Chapter 219: What Happens in the Forest...

Ren stopped breathing. Her soul practically left her body.

She braced herself for the apocalypse.

She squeezed her eyes shut, fully expecting the worst things imaginable to happen in the next three seconds. She expected Kael to roar so loudly it would shatter her eardrums. She expected him to lunge, claws extended and rip Altair’s head right off his body.

She anticipated blood splashing across the freshly cleaned wooden floorboards, the tree somehow catching on fire from sheer testosterone-fueled rage, and herself having to jump out of the hut tonight just to survive the crossfire.

She waited for the sickening crunch of bones.

"Very well," Kael said solemnly.

Ren’s eyes snapped open. Her jaw unhinged, dropping so fast it practically hit the floorboards.

’Excuse me?’ Ren’s brain blue-screened.

Kael didn’t attack. He didn’t roar. Instead, the massive White Tiger beastman gave Altair a respectful, understanding nod.

"You saved her life from the bear," Kael reasoned, his voice rumbling with noble sincerity. "And Ren is a special female. She has a divine mission."

Ren immediately started pinching her own arm. Pinch. Pinch. Pinch. ’Ow! Okay, not a dream. Am I hallucinating? Did I eat something weird?’

"Mission?" Altair asked, tilting his head with perfect, feigned ignorance. He already knew everything, having heard Ren’s entire guilt-ridden confession just a while ago, but his stoic face revealed absolutely nothing.

Kael placed a large, heavy hand on Altair’s shoulder like an old war buddy.

"Yes," Kael explained gravely. "The Moon Goddess chose her. Ren is tasked with curing the Feral Madness that plagues our world. To do this, she needs to gather energy by taking multiple powerful mates. I have stepped down as Beast King, so my power is waning. You are a strong bird beastman, right? Your strength will help her fulfill the Goddess’s will."

Ren stared at Kael in absolute, mind-numbing shock. He was pitching her fake religion to the eagle like a door-to-door salesman selling vacuums.

"There is something else you must know," Kael added, his golden eyes narrowing slightly as he leaned in to give Altair the inside scoop. "The Snake King is also her mate. But he is... difficult. He is petty, unreasonable, and has a terrible temper. He is not as understanding as I am. It is best you avoid the swamp reptile when he comes to the forest."

Altair stared at Kael. He gave a single, slow nod. "I will avoid the snake."

[System: DING! DING! DING! JACKPOT!]

Confetti practically exploded in Ren’s mind. The System was rejoicing, playing a triumphant, upbeat fanfare that echoed between her ears.

[System: New Mate Acquired! Adding ’Golden Eagle Prince’ to the Harem Manager... Processing... Complete!] [System: Generating New Daily Mission: ’Take Flight’. Objective: Mate with Altair. Reward: Unlocks and improves the ’Accelerated Healing’ ability. You will heal from injuries 500% faster than the average human!]

Ren blinked at the glowing blue text.

’Accelerated healing?’ Ren thought, staring at the two massive, ridiculously built men casually discussing her mating schedule. ’Yeah. I am definitely going to need Wolverine-level healing if I am going to survive having three beastmen husbands. My pelvis is going to need a healing factor.’

She looked between Kael and Altair. There was absolutely no hostility between them. It thoroughly spooked Ren that they were getting along like this. It’s not like she wanted them to fight and destroy the treehouse, but... wasn’t this incredibly strange?!

It was literally another man politely asking a man for permission to have sex with his woman! And the man just saying, "Sure bro, watch out for the snake though."

Back in her world, this would be the climax of a chaotic daytime talk show. Chairs would be thrown.

[System: Host, I am begging you to abandon the puritanical views of your old world. This is the Beast World! Enjoy the freedom! Stop overthinking nonsense and look at the buffet in front of you!]

Ren took a deep breath. 𝒻𝘳𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝘯𝘰𝑣ℯ𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝘮

’You know what? Fine,’ Ren decided, letting her shoulders drop. ’I should be relieved. Nobody is fighting. Nobody is dying.’

A hot flush crept up her neck and settled permanently on her cheeks as she admitted a dangerous truth in her thoughts. She did like Altair. More than friends. He was gorgeous, protective, and had literal angel wings. If Kael didn’t mind it—if Kael was actively encouraging it in the name of the Moon Goddess—then who was she to complain?

Ren’s mind started working through the logistics.

She acknowledged that Syris would absolutely hate this idea. The Snake King would probably pop a blood vessel and try to strangle the bird. But... Syris was going to stay in the swamp. He hated the forest.

’What I do in the forest stays in the forest,’ Ren rationalized, a wicked little smirk tugging at the corner of her lips.

It was the perfect setup. In the forest, she would belong to Altair and Kael. They got along. They could coexist. And then, for three days a week, Syris would have her all to himself in his murky, private swamp.

It was a perfect situation.

Too perfect.

Ren suddenly felt incredibly nervous. A cold sweat broke out on her palms. Things were going too well. She was a woman who was used to the universe throwing frying pans at her head. She found herself bracing, anticipating another hidden variable, another chaotic disaster that would flip her world upside down yet again.

[System: Host, focus on the present. Your husbands need your attention right now.]

’What do you mean?’ Ren started to ask the System.

But before she could finish the thought, a shadow fell over her.

Ren looked up.

Altair and Kael were standing directly in front of her. They were towering over her small frame.

Ren gulped.

The way they were looking at her made the breath catch in her throat. The casual, polite brotherhood from two seconds ago was gone. The raw, primal lust in their eyes was perfectly mirrored—Kael’s burning gold and Altair’s piercing silver—as if they suddenly shared a single, very dangerous thought.

They stepped closer, caging her in against the wall of the tree hut.

Kael was the one who spoke. His voice was a deep, gravelly rumble that sent a shiver straight down her spine and pooled heavy heat low in her belly.

"Altair wants to try mating with his mouth like the snake did," Kael murmured, his golden eyes dropping to her lips. "And I do too."
