Sweet Wife So Charming: CEO: Hold Back Your Heart-Chapter 212: Agreement
Before Fiona’s father could speak, Fiona Rhodes quickly spoke into the phone, feigning sweetness, "Dad! I’ve been trying for so long, but he just won’t agree! I’m really at my wit’s end!"
Then, Fiona’s father said, "Julian, that’s not right of you. No matter how busy things get, you still have to eat!"
"Sorry, Uncle—"
"Hey, Julian, are you looking down on the Rhodes family now that you’re the head of The Sinclair Group? I’ll tell you, the Rhodes family might be a step below the Sinclair family, but if anyone can call themselves your equal, it’s us!" Fiona’s father pretended to be angry to back Fiona up.
Fiona couldn’t hear the conversation on the other end of the phone, so she tried to discern something from Julian Sinclair’s expression. However, Julian’s perfectly chiseled features remained as indifferent as ever, devoid of any emotions that could be captured.
Julian Sinclair was indeed Julian Sinclair. Even though they grew up together, no one could truly understand his thoughts.
Fiona was quite nervous; she feared that her father wouldn’t be able to persuade Julian.
"Uncle, you misunderstand," Julian said coolly.
"So, would you be willing to come over for a simple dinner tonight?"
Julian hesitated for a moment, not wanting to go. But having already fled from a wedding before, it wouldn’t look good if he embarrassed her father now.
"Alright, Uncle, I’ll come over soon."
"That’s more like it. Hurry up, we’re all waiting for you two."
With that, they hung up the phone.
When Fiona heard that Julian agreed to come over for dinner, she felt that her father, in the end, was her father. A few words solved it all, while she was still too inexperienced.
"So, Julian, what did my dad say?" Fiona looked at him with anticipation.
Julian closed the file and stood up, "As you wished."
Fiona immediately rushed over to cling to Julian’s arm, "Really! That’s great!"
Julian, feigning casualness, reached for his suit jacket and smoothly withdrew his arm from Fiona’s grasp.
Fiona knew this was just the beginning. She wasn’t in a hurry; everything had to be taken step by step. As long as he agreed to her once, he could agree countless times.
Once he gave her a chance, he’d have to give her countless chances.
Tonight, she had to know whether Julian Sinclair still remembered Moira Young. If he did, there was one plan; if he didn’t, there was another.
The ultimate goal was only one thing: to obtain Julian Sinclair by any means necessary.
Fiona had driven over, hoping to drive Julian back with her, but Julian silently got into his own car, with the driver responsible for the driving.
Fiona simply left her car there and followed Julian into his car.
"Julian, you seem to have lost quite a bit of weight recently. When you were a child, you loved the fish soup my mom made. If she knows you’re coming over to eat, she’ll definitely cook it for you." Fiona tested the waters again.
She knew that Julian had loved his mother’s fish soup from a young age, but ever since his mother passed away, he had grown to hate fish soup.
Julian pretended not to hear, knowing that saying more would be wrong.
He refused to answer topics he was unaware of.
Seeing this approach didn’t work, Fiona gave up on continuing.
Upon arriving at the Rhodes family’s place, it was quite late and both of Fiona’s brothers were home.
"Julian is here, quick, everyone’s waiting for you," Fiona’s father called, pointing to the dining area. "Come on, let’s have a drink."
"Dad, what about us? You can’t play favorites!" Her second brother brought out their father’s treasured wine.
"You two rascals, go away!"
The second brother rolled his eyes and walked over to Fiona, complaining, "At least he has two sons. If dad only had you, he might treat little Julian like his own son!"
Fiona couldn’t help but laugh, knowing her second brother was kidding. "Dad’s been treating Julian like his own son for a while now!"
Julian heard clearly but pretended not to notice.
Everyone took their seats, with Fiona’s father at the head, Fiona sitting beside Julian.
Her father looked at the pair before him and couldn’t help but think they were a perfect match, especially because no one could match the Sinclair family except the Rhodes family. Who besides his daughter, he wondered, could be worthy of Julian Sinclair?
"Julian, how’s your health recently? Why did you suddenly decide to return to the country without a word?" The eldest brother spoke first; he was always measured and knew his limits.
"There were many things waiting for me to handle back home, so I returned first." Julian’s words were brief but polite.
"The Sinclair Group has businesses in every country, Julian, focusing too much on China isn’t good." Fiona’s father chimed in.
"You’re right, Uncle." Julian lowered his gaze slightly, acknowledging.
The eldest brother exchanged a glance with Fiona’s father and continued, "When do you plan to return to Vesperia for good?"
"Once I’ve dealt with things in China, I’ll return."
"Julian, what else is there that you haven’t dealt with in China?" Fiona grasped his arm, asking.
Julian didn’t even glance at Fiona, calmly pulling away, unconcerned if the Rhodes family noticed this detail.
"Many things." Julian’s two words answered the question.
Fiona’s father cleared his throat, "Julian, I heard that you went to attend the Sinclair family meeting this time?"
"Yes." Julian nodded slightly.
"May I know the meeting’s content..."
"Uncle, the content of internal family meetings must be kept confidential. I’m sure you understand this better than I do." Julian’s remark was a clear indicator for Fiona’s father not to pursue the matter further.
The secrecy of the Rhodes family’s internal meetings was perhaps even stricter than that of the Sinclair’s, yet Julian didn’t voice this thought, offering Fiona’s father some face.
A little flustered, Fiona’s father’s face fell a bit, but the eldest brother helped ease the situation, "Julian, we’re concerned about you and my sister’s future after all. Now that you’re both of a significant age, while some of your brothers in the Sinclair family are still unmarried, most have settled down."
"Moreover, you’re now the head of The Sinclair Group, surely you need someone to be your supportive partner."
The eldest brother’s words were simple and laid-back, yet this was a topic Julian couldn’t avoid.
"It’s still early." As Julian said these words, a subtly intriguing light flashed in his eyes but quickly disappeared, making the eldest brother think he imagined it.
It was better that the eldest brother didn’t bring it up, as it reminded Julian Sinclair.
He did need someone to be his Mrs. Sinclair, but that person was definitely not Fiona Rhodes. 𝓯𝙧𝙚𝒆𝙬𝙚𝒃𝙣𝙤𝒗𝓮𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢
The first person to pop into Julian’s mind was Moira Young, who, despite hating and detesting him, would still instinctively call him Uncle when she was helpless.
But she’s still young, so it’s still early.
No one could truly grasp what Julian meant by "it’s still early," not even Fiona could have thought of Moira in this context.
