Chapter 309: Chapter 309: The Sixth Sense

As the convoy prepared for departure, Ethan walked slowly across the frozen mud, his brow furrowed in concentration. "Crul, I don’t understand. This thing I just woken up... what is it exactly? How do I even use it?" Ethan said.

[It is as if a part of your senses has finally been unlocked, Master. That is why it is called Spiritual Sense. Think of it like sight, smell, or taste. It is something every living being naturally possesses, but in humans, it is dormant. It is as if a deaf man has suddenly recovered his hearing; at first, the noise will be confusing, but soon, you won’t be able to imagine a world without it,] Crul said.

"But I don’t feel anything different," Ethan said.

[[Just feel. Look around you. Use your normal senses—sight, smell, hearing—and tell me what is there now that wasn’t there before,]] Crul said.

Ethan stopped walking. He stood perfectly still in the middle of the clearing, closing his eyes for a second before opening them wide. He looked at his soldiers, the smoking ruins of the facility, and the skeletal trees surrounding the perimeter. At first, everything seemed normal. The storm had passed, leaving behind an eerie, absolute silence. There was no wind.

Then, a single blade of grass sticking out of the snow caught his attention. It was swaying.

There’s no wind, Ethan thought.

He watched the grass move with a rhythmic, intentional grace. It wasn’t the wind moving it; it was as if the grass itself were breathing. Ethan shifted his gaze downward and noticed a tiny ant scurrying across a patch of dark soil, moving erratically.

Suddenly, a wave of emotion hit him. It didn’t come from his own mind, but from the tiny insect. He felt a sharp, frantic pulse of fear and disorientation. The ant was lost.

Ethan rubbed his forehead, a dry laugh escaping his lips. "I’ve finally done it. I’ve gone completely insane. How am I supposed to know what an ant is thinking?" Ethan said.

As if responding to his voice, the ant stopped. he turned his tiny body toward Ethan, tilting his head. It was as if the creature knew the giant human could understand it. The ant vibrated its antennae rapidly and raised its two front legs. In his mind, Ethan felt a clear, desperate plea for help—the creature wanted to find his way back to the colony.

Incredulous, Ethan knelt and extended his hand. The ant crawled onto his finger. Ethan lifted it high, giving the tiny creature a vantage point. From that height, the ant scanned the terrain, its antennae twitching until it spotted the mound of a nest near a pine tree. It signaled frankly with its antennae. Ethan understood nothing and, yet, he understood everything.

He walked to the nest and lowered his finger. Before scurrying into the darkness of the mound, the ant pressed its head against Ethan’s skin in a clear gesture of gratitude.

"I am definitely losing my mind," Ethan said.

[[That is Spiritual Sense, Master. Every living being in creation has a spirit, but very few can interact with it. Now that you have ignited yours, you will realize how vital it is. The old system did a good job of giving you a head start with your previous options,]] Crul said.

"What options?" Ethan said.

[[The Qi-Scanner you use. It was a crutch—a tool designed to mimic Spiritual Sense to help you detect your surroundings. Now, you can do the same thing naturally, without needing a skill or a HUD,]] Crul said.

"Let’s see," Ethan said.

He closed his eyes and focused, not on his eyes, but on the "weight" in the air. Slowly, the physical world blurred, replaced by glowing orange shadows in the distance. He couldn’t see the trucks through the trees, but he could sense the exact number of people sitting inside the vehicles, their life forces flickering like small candles in the dark.

Suddenly, a blinding white pain seared through Ethan’s skull. He doubled over, clutching his head as the world spun, and he immediately cut off the spiritual flow. The orange shadows vanished, replaced by the dull, cold reality of the snow.

"Damn it... what was that?" Ethan gasped, his vision slowly returning.

[[Master, you cannot use Spiritual Sense as recklessly as you just did. You must give it a rest. It consumes a massive amount of Spiritual Energy, and you have just drained your reserves,]] Crul said.

"Spiritual Energy? Where the hell did that come from?" Ethan said.

