Switched Life:I Went Viral on a Family Variety Show-Chapter 365: Deciding on the Theme Together
Once the entire dorm agreed to participate, everyone immediately held a discussion to plan the theme and details of the video shoot.
They ultimately decided to use individual transition shots, piecing them together into a complete promotional video.
The first shot featured Sun Bangyu playing the part of a seed breaking through the soil, symbolizing her breaking free from internal constraints, bidding farewell to her once-closed-off self, and embracing a new life.
After Sun Bangyu introduced herself, she pinched the seed with her thumb and forefinger, holding it up close to the camera for a detailed shot. As the seed gradually grew larger, Huang Chengzi appeared in the frame, holding a shot put.
After Huang Chengzi introduced herself and showcased her strong yet adorable personality, she casually tossed the shot put. 𝙛𝒓𝓮𝙚𝔀𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝒐𝒎
The flying shot put slowly shrank, transforming into a small pebble.
The pebble sliced through the air and was caught mid-flight by Wei Lejun with a sharp and fluid gesture. While introducing herself, she performed a martial arts routine, deftly spinning the pebble in her fingers before firing it forward. It struck and split apart a piece of bamboo that was coming toward her.
The bamboo shattered instantly, splitting into several strips that flew in various directions. One particular strip flew far off, its shape growing sharper until it finally morphed into a gleaming sword.
After Sang Ning caught the sword, she performed a simple sword dance move, finishing with her introduction.
The challenges of the video revolved around editing and martial arts choreography, though the editing part wasn’t all that tough.
If the production team felt that this added too much workload, they could send Sun Bangyu to handle it—despite her quiet demeanor, she was a tech whiz. Editing a video wasn’t remotely difficult for her.
As for the martial arts choreography, with Sang Ning on board, designing visually striking moves wasn’t a problem. The key was whether the girls could practice the routines well enough to execute them smoothly.
The idea was still in its early stages, and as for how the final product would turn out, it would depend entirely on practice and rehearsal.
The next day, the crew deliberately gave everyone the morning off, providing them with half a day to rehearse the promotional video.
The rehearsal took place in a spacious dance studio with massive, floor-to-ceiling mirrors installed on all the walls. Each person could find a random corner and practice in front of their mirror.
Everyone was gathered in the same room, which made the scene hilariously chaotic when the actual rehearsals began.
Determined to make a strong impression in front of the camera the next day, many people began showing off their best moves—front flips, backflips, you name it.
Some participants really had skills; their flipping prowess was undeniable, and even in mid-air, their movements were impressively agile and precise.
Watching people flip back and forth nonstop, Sang Ning’s eyes started to blur. For a second, she felt as though she were standing in a dense jungle, and the figures darting past her vision were actually native monkeys of that forest.
"I used to think people who could do flips were super cool, but now that I see so many of them flipping around, it doesn’t feel all that special anymore," Huang Chengzi remarked, standing next to Sang Ning. Her head turned left and right nonstop, following the male students as they flipped.
"I agree—unless they start flipping into the air like helicopter propellers, it’s hard to tell them apart. None of them look exceptionally cool, anyway," added Wei Lejun, crossing her arms as she scrutinized the male students with a critical eye.
Lian Qi initially planned on finding the most photogenic angle for flipping, but during one of his flips, he overheard someone criticizing him.
Stopping firmly in front of Wei Lejun, Lian Qi raised a brow and asked indignantly, "Who are you saying isn’t exceptionally cool? I’ll have you know I was our school’s campus heartthrob for four years straight."
After speaking, Lian Qi tilted his head down slightly, ran a hand through his hair, and struck what he thought was a dashing pose. He then cheekily clicked his tongue at Wei Lejun and said, "So, woman, how about it? Smitten yet?"
"The only thing I’ve concluded is that the guys from your school must not have been great in general," Wei Lejun replied, rolling her eyes and pointing casually. "See that? Tan Qianzhi’s landing control on his flips is way better than yours. The second you landed earlier, your form almost blinded me. With that level, you really have the nerve to show it off?"
Following Wei Lejun’s finger, Lian Qi looked over and locked eyes with Tan Qianzhi. The latter scratched his head, looking sheepish as he glanced back.
Lian Qi rolled his eyes dramatically before stomping over to Tan Qianzhi, gripping him by the shoulders, and shaking him frantically: "Bro, this is low! Could you not steal my thunder like this?"
Tan Qianzhi, shaken to the point of dizziness, managed to stammer out, "B-but... flipping is my signature move!"
Apart from Tan Qianzhi, at least three other people also chose flips as their talent to showcase.
Lian Qi felt utterly defeated—if it were just this one silly Tan Qianzhi, he could easily pressure him into picking something else. But with so many competitors, there was no way he could out-argue all of them.
"All of you, stop flipping already! Flipping’s so common now it’s not even worth anything anymore!" Lian Qi shouted from where he stood, instantly drawing everyone’s attention.
"Wei Lejun even said it—none of you are exceptionally good-looking, and now you all want to flaunt the same trick? People might mistake you for a bunch of monkeys from the same mountain who just gained sentience!" Lian Qi slyly pushed the blame onto Wei Lejun, reasoning that if he couldn’t show off flips, no one else should get to either.
Having her words dragged into this, Wei Lejun was naturally unhappy. Without hesitation, she snapped back, "Sure, they might not be exceptionally hot, but you? You’re exceptionally ugly. How about you just go on camera without makeup tomorrow and scare the audience to tears?"
"You—" Lian Qi was fuming but bound by his gentlemanly principles to never use force on women. He could do nothing but glare at her, infuriated.
"I blame myself for believing that nonsense about flips being the ultimate glow-up for guys. Who would’ve guessed so many people would go for the same ’glow-up’ move?"
"Whatever, fine. Since all of you are dead set on showing off flips, I’ll let you have it. Meanwhile, I’ll come up with a dazzling new talent no one can resist!"
The other participants, who had initially felt confident, started second-guessing themselves after hearing Lian Qi’s words. If everyone was showcasing the same talent, it wouldn’t stand out anymore.
Noticing the shift in their expressions, Lian Qi felt quite pleased. If everyone else gave up flipping, he could swoop back in and steal the spotlight—it was what he was best at, after all.
The three girls from the dorm watched the boys clowning around for a while. Then, Sang Ning clapped her hands to snap her friends out of their reverie and said, "Alright, that’s enough watching. Let’s get to rehearsing our routines."
The trio followed Sang Ning to one of the corners of the dance studio.
Seeing the girls leave, Lian Qi released Tan Qianzhi and sneaked after them, curious to see what kind of ideas they were cooking up.
After being mocked so much by Wei Lejun, he was determined to see whether the girls could actually come up with anything impressive.
