System Mission: Seduce the Final Boss [BL]-Chapter 47: Spy first experience
The only thing he needed to do was change his appearance with the mask and, of course, use his skill yet another time.
"I’ll sneak for my lover."
Blake was finally out of the building, walking fast.
"Love tracker."
But, of course, checking on Myles mattered as much. Not surprisingly, he was in a random city.
Contrary to what one might expect, the final boss did not even commit that many crimes.
Or probably it was because the press did not speak of it, for some reason.
’Well, to be honest, I can’t understand why they’re not trying to worsen his reputation even further.’
Myles was the final villain, yet so irrelevant for most of the novel it made him actually think at times.
But it wasn’t his main concern now. As he got on the bus, nobody even looked at him, not even the bus driver asked for the card payment.
’What a reliable skill. Can’t wait to level it up.’
[ Mission: Call Myles Cortez in the middle of a mission. ]
[ Favorability level: 8 ]
[ Time limit: 1 hour ]
[ Penalty: Unluckiness ]
[ Reward: Boost ]
...?
Blake clenched his jaw.
’Fucking hell...’
He turned his head slightly, staring out of the bus window, though he wasn’t really seeing anything.
"Why did it have to be now...."
Spoon really had the worst timing.
He rubbed his temple with two fingers, trying to keep himself calm.
"Just... fuck."
Calling Myles.
Right now.
While he was probably in the middle of something.
Something illegal.
Something dangerous.
Blake leaned back against the seat, exhaling slowly.
’I don’t have the patience for this.’
He really didn’t, at least not now, not when he had something else to deal with.
But then again...
"Unluckiness..."
His expression tightened slightly.
"Yeah, no."
He wasn’t taking that, especially now that he was about to walk into a place like AOP.
That kind of penalty would get him killed.
Or worse...
Blake closed his eyes for a brief moment, then opened them again.
’Fine.’
He reached into his pocket and pulled out his phone.
His thumb hovered over Myles’ contact.
Just for a second, he hesitated.
"This is so stupid."
There was no way Myles would actually pick up.
Not in the middle of something as important as committing a literal crime, anyway...
But still, he desperately pressed call anyway.
The phone rang.
Once.
Twice.
Blake stared at the screen, already expecting nothing.
’Yeah... figures.’
Click.
"What is it?"
Blake froze completely.
His grip on the phone tightened without him realizing.
That voice, it was actually him.
It sounded like he wasn’t doing anything at all, like there wasn’t anything wrong.
’Um, isn’t he in the middle of an attack or something, why is it so silent...:
There was no background noise or movement.
Blake’s chest tightened slightly.
"..."
He didn’t answer because he really couldn’t, for a second.
"Blake."
Myles calmly said his name again.
"Yeah..."
Blake finally spoke, voice coming out a bit rougher than expected.
He cleared his throat quickly.
"What are you doing?"
"Why?"
Myles replied, still calm.
"I’m busy."
Blake swallowed.
What was surprising was that he even answered.
Blake’s mind went blank for a second.
What was he supposed to say?
"...I just..."
He stopped, then restarted.
"I just wanted to... check."
That sounded stupid.
He knew it did.
"Check what?"
His fingers curled slightly around the phone.
’Think, there must be something normal to say to him, that wouldn’t sound off...’
Well, in Myles’ eyes, he must be some kind of loving fool, so...
"I missed you."
The words slipped out before he could find a better excuse
"What?"
He exhaled quickly, trying to fix it.
"I mean, it’d been three days since we saw each other, a few hours before."
He rushed slightly now.
"And even last time... it was annoying staying away for a week."
Radio silence.
Blake’s heart beat a little faster.
"That’s all."
"...Hm."
Blake couldn’t read it.
"Where are you?"
Blake froze again.
’Of course he’d ask that, out of all the questions!’
There weren’t many ways to lie to someone like him.
"I have to go!"
He cut in quickly.
"My soup is..."
He glanced around, like that would help.
"It’s exploding on the stove. So, I’ll call you later."
And before anything else could come out, he hung up.
The screen went dark.
Blake stared at it for a second.
Then let out a long, heavy sigh.
’...Did I just hung up on the final boss? I must be stupid, after all.’
His shoulders dropped slightly.
’Seriously... what was that?’
He rubbed his face with one hand.
Still, the call went through, that was all that mattered.
[ Mission complete. ]
Blake straightened slightly.
’...Finally.’
[ Choose a permanent boost. ]
He blinked.
’Wait, I can choose?’ 𝑓𝘳𝘦𝑒𝑤𝑒𝘣𝘯ℴ𝘷𝘦𝓁.𝑐𝑜𝑚
That was new.
Usually, it just... did whatever it pleased.
Blake frowned slightly, thinking.
Attack?
Speed?
Something useful for breaking in?
He paused.
Then shook his head.
’No.’
What he needed wasn’t that, at least not right now.
