System Mission: Seduce the Final Boss [BL]-Chapter 58: Finally, to the real fun (no)!
The park felt louder once they stepped deeper into it.
Not just noise, but layers of noise, more specifically.
Kids screaming, rides creaking, annoying music looping somewhere in the background, vendors calling out deals that sounded suspiciously too good.
Blake walked beside Myles, hands tucked into his pockets, eyes looking around to find the perfect opportunity to make Myles smile.
’Well. This is it. This is where the fun happens. This is where I win things and impress him, too!’
He glanced sideways at Myles.
He still looked fairly uninterested. Which really contrasted with the black cat ears on his head that he kept wearing like it was the most normal thing in the world.
Blake narrowed his eyes slightly.
’It wouldn’t be so bad to embarrass him, or at least that’s what I used to think, because looking at his face now... tsk, he clearly wouldn’t act like a tsundere.’
"Myles," Blake said suddenly, pointing at Myles like he had just been personally selected by fate. "We’re doing something."
Myles looked at him.
"Yeah. What?
Blake turned dramatically, pointing toward a nearby game booth. "There."
Bright lights and plastic prizes.
And right at the top, a giant, soft-looking teddy bear.
It looked really cute, undoubtedly!
Blake grinned.
"That one."
His plan was simple.
Winning the bear, giving it to Myles and be cool about it, too.
’Yes, like I do this all the time! Although I doubt that would make him crack.’
They approached the booth, and the attendant gave them a bright smile.
"You get ten shots," the man said, gesturing to the setup.
A shooting gallery.
Air rifle.
Targets lined up in the back.
They weren’t stationary, though. They slightly moved, sliding side to side in a slow motion.
Blake squinted.
’Okay. That’s manageable, I think?’
He paid, taking the rifle in his hands.
Then, Blake adjusted his stance like he’d seen in movies.
’Alright. Focus and be impressive. The more I and the more I’ll seduce him.’
First shot, and it hit the target.
Second and third were down, too!
Blake’s confidence rose immediately.
’Oh, I’m good, like, actually good at this! This is my moment.’
Fourth, fifth, and it was still good.
He could practically feel the victory already.
By the seventh shot, he was locked in, eyes narrowing.
But at the ninth one, it moved way more compared to the others.
"...wait."
He lowered the rifle slightly, staring at the target.
’Did that move faster?’
The attendant didn’t say anything, just watched with the same bright smile.
Blake narrowed his eyes.
’Oh, so, you’re one of those.’
He lifted the rifle again.
Tenth shot. This was it.
He lined it up carefully.
Tracked the motion and waited.
The target slid, so Blake followed, adjusted, and right as he fired, it shifted again.
That same sudden movement, but even worse.
So he missed.
’Crap!’
Blake slowly lowered the rifle.
’...you’ve got to be kidding me, come on!’
He turned slightly, looking at the setup again, trying to process it.
Because he had it.
He really had it.
’That was mine. That bear was mine. I was about to win that.’
He exhaled through his nose, clearly baffled.
The attendant just shrugged faintly, like these things happen.
Blake squinted at him. Of course, it was suspicious but... it’s not like this was worth a fight.
He stepped back, handing the rifle over.
"...rigged," he muttered under his breath.
Then, quickly, he glanced at Myles.
’Oh well, it’s fine. I don’t need to win everything anyway. I was doing this for him anyway, it’s the thought that counts.’
Myles stepped forward.
"It’s my turn now."
Blake blinked.
"...oh?"
He watched as Myles paid without hesitation, taking the rifle in his hand.
He didn’t even adjust his stance or tried to take aim, he just held it calmly. 𝗳𝗿𝐞𝕖𝘄𝗲𝕓𝗻𝚘𝚟𝕖𝐥.𝚌𝕠𝕞
Blake tilted his head slightly.
’He doesn’t even look like he cares.’
First shot.
Hit.
Second.
Hit.
Third.
Hit.
Blake’s brows lifted slightly.
’Okay...?’
Fourth.
Fifth.
It was still perfect and with no hesitation.
Blake crossed his arms, watching more closely now.
Sixth.
Seventh.
Eighth.
The target kept moving faster, but Myles adjusted effortlessly, like it wasn’t even a challenge.
Ninth shot.
Hit.
Blake leaned forward just a little.
"Okay, Myles, be careful with the last one..."
At the tenth shot, the target shifted again.
Myles fired and hit it cleanly. Dead center.
Blake blinked.
"Woah."
The attendant’s smile faltered slightly, clearly not happy.
Then he reached up, grabbing the giant teddy bear from above.
