Talentless Extra Of The Legendary Hero Academy-Chapter 172: Gain and risk
Chapter 172: Gain and risk
"This doesn’t seem like the best training method," Derrick declared immediately, and he didn’t step further into the room.
The others seemed to support him, as they didn’t immediately enter. They stood by the door and watched Miret stride into the room. "This is not the best training method. It’s simply the method that has been proven to work."
Severin had never heard of such methods as well, but he’d already accepted his lot. The book would continue to surprise him. "Are these really dangerous?"
Miret smiled softly, his cold eyes on him. "Are you not the one that wants me to train you? Don’t tell me you are ready to back out of this?"
Severin smiled gently. "Do you think I would be where I am now if I backed out of things that have the potential to kill me? Go on, Miret, continue. Tell us what this training is all about."
Without waiting, Severin strode into the room, his eyes casually scanning the caskets.
Ethan took a deep breath and entered as well. The aura in the room was oppressive and weighed heavily on him, but he gritted his teeth and entered. Those behind him also entered, the chill of the room seeping into their bodies, and they unconsciously folded their hands.
Miret snorted coldly. "At least you’re not cowards."
Severin was feeling much better, and all the pain in the room was draining into his body, soaking into his flesh and bones. His blood thrummed.
Pain. In a way, Severin was eating the pain, and it was healing him rapidly.
Severin watched the process with curiosity, and his brain began to flicker with thoughts of how he could improve it. ’...maybe I can drink the pain when I’m fighting? But that would mean I would have to deal damage instead of killing my enemies... a dangerous thing...’
Severin’s eyes flickered as he thought of what the Obsidian Bleed did by bringing people together in a place and then inflicting pain to them to feed the seed of pain. ’...well... I’ll have to look into that. It’s not like I can’t do it...’
Miret touched one of the caskets with light fingers and fondness in his eyes. "This was created by me. It’s also powered by my Talent Ability. Simply put, it’s going to transfer your soul into another place that’s created by Etherion. That is where the real training will take place."
’...like a simulation?...’ Severin thought. ’...I always liked this kind of thing in books... just like the Timeless Immortal once did for me...’
Miret continued. "Since your Talent Ability is connected to your soul, any improvement you make will be transferred to your body. The experience would be your experience. No changes."
Severin was understanding it more and more.
Serena looked around. "How did you come about building something like this? I can’t even imagine the amount of money and resources that must have gone into the creation."
They were getting more comfortable now and looked around more with curiosity than fear.
Miret showed more of his rare smile, even though it was still cold. "Every major power has a secret way of training. It’s a needed thing for everyone of power. They need to build their own armies of power. So they all have secret ways of training them.
"Once, when I first dreamed of reaching more than I am now, I also built this to gather and build talents. Although most of them are prisoners, I did gather some impressive heirs and talents."
Severin asked what had been bothering him since. "What are the dangers?"
"If you get seriously injured in the Etherion space, then your soul would get damaged as well, and you’ll be trapped like this." Miret pointed to the caskets and at one of its occupants.
It was a woman. Her face was calm except for the fact that her eyelids were twitching wildly as if she were trapped in a nightmare.
"No one has ever survived if their soul gets damaged."
His words settled on them like stone in a riverbed, and the silence between them carried weight.
No one has ever survived? It was that dangerous?
Severin looked at the caskets more seriously. Nothing came without risk, but sometimes the risks are simply too much compared to the gains.
As usual, Severin compared the gain to the risk. "What are the benefits of these caskets? It won’t be simple if all it does is train."
Miret nodded in satisfaction at the question. "You are right. It is not simple. I made this thing by making contracts with two otherworldly beings. One of them is a Void Dragon, and that’s the place that I refer to as ’Etherion space.’ The other is a spirit, and that’s how the transfer of souls was made possible.
"The Etherion space is filled with quality Etherion, and just being inside will increase your Advancement. Added together with your training, and it’ll make you a terrifying figure in your Advancement Stage. Even S-ranked will be wary of you.
"With the difference in time between the real world and the Etherion space, you can also cheat time without compromising on quality of training."
"Also, it’s made in such a way that the difficulty of the training will adjust to the power level of the souls. So you won’t be given more than you can handle."
Severin nodded without speaking, his brows furrowed.
The gain was that they would gain power without much disturbance to time, and they would improve their Advancement. That was even more true for them who had just recently advanced.
And with the adjustment, they wouldn’t need to worry about training in a situation that’s higher than their ability.
"And the risk is that the soul might get seriously damaged and would be stuck in a limbo," Derrick said with a smirk, but his body language was screaming interest in the training.
Miret shrugged. "There’s no gain without risk. You just have to know what you want and what you are willing to do to get it. What do you think?"
Severin looked at his team. "I think I’ll let them make their decisions."
