don’t want to know how much he controlled my life. How we couldn’t do anything without his approval. How he’d look down his nose at all the efforts I put in and call it stupid. But yet, I turned out just well. It’s not the same for anyone but we cannot keep making excuses for Nora. She’ll need to face the consequences of her action, regardless of who she is,".
"Can we at least have access to her?" Xavier murmured. "My dad has not been himself since she was taken to prison. If there’s any way for him to see her. I don’t mind if there’s no opportunity for me,".
"So, he could go there and give her things to make her escape then make it look like she did it all herself?" Noah retorted. "Listen, I’m very familiar with the antics of your parents. They’ve done it severally and to several people, so, I’m sorry but I cannot take such chances. Your mother will leave the maximum holding facility only when she’s proven innocent and your father will have to wait to see her on the day of her hearing,".
"Your majesty, please," Xavier pleaded.
"I’m sorry, Xav," Noah sighed "You’re my favourite nephew, even until now but I have to refuse. Your mother tried to kill my wife and my baby. That alone is a punishable crime by death but we won’t be adding it yet. Depending on what the outcome is, we’ll hope that it’ll be enough punishment, else we’ll use that, so relay this to you father and...".
Noah paused, his eyes taking on a cold glint "I don’t want anyone showing up to beg me again regarding this issue. My ears are beginning to bleed out with the constant pleas. So, let’s all do ourselves a favour and mind our businesses. Now, if you’d excuse us," Noah reached for my hand gently pulling me from the chair.
"I and the Luna have a date tonight, also, I haven’t properly thanked you for giving me this gift. If you had not been a fool and allowed yourself to be convinced about some curse, I would never know how beautiful love is. So, you have my deepest gratitude,".
Then he turned to me and placed a kiss on my lips, my body curled with pleasure at his touch as I rounded his neck with my hand, deepening the kiss. After a while, we broke off, to see that Xavier was still standing there, head bowed, hands tucked humbly behind his back.
"Why are you still here," Noah asked perplexed. "You can go!"
"There’s another thing I need to ask you, your majesty," he raised his head "It’s regarding our coalition,".
