Chapter 81: Chapter 81: Misunderstanding

Immediately, he sensed something was off, then looked at Moira Young, discovering that Moira was staring at him with her big, watery eyes.

Heath Sterling suddenly felt a bit uncomfortable with Moira Young looking at him so intently, thinking he might have done something wrong. His cheeks reddened, and he awkwardly explained, "This house was bought with my own prize money from competitions. It’s my own property. I originally planned to live here when I started college. However, I now live in a dorm with Carter Porter, which feels pretty good, so I haven’t moved into my own place."

"Don’t get the wrong idea. I just genuinely want you to have a good place to rest. Thea Thorne has been bullying you since high school, and since I can’t get into the girls’ dorm to protect you, I thought of offering you my house." Heath was slightly nervous, "Don’t worry, you’d be living there alone!"

Moira Young couldn’t help but laugh at Heath Sterling’s flustered explanation. She bit her lower lip, feeling a flood of pain wash over her; a tear slid down her cheek to her collarbone.

The damp sensation brought her clarity.

For the first time since leaving Julian Sinclair, her heart had a reaction. The feeling was indescribable, but she clearly realized she wanted to understand Heath Sterling more.

Understand the boy who risked his life to save her twice.

If the nine years of Julian Sinclair’s care and affection were a lie, then Heath Sterling’s twice risking his life to save her was definitely not another deception.

"Moira?" Heath was at a loss where to place his hands and feet under Moira Young’s gaze, subconsciously thinking Moira had been feverish to the point of silliness.

Heath knew Moira Young didn’t like him; he knew that Julian Sinclair surely occupied a place in her heart. Being straightforward in nature, Heath couldn’t fathom Moira’s thoughts at all.

"If you really don’t want to—" Heath tightened at the tear that slid from her eye, thinking she was unwilling. A bit upset with himself for being so rash, he assumed he had displeased her.

"I want to," Moira Young agreed without hesitation.

If it had been before, she would never have agreed, because she wanted to maintain distance from Heath, not wanting to be the target of others’ disdain and a thorn in everyone’s side. She just wanted to live quietly, being an unnoticed invisible person.

But after facing despair once more, she just wanted to be herself within her limited lifetime.

Heath Sterling was taken aback, then smiled happily, a bit excited, "Great, as long as you’re willing. Then, can I pick you up for school from now on? It’s more convenient for me to drive."

Moira Young didn’t know that Heath actually slept very late every night. Getting up early to accompany her to class was already challenging. If he had to get up even earlier to pick her up, it would really push him to his limits.

But he was willing.

"No need. It must be tiring for you to come and pick me up from school and then go back. I can take a taxi myself." Moira Young looked at him, her voice somewhat weak.

"I’m your driver, you know. Have you gone silly from the fever?" Heath suddenly frowned, reaching out to touch Moira Young’s forehead, seriously contemplating, but couldn’t determine if she still had a fever.

Though Moira was resistant to being physically touched, she chose to accept Heath Sterling, deciding to adapt rather than escape.

Heath mumbled to himself, "I feel like the fever’s gone..."

Heath withdrew his hand, but seeing Moira Young still staring at him with those captivating eyes, he couldn’t take it and pressed the nurse call button, murmuring, "Really made silly by the fever."

The young nurse walked in, frequently glancing at Heath Sterling. Amused, Heath teased her, "Do I have a needle mark on my face or what? Why are you looking at me?"

"Handsome boy, are you some celebrity?" The young nurse looked at Heath eagerly.

"I’m not a celebrity, I’m a space star," Heath said with a serious face.

Moira Young couldn’t help but laugh, weak and exhausted as she was, she still chuckled.

The young nurse glared at him, "So childish!"

Heath hadn’t expected that something he said could make Moira laugh. He then remembered why he called the nurse, "Can you check my girlfriend’s—"

"You want a temperature check for your girlfriend, right?" The young nurse took out the thermometer and checked Moira Young’s temperature.

"She’s not my girlfriend, just a good friend. You heard wrong," Heath Sterling raised an eyebrow, a smile tugging at his lips, but deep down, he hoped others would think of Moira as his girlfriend.

"Best friends, huh?" The young nurse had a gossipy expression, "There’s no such thing as pure friendship between men and women, only fools believe that!"

Then she read the thermometer and said, "Thirty-six point seven, no fever. Hospital rooms are in great demand, so go home if there’s no problem."

Heath was a bit skeptical, "Really no fever?" He took the thermometer to check it himself.

"She’s already had medicine and an injection, just needs rest at home," the young nurse said, then left.

Heath helped Moira sit up, "Can you walk? If not, I’ll carry you."

Moira nodded, "I can walk."

Heath worriedly helped her get out of bed, cautiously taking each step forward, but they were moving too slowly. Being impatient, Heath simply picked Moira up and carried her out of the hospital toward his car.

Moira’s face suddenly flushed, instinctively seeking the safety she felt when Heath saved her, but she couldn’t feel any familiar presence.

As if the person who carried her out of the fire wasn’t him.

Heath carried her into the car, covered her with his jacket, and drove her to his house.

It was already five in the morning, the sky gradually lightening, and it took about twenty minutes to reach Heath’s house, a small villa.

Heath helped Moira out of the car, "Don’t mind that my house is small, after all, land in Aleridia is expensive, and my prize money could only afford this much."

"You’re already very impressive. I really admire you," Moira admitted sincerely.

When they were in high school, Heath’s grades were always at the bottom, often skipping school, fighting, and mixing with society. He was seen by teachers and parents as the quintessential bad boy, doomed to a future of failure.

However, the current Heath was someone who could support himself through his own efforts, idolized by countless girls as a distant star.

And she, apart from selling the bags Julian Sinclair gave her, could do nothing else.

"That’s the first time you’ve praised me. I always thought you saw me as irresponsible," Heath said, helping Moira into the bedroom, pulling out a fresh T-shirt from the closet. His racing circle was quite trendy, collecting brand-name clothing and shoes, so many were unworn.

"It’s new. Change into it after you shower, so you can sleep more comfortably."

"By the way, once you’re rested, I’ll take you to the dorm to pack your things and move completely, staying away from Thea Thorne."

Heath yawned after speaking, showing fatigue, "Rest well, I’ll head out."

Moira Young was a bit worried about him, since he was injured and hadn’t slept all night. Driving tired was not safe.

"Heath—" Moira called after him, "Sleep here first."

Heath didn’t see any issue sleeping here, his mindset open, but he worried it might scare Moira away.

"You don’t mind?" Heath yawned again, his eyes red.

"Heath, this is your home..." Moira wrinkled her small nose and held the T-shirt He gave her, "I want to take a soak. You go ahead and sleep."

"Alright."