He was about to walk into something dangerous.
’I need to survive first.’
That mattered more.
"I choose to boost my defense."
[ Boost applied. ]
Blake exhaled slowly.
’...Good. Let’s hope it’s useful.’
That was one less thing to worry about.
At least a little.
***
Time passed.
The bus ride felt longer than it should have.
Or maybe it was just him.
He stepped off, the doors closing behind him with a quiet hiss.
He looked around.
’So this is Poleucy, huh...’
It was quiet but, most especially, empty.
Blake slipped his phone into his pocket, then reached for the mask.
He hesitated for a second.
Then put it on.
The change came quickly.
His features shifted.
His build became bigger.
Blake looked down at his hands, briefly.
He flexed his fingers once, then started walking.
And walking.
And walking.
The road stretched out with almost nothing around.
No people.
No cars.
Just silence.
Blake exhaled slowly through his nose.
’This place is unnaturally deserted.’
Still, that made sense, places like this weren’t supposed to attract attention.
Eventually, he saw it, from a distance, making him slow down immediately.
Then moved off the path, slipping behind a large rock.
He crouched slightly, peeking out.
’There it is.’
The land was fully covered.
A wide mesh fence stretched all around it.
It was high and annoying because there were too many obvious openings.
Blake scratched the back of his head slightly.
’...Yeah, that’s annoying.’
He looked around carefully.
There was no movement, no guards in sight.
At least, not yet.
"And the cameras..."
He narrowed his eyes. There were a few.
But not many.
Less than expected.
"Trying to look normal?"
Maybe.
Or maybe they didn’t need more.
Blake stayed still for a moment, watching.
Nothing changed.
"...Alright."
He moved slowly along the edge, keeping low.
Looking for something.
Anything.
A blind spot.
A weak point.
"There."
It wasn’t perfect, but better it was better than the rest.
Blake took a breath, stepping closer as he grabbed the mesh, trying to climb.
His foot slipped almost immediately.
"—shit."
He lost grip and fell back.
His head hit the ground lightly.
"Ah—"
Blake winced, sitting up quickly.
’...That hurt.’
He rubbed the back of his head, frowning.
"Focus."
He stood up again.
Tried once more.
His hands struggled to find proper grip.
The mesh was harder to hold than expected.
"...Right."
He glanced at his hands again.
They were way bigger, sturdier.
’Not that it’s helping me.’
Blake exhaled sharply.
He stepped back, looking around.
"Think."
There had to be another way.
His gaze landed on a large rock nearby.
Close enough, high enough.
"...Yeah."
Not ideal, but it would work, hopefully.
Blake walked over to it, placing his hand against the rough surface.
’Guess we’re doing this.’
He climbed, although careful.
The rock wasn’t stable everywhere.
But he managed.
Step by step.
Until he reached the top.
Blake looked at the fence from there.
"...Okay."
It was way closer now.
He bent his knees slightly.
Then jumped.
His hands caught the top.
Barely.
"Got it—!"
His grip tightened instantly.
His body swung slightly.
’Don’t fall... don’t fall...’
He pulled, his arm muscles tensed.
His leg searched for support.
"Come on—"
It took effort.
More than he expected.
But, he managed.
Blake dragged himself up, finally getting over the top.
Then, he dropped.
Hard.
"—gh!"
The impact shot through his legs.
Pain flared briefly.
But he didn’t stop.
Blake pushed himself up quickly.
Breathing slightly heavier now.
’...I’m in.’
He looked around.
’There’s nowhere to hide...’
The open space led straight to the small building.
Blake reached into his pocket, fingers brushing against the knife.
He hesitated.
’...Only if necessary, I will take it out.’
He wasn’t planning to use it.
Not unless he had no choice.
Still, he felt slightly better knowing it was there.
’And defense is boosted...’
Blake started walking calmly, even if his chest felt tight. Even if every step felt louder than it should.
As he got closer, the door opened.
Blake froze.
A guard stepped out casually.
Helmet on.
Gun in hand.
And then, he saw him.
The guard stopped.
For a second, neither of them moved.
Then, the guard raised the gun, fast.
Blake’s body reacted before his mind did.
His feet moved.
He closed the distance in seconds.
His hand shot forward, grabbing the gun.
Forcing it upward.
"—!"
The guard tried to resist.
But Blake pushed harder. He could overpower his way through this, he was considerably stronger thanks to the mask.
His grip tightened.
His other hand shoved him back.
The guard lost balance.
Fell.
Blake didn’t stop.
He forced him down completely, pinning him.
Then, he quickly climbed on top.
His hand grabbed the helmet and pulled it off.
And with the back of the gun, he struck until the body went limp.
Breathing unevenly, he stopped.
"..."
He stared down for a second.
Then leaned back slightly.
A shaky breath left him.
"...Shit."
He ran a hand through his hair, still holding the gun loosely.
"That..."
He swallowed.
"...That worked."
