Taming the Hybrid Mate: Desired by Five Alphas-Chapter 231: They are finally back together
Andria’s POV
"Let’s watch this movie, it’s very captivating," Becca said, trying to divert the subject.
"Becca, that’s not what we are saying here. We are saying that you have to sort things with Arlo, because it’s beginning to become a problem," Allison cut in.
"What!!!" Becca yelled, "Can’t you see that the topic makes me uncomfortable whenever you bring it up?"
"Becca, we don’t mean to make you feel bad or uneasy, but this thing between you two is getting out of hand, and we know that you are hurting silently.
What kind of friends will we be if we don’t try to help you find a solution to your problem?" I said, in a calm tone, trying to pacify her.
"It’s not helping. Whenever you call his name, it hurts more. Can I just watch this movie in peace and try to forget whatever happened today?... Ari, Allison, I’m fine without this subject, please," she pleaded.
We kept quiet, not trying to probe. Allison stood up immediately, "I want to go back to my dormitory, I don’t like the air here, it suddenly grew tense, so I just want to leave you both."
"Allison, please stay," Becca pleaded. "I see you both just want to help, and I’m being too difficult...but it hurts to keep talking, and it just seems as if you never said a thing, not until there’s a problem."
"Although I don’t understand what you just said, it’s okay. Maybe I would spend the night with you both.
But you have to tell us what’s going on so that we can find a way to help you," Allison persuaded.
"Ok, I would," Becca swallowed. "How do I even start?" she said, clearing her throat.
"Start anyhow and anywhere. But say exactly the truth, so that we would know how to solve this whole mess," I urged her softly.
She looked like she was struggling with the narration, and I was tempted to change the topic till she was ready. But I have ignored her problem with Arlo for so long.
A single tear dropped from her eyes. "Maybe I was too demanding. I wanted Arlo more masculine, more responsible looking, less loquacious...you know," she started.
"But you know that’s not Arlo, and he has been like that even as your friend, and you two got along so well that I admired your friendship," Allison interrupted.
"Exactly. Arlo is just so outspoken and different; his choice of appearance and manners makes him so distinct. Why did you feel like it was necessary to change him now?" I asked, quite confused.
She shook her head, not dismissively, but in pain. " The difference was that he was no longer just my friend. That aura, that drag queen energy, is just for friendship. I wouldn’t like my mate looking like that. So I tried to change him."
"Ouch..."Allison and I chorused.
"I know that’s where I was wrong. I told him to stop hanging around female wolves a lot and start hanging out with the males. Maybe he would imitate or learn some masculinity from them," she continued.
"You are talking like you were ashamed of Arlo. Were you?" I probed.
"I wasn’t Ari. I just wanted him to be something more. It caused a strain in our relationship, as he started referring to me as nagging whenever I pointed out those flaws.
He started pointing out my flaws too, calling my wolf weak, telling me to train my wolf, and that hanging around stronger she-wolves wouldn’t make my wolf stronger.
The words we threw at ourselves that night were piercing like shattered glass. And after that night, we stopped seeing eye to eye. I was surprised he came in with that haircut and defended me today."
"And ignored you when you wanted to start a conversation," Allison added. "Isn’t that the kind of masculinity you wanted?"
"No! Allison..." Becca yelled.
"You are not making things any better, Allison," I scolded.
"Alright," Allison said, throwing her hands in the air and chuckling. "Or do you want the kind of Aven, or Tristan or Damon? Those arrogant specimens."
Becca rolled her eyes at Allison.
"You have to call Arlo," I suggested
"He doesn’t pick up my calls, so it’s useless even to call him," Becca swallowed.
"Then I would call him and insist that he speak with you," Allison suggested.
"You have to be sincere with him, Becca. Tell him how you feel about the argument, and most especially, you should apologise for even trying to change him.
He should change if he wants to change, not because you nagged him into it.
Meanwhile, Arlo has a good heart, and I’m sure he would go the extra length to protect you because he loved you even before you became mates," I added.
"I know, Ari, don’t make me feel worse," Becca mumbled.
"I’m dialing his number now," Allison announced.
"Alright, go on," Becca said, cleaning invisible dust from her hands. I could see that she was nervous and anxious, but she really wanted to speak with him.
The phone rang once, and Arlo picked it up immediately.
"Hello!" Arlo called out from the receiver.
Becca swallowed, and Allison cleared her throat.
"Hi, am I speaking with Arlo?" She replied, feigning a different tone.
"Yes, what can I help you with?"
His voice sounded very uptight and different, and that was definitely not the Arlo I knew. There was no excitement in his voice any longer.
"Please, Becca is in trouble, and she needs to speak with you now. She insisted she speaks with you," Allison lied.
"Becca is in trouble?..." Arlo’s tone changed, becoming more raspy and anxious.
"Let me speak with her, give her the phone immediately." 𝒻𝘳𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝘯𝘰𝑣ℯ𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝘮
"Sure," Allison said, swallowing a chuckle, and then handing the phone over to Becca.
"Hello, Becca, are you there?" Arlo called out frantically.
"Yes, Lo. It’s been a while," Becca answered softly.
I blushed; their relationship felt so cheesy, and that’s why I felt so uneasy when I learned they had problems.