[[Every living being possesses it, Master, but most never tap into the well. You have emptied yours in a single burst. Your body will refill it naturally over time, but this is a sign. You must begin to train seriously now,]] Crul said.

"Seriously? I’ve been training every day," Ethan said.

[[You have been training a Qi meditation technique. Qi can be transformed into elemental energy, but it cannot become spiritual energy. Now that you have evolved, your old methods are no longer enough. You must refine the spirit itself. Here,]] Crul said.

[Congratulations! You have received: "Amethyst Meditation Technique"]

"What is this?" Ethan said, looking at the notification.

[[This is the legacy of Lord Amethyst. From this moment on, you must train in this technique to control and expand your spiritual power.]] Crul said.

"What about my lightning? Will this interfere with my elemental abilities?" Ethan said. 𝕗𝐫𝐞𝕖𝕨𝐞𝗯𝚗𝕠𝘃𝐞𝚕.𝐜𝗼𝚖

[[Not at all. In fact, it will enhance them. Spiritual power can be converted into elemental energy that is far more potent than what you currently use. It acts as a supreme catalyst. You will love the results, I assure you,]] Crul said.

Before Ethan could even process the first gift, a second notification flashed before his eyes.

[Congratulations! "Amethyst Body Technique" acquired]

Ethan scanned the description of the technique, his eyes widening as he realized the depth of the power it contained. "These... these must be worth a fortune," Ethan said.

[[They are not in the Shop, Master. If they were, the price would be beyond imagination. These are your inheritance. It is time you started training properly, as a true successor should,]] Crul said.

Ethan felt a surge of gratitude. For the first time, he felt he was stepping out of the shadows of a "player" and into the light of a true powerhouse.

"Thank you, Crul. What do we need to do first?" Ethan said.

[Now, the real training begins. We will start as soon as we reach the next destination,] Crul said.

Ethan let out a short, determined laugh, his headache already fading into a dull hum. "Let’s do it," Ethan said.

As the headache receded, Ethan looked back at the spot where the black flower had been. "Can we find more of those? If one flower did this, a dozen would make me a god," Ethan said.

[[It doesn’t work that way, Master. As I told you, those flowers appear on their own. They cannot be sought; they can only be found by destiny. Even if you searched every inch of this tundra, you would find nothing unless the world itself decided to grant you another,]] Crul said.

Ethan let out a long breath, watching his steam vanish into the freezing air. He understood. Some things in this new world weren’t about grinding; they were about fate.

Just then, Jason walked over, shaking his head and blinking rapidly as if trying to clear cobwebs from his brain. Albert was right behind him, looking pale but stable.

"Boss, I’m back with us. That was... I don’t even know. One second I was looking at the fire, and the next I was dreaming about my childhood home. Everyone else is snapping out of it too," Jason said.

"It was a spiritual trap, Jason. It’s gone now. How are the men?" Ethan said.

"A bit dazed, but ready to move. We’ve finished loading the supplies from this site. The trucks are idling and the heat is holding up," Jason said.

Albert stepped forward, adjusting his glasses. "The storm has calmed enough for the convoy. If we move now, we can reach the third facility—the ’Processing Hub’—before their morning shift change. It’s the largest of the satellites. If my mother isn’t in the Arctic prison, she might have been transferred there for administrative logging," Albert said.

Ethan looked at Albert, then at Jason. He felt the new "Amethyst" techniques sitting in his mind like heavy, golden books waiting to be opened. He could feel the spiritual seed in his core, tiny but firm.

"We’ve wasted enough time with ghosts and flowers. Jason, get everyone in the vehicles. Albert, you’re with me. You’re going to guide us through their front door again," Ethan said.

"Understood, Boss," Jason said.

The engines of the heavy trucks roared to life, the snow chains clinking against the frozen ground as the convoy began to snake its way out of the ruins of the second facility. Ethan sat in the passenger seat, closing his eyes—not to sleep, but to begin feeling the first rhythms of the Amethyst Meditation.