"Here, this is for the winner."
Myles took it without a word and turned, walking back to Blake.
"Huh? What is it—"
Before he could even finish, Myles held the bear out toward him.
"Take it, you wanted this."
"Ah, thanks? I mean, thanks!"
Still, he felt a little embarrassed.
"The plan," Blake said, pointing between them, "was that I win it and give it to you."
Myles didn’t move, still holding the bear out.
"Seems like you failed."
Blake stared at him, then at the bear again, bursting out laughing.
’I was supposed to be the cool one giving the giant teddy bear, seriously! But, of course, how could a villain not beat me at this?’
Still, it was very soft and large, so not a loss.
Blake sighed, taking it reluctantly. "This isn’t over."
"Yeah, sure."
Blake adjusted his grip on the oversized bear as they started walking again, moving further into the park, weaving through people, past more rides and booths.
Then, Blake’s eyes landed on something and he stopped walking.
A grin spread across his face.
’Oh, it’s so perfect.’
He turned his head slightly, glancing at Myles.
’You have no idea what’s coming.’
In his mind, he laughed like he was the villain, instead.
Out loud, though, he just pointed casually. "We should go on that."
Myles looked, it was a bright, spinning carousel, with horses going up and down in cheerful loops.
Blake’s grin widened.
"Okay. Let’s go on that..."
Blake almost lost it right there.
’He agreed. Oh, this is going to be amazing.’
Moments later, they were on.
Blake chose a horse immediately, climbing on like he’d been waiting his whole life for this.
Myles also got on.
Which, Blake was not emotionally prepared for.
The ride started.
Slow at first, then it got faster, going up and down, round and round.
Looking back at Myles, Blake started laughing.
"This is ridiculous," he said between breaths, gripping the pole as his horse moved. "You, look at you—"
Myles just sat there so calmly, like he wasn’t the final boss on a spinning children’s ride with cat ears on.
Blake laughed harder.
’This is the best day of this life.’
By the time the ride ended, Blake was wiping tears from his eyes.
"Your face was so worth it," he declared, hopping off.
Myles stepped down beside him, poking the back of Blake’s head.
"Watch it."
He shook his head, still smiling as they walked on.
"Blake."
"Yeah?"
"How about we go there?"
Blake squinted at where Myles was pointing.
"Is that a haunted house? Man, it looks so fake."
It had plastic decorations with over-the-top design. It simply didn’t look all that scary.
Blake smirked.
’This is going to be easy.’
He walked toward it confidently, with Myles following behing.
Inside, it was dark, literally pitch black from the get go.
Blake paused.
’...okay, that’s normal.’
Then, something moved, with a loud noise following.
A figure jumping out from the side.
Blake flinched.
"Okay, that was a little unexpected," he said quickly, moving a little closer to Myles.
"It wasn’t, really."
Seemed like Myles was feeling petty.
Blake jerked again as a hand reaches to grab him, this time he straight up grabbed his arm.
"Are you laughing?"
"I’m not."
That was quite unfortunate.
Step by step, he found himself clinging closer, every sudden movement pushing him just a little nearer.
By the middle of it, he was basically glued to Myles’ side.
’This shit is so embarassing. I was moving like a pro at APO. Look at me now... but what can I do, jump scares are my weak point.’
There were more weird monsters, sticky walls and whatever else he accidentally touched.
But finally, he was the light.
Exit.
Blake stepped out quickly, blinking as his eyes adjusted.
"Okay," he said, clearing his throat. "My choice was considerably better."
He immediately let go of Myles’ arm, like he hadn’t grabbed it at all.
"Was it?"
"I mean, calling it better is a bit much, I agree with that much. Still, it wasn’t so stressful!"
"What was so stressful about it?"
"Dude, being palmed like that isn’t my cup of tea, alright?"
Then, Blake noticed that a big, fluffy mascot was approaching them, holding cotton candy.
It stopped right in front of them.
"...hi?"
The mascot tilted its head slightly.
Then held out the cotton candy toward him.
"Hi, Blake."
"Um, what."
He took the cotton candy slowly, staring at the mascot.
"...do I know you?"
They simply titled their head.
Blake frowned slightly, glancing sideways at Myles, and paused.
His expression was completely different from the one he wore earlier.
Blake’s fingers started to tremble.
Those eyes made him feel nothing but dread.
"...who is this?" Blake asked, looking back at the mascot.
The mascot lifted a hand.
Reaching toward Blake’s head, toward the ears.
But before it could touch, Myles’ grabbed the mascot’s wrist mid-air.
"Hands off."
