Sweet Wife So Charming: CEO: Hold Back Your Heart-Chapter 96: Hatred
From the other side of the phone came Julian Sinclair’s deep voice, "Let her go."
"Meet me once and I’ll let her go." Fiona Rhodes bargained.
Julian Sinclair agreed without hesitation, "Have her bring you over."
Fiona Rhodes hung up the phone, her gaze as sharp as if interrogating a criminal, "Where is he?"
Moira Young wanted to make a condition too, "Tell me what kind of hatred exists between Arthur Whitman and Julian Sinclair, and I’ll take you to see him."
Fiona didn’t expect her to learn so quickly, and narrowed her eyes in amusement.
She only recently confirmed why Julian hated Arthur Whitman so much, and it was the Rhodes family who told her after their investigation.
"Your dad raped Julian’s mom, causing her to commit suicide out of shame, do you think this hatred is deep enough?"
Moira was completely shocked by this answer. Ever since that incident, her mind was filled with ways to hate him, to stay away from him, but she never considered the reason behind Julian Sinclair’s actions...
It turned out to be vengeance for his mother!
How could this happen...
Moira’s eyes widened, tears streaming down. She suddenly felt a pang of heartache for Julian. During their nine years of living together, Julian had almost never talked to her about his mother. She always thought it was his sad past, but never expected...
Moira had no biological parents from a young age, and her foster mother died when she was nine years old. She always thought that her inner sadness couldn’t be understood by anyone, but now she realized, how was Julian’s pain any less?
Regardless of true feelings or not, Julian cherished her for nine years, and what about himself? Apart from a father who never spoke, he had nothing...
Fiona didn’t care about Moira’s current emotional state; she just wanted to see Julian.
"Actually, to be honest, you’re not really a threat to me. After all, when Julian sees you, it’s like seeing his mother’s murderer. Do you wonder how he spent those days with you?" Fiona couldn’t resist adding fuel to the fire.
"Alright, hurry and tell me where Julian is, or I’ll throw you up the mountain."
Moira’s voice was a bit hollow, faint, and if not listened to carefully, it seemed as if she hadn’t spoken, "The hospital."
"Hospital? What’s wrong with him?"
Moira didn’t want to speak anymore. She no longer knew how to face Julian.
Fiona shot her a displeased look, then drove to the hospital.
Upon arriving at the hospital, Moira told her the room number. Unexpectedly, Fiona wouldn’t let her leave, "How do I know if what you said is true? What if Julian isn’t in the hospital? You have to come up with me."
Moira had no choice but to go up with her.
At the door of the hospital room, Fiona saw familiar bodyguard faces, finally confirming that Julian was here, and immediately opened the door and went in.
"Why have you been avoiding me for so long?" Fiona walked to the bed and said to Julian, with Adrian Grant also present.
Julian didn’t say anything.
"He might be — afraid of marriage!" Adrian cleverly replied, "After all, you guys are about to get engaged and married. Who wouldn’t be nervous?"
This sentence left Fiona speechless, unable to argue back, even though she knew it wasn’t the truth.
"Julian, my parents have been urging us to return to Vesperia. After all, I’m not young anymore, and it’s time for us to get engaged. Could you consider it for me?"
"You also know, all the elders of The Sinclair Group are waiting. As soon as we finalize our engagement, the authority of The Sinclair Group will be yours."
Adrian stole a glance at Julian, who remained expressionless, unmoved.
The atmosphere was a bit awkward.
"Fiona, your engagement is a matter of time. Since he’s afraid of marriage, why push him?" Adrian tried to smooth things over.
"Stop talking, I want to hear it directly from him. Will he still go back to Vesperia and get engaged with me?" Fiona’s words were strong, but she was actually feeling a bit guilty. Even though they grew up together, she had never truly understood Julian’s mind.
"Yes." Julian finally showed some reaction.
Fiona let out a breath, her tone softened considerably, "That’s good."
"Why are you hospitalized? Is your shoulder hurt?" Only then did Fiona realize she hadn’t inquired about Julian’s condition. She looked at his shoulder, which was heavily bandaged, "How did it get injured?"
Julian didn’t answer that question. Instead, he asked, "Did you let her go?"
Fiona was startled, but having just heard Julian would engage with her, she didn’t care as much about Moira’s presence, "She’s at the door."
"That girl kept calling me today, I’ll go teach her a lesson." Adrian feigned anger and walked out.
Once outside, he saw Moira standing at the door with her head down, as if she had done something wrong.
He looked around confusedly, genuinely thinking she’d done something wrong, "Did you steal something from the hospital?"
Moira pouted, shaking her head.
"Then why do you look like that?" Adrian chuckled at her.
Moira hesitated, finally summoning the courage to speak, "Fiona told me the reason for the enmity between Uncle and Arthur."
Adrian’s dark brown pupils rippled for a moment, "What did she say?"
"She said... Arthur harmed his mother..."
Adrian thought Fiona might embellish the story, but it seemed she hadn’t, and he let out a small sigh of relief, "So, you’re like this because of it?"
Moira nodded. She had previously thought this was all Julian’s deception, but now knowing the truth, she felt that even if it were a deception, it was understandable.
"I haven’t even asked, why did you run off last night again? I thought you two could’ve reconciled."
"I don’t know..." Moira bit her lower lip, trying not to cry too miserably.
Adrian softened toward Moira, comforting her, "Your Uncle’s feelings for you have never changed. Even if you suspect him of other intentions, you shouldn’t doubt his feelings for you."
"Every time I meet you, I have to say things like this. It seems you haven’t listened at all. It’s a wonder I’ve been running around like a busybody, doing this mediation for you two all the time."
Moira hesitated for a moment, "You’re in cahoots, so what you say can’t be trusted..."
Adrian didn’t expect Moira to be waiting for him there, "Fine, don’t believe it. Let me tell you something. Do you know what Fiona said after she went in just now? You don’t know, but her first concern wasn’t Julian’s condition."
"Anyway, from that, you can see that what she cares about more is not Julian; it’s the power of The Sinclair Group, do you get what I mean?"
Moira looked at him blankly, as if she didn’t understand, yet also seemed to understand.
"They’re in a relationship after all..." Moira mumbled, "And they grew up together as childhood sweethearts."
"Silly girl, think carefully, how many times has Julian seen her in recent years?" Adrian patted her little head, "Trust your Uncle. In his heart, you’re irreplaceable."
Moira suddenly thought of the time Julian kissed her, her cheeks immediately turning red, "Stop saying that!"
Adrian was puzzled for a moment; Moira would often cling to Julian and never blushed, why did she blush immediately at a casual mention today?
Could it be... something unspeakable happened between them?
"Ahem, Moira, between you and Julian..." Adrian curled his lips, deliberately elongating the last syllable.
"Nothing happened between us!" Moira instinctively defended herself in panic, afraid of anyone finding out.
Adrian wasn’t a fool; this reaction told him something had definitely happened. He was elated inside but acted outwardly as if comforting, "Alright, alright, nothing happened, I believe you!"
Moira got angry at his teasing tone, feeling more and more ashamed. Instinctively, she raised her hand to cover her mouth, startling Adrian.
"Did you two kiss?" he asked abruptly, without any warning.
