Switched Life:I Went Viral on a Family Variety Show-Chapter 457: King and Servant
"Ningbao, didn’t you say you’d forgive me? Why..." Lu Yujing spoke with a slight furrow in her brow. Her eyes instantly welled up, tears swirling around her reddened eyes, broken and pitiful, evoking a deep sense of sympathy.
But sympathy wasn’t something Sang Ning felt at all. On the contrary, she was overwhelmed by an intense impulse—a desire to crush Lu Yujing. She quickly turned her head away, refusing to look at her, and managed to somewhat calm her restlessness.
Supposedly, some people’s energy fields clash with yours, and no matter what they do, you won’t like them. Sang Ning thought, maybe Lu Yujing was just that kind of person.
Sang Ning asked the System in her mind, "System, do you think time distortion could impact someone’s personality?"
Static crackled inside her head. She assumed the System must be thinking. Shortly after, a mechanical voice responded, "I don’t know for sure. It’s probably possible."
"Got it," Sang Ning replied to the System, then turned back to Lu Yujing. "What exactly did I forgive you for?"
Lu Yujing’s heart skipped a beat. She had assumed Sang Ning wouldn’t dig deeper, which was why she had casually spouted some vague nonsense. But now, needing to cover her tracks, she wasn’t sure what to say.
Hesitating, afraid Sang Ning might spot a flaw, she was relieved when the boatman asked them to disembark. This gave her some time to regroup.
After both stepped ashore, Lu Yujing finally pieced together a coherent lie.
With a flair for dramatics, she spoke confidently, a reddened face and deceptive innocence intact: "You see, I lied to you earlier. I said that Li Juezhou and I had an extraordinary bond as childhood friends, but the truth is, our families are indeed acquainted, but he and I were never close growing up. If there were any connection, it’d be my one-sided crush on him. The things I said before—those were just out of jealousy over Li Juezhou’s girlfriend not being me. I just wanted to spite you with those lies..."
Sang Ning instinctively felt that Lu Yujing was lying. She fixed her sharp gaze on the other, trying to spot any cracks in her expression. Yet the other woman seemed genuinely emotional, her half-lowered eyes misty with what appeared to be guilt—a seemingly sincere remorse.
All of a sudden, Lu Yujing raised her head sharply, looking at her with tear-filled, innocent eyes. "Ningbao, didn’t I confess this to you a long time ago? Why are you asking again?"
Sang Ning arched a brow slightly, straightened her posture, and replied ambiguously, "Who said the same question can’t be asked twice?"
"It can, of course it can—you can ask as many times as you want." Lu Yujing forced a fake smile, but inwardly, she was uneasy.
Could Sang Ning actually remember what happened before the time distortion? Otherwise, why would she still harbor such animosity toward her?
Lu Yujing paused briefly, then grabbed Sang Ning’s hand. Not seeing any sign of rejection, she shook it playfully and said in a spoiled tone, "Ningbao, is it worth being upset with me over a man? I really like you and want to be friends with you. Can’t you give me another chance, please?"
Lu Yujing’s voice was so sickly sweet that it made Sang Ning’s skin crawl.
It had to be the time distortion affecting Lu Yujing’s personality!
"Call me by my full name; don’t call me Ningbao—it’s nauseating." Sang Ning pulled her hand away. Her tone wasn’t affectionate, but it wasn’t harsh either.
Lu Yujing reached for Sang Ning’s arm again, this time looping her arm through it. "No, I refuse. I have to call you Ningbao—that’s my exclusive nickname for you."
This time, Sang Ning finally sensed the thick emotional undertones emanating from Lu Yujing’s passionate gaze—a kind of fondness so fervent it carried the undertone of wanting to annihilate her at any second.
Sang Ning laughed to herself. Unless Lu Yujing was a psychopath, she couldn’t possibly have such a murderous attachment to her.
In the end, Sang Ning refused to walk arm-in-arm with Lu Yujing. Her instinctive repulsion foretold that they could only remain casual acquaintances, their relationship surviving on surface politeness alone.
Fifteen minutes later, the group of guests finally arrived at Snow Village.
The enormous ice-and-snow resort welcomed them, its entrance framed by towering, intricately carved ice sculpture gates flanked by two adorable ice-carved stone lions.
Before even passing through the gates, they were met by tall ice-sculpted structures of various designs, illuminated with vibrant, colorful lights. The buildings appeared staggered and layered, dazzlingly captivating.
Just as they entered, a massive banner slowly unfurled above the park’s entrance, spelling out "Snow Village warmly welcomes you" in shining gold letters.
The Program Director—PD—stood directly beneath the banner, beaming as he waved at them. "Welcome, guests, to Snow Village! Up next, we’ll start today’s warm-up game. Are you all ready?"
"Ready!" the group shouted in unison.
"Then we’ll first choose today’s lucky King." The PD reached behind him and whipped out a set of thin, red sticks like a magician. "I have seven red sticks here; one of them is the King stick, and the rest are servant sticks. Whoever draws the King stick will be exempt from today’s game and get special privileges—like asking any guest to serve them."
As the youngest among the guests, Song Shiye lined up last for his turn, out of courtesy.
The earlier participants couldn’t hide their disappointment after checking their sticks, grumbling as they returned.
"What awful luck—why’d I have to get a servant stick?" Lu Yujing gripped her red stick and peered at Sang Ning’s as she returned from drawing hers. "Ningbao, what stick did you get?"
Sang Ning said nothing, simply holding her stick upright in front of Lu Yujing to answer her question.
"Ser—vant—" Lu Yujing read the characters on the stick aloud. She almost blurted out, "Great!" but quickly stopped herself, substituting it with a regretful expression and looking longingly at Sang Ning. "Oh, Ningbao, you didn’t draw the King stick either..."
"Huh? Sister Sangsang didn’t get the King stick either? Then that makes me the King, doesn’t it?" Song Shiye chimed in, picking up Lu Yujing’s thread.
All eyes instantly turned toward him.
Uncle Qin Feng protested, "You’re just a kid—what King? Uncle Hai is the most senior, and he didn’t even get it. How’d it fall to you?"
Song Shiye wasn’t having it. He raised his chin defiantly. "What good is being senior? Today’s luck favors the bold hero."
With that, he stepped forward to the PD and pulled out the last red stick, displaying its face to the crowd. The word "King" loomed large in bold letters.
Song Shiye smugly scanned the group, his gaze finally landing back on the PD. He tucked away his pride momentarily and asked cautiously, "Can I exercise my King’s privileges now?"
The PD nodded affirmatively. "Of course."
Song Shiye declared, "I want Qin Feng silenced for a day."
"You little punk..." Qin Feng charged forward, fuming.
Song Shiye widened his eyes and pointed at Qin Feng, warning, "Honor the gentleman’s agreement, honor the agreement!"
PD chimed in, "Servant Qin Feng, please strictly obey the King’s orders."
On camera, Qin Feng didn’t want to embarrass himself by acting out, so he puffed up his cheeks in annoyance and reluctantly cursed Song Shiye under his breath, calling him a "petty tyrant" before begrudgingly shutting his mouth.
