Sweet Wife So Charming: CEO: Hold Back Your Heart-Chapter 141: The Crucial Moment
More importantly, Julian Sinclair hasn’t woken up yet, and the wedding hasn’t been completed. So, will The Sinclair Group’s power ultimately be handed over to him?
Fiona Rhodes’ phone rang; it was her father calling, "Hello, Dad."
"Where are you?"
"I’m at the hospital."
"Come back first for a meeting." Her father was calling for a family meeting.
Fiona hung up the phone after responding and took a deep look at Julian Sinclair lying on the bed before leaving.
Back at the Rhodes family home, her father sat on the sofa with a serious expression; this meeting was very important.
"Dad, I’m back." Fiona sat beside her two brothers, feeling the atmosphere was so oppressive, something seemed off. She tugged at her second brother’s sleeve and whispered, "Second Brother, what’s going on?"
Her second brother curled his lips, "At a crucial moment like this, what else could be happening?"
Her father coughed twice and spoke, "Fiona, is there any sign that Julian is waking up?"
Fiona lowered her eyes, "No."
"The preparation for transferring The Sinclair Group’s power is completed, but Julian remains unconscious. In your opinion, who will The Sinclair Group’s power ultimately fall to?" Her father asked.
"I don’t know." Fiona and her second brother said in unison.
Her eldest brother said, "Dad, I think it might be Zayne Sinclair."
"Why do you think it’s him?"
"Dad, think about it, those in the Sinclair family have been competing for years, except for Zayne who is still young; the others have settled down and married, having no interest in fighting for The Sinclair Group’s power anymore." Her eldest brother analyzed, "Besides, Zayne always likes to compete with Julian for everything, something even our Rhodes family is aware of. How could Zayne possibly pass up such a good opportunity now?"
Her father was deep in thought; previously, Zayne was focused on competing with Julian for the inheritance right, but was later heavily suppressed by Julian.
"Fiona, you have always been close to Zayne, do you think it’s possible?" Her eldest brother asked.
Fiona was stunned and refuted, "When have I ever been close to him? How could you say that? Speak with your conscience, don’t talk nonsense."
"Enough with the tantrum, this is a critical moment, extremely important. When the inheritance right is uncertain, didn’t I always ask you to maintain contact with Zayne?" Her father frowned.
Fiona pouted unhappily, "Maintaining contact doesn’t mean being close."
She was now avoiding this issue because she had a previous incident with Zayne; though it happened when she was drunk, it became a lever for Zayne, causing her to reluctantly help him a lot.
"Now you must continue to interact with Zayne. Your eldest brother’s analysis makes some sense; if Zayne becomes the heir, you must find a way to marry him."
Fiona absolutely didn’t want to do this; her father wanted her close to Julian, which was tolerable since she had feelings for Julian. But what was Zayne worth?
"Dad, what do you take me for? Even if Zayne inherits The Sinclair Group’s power, I can’t marry him! In outsiders’ eyes, I am now a woman unwanted by Julian; if I then marry Zayne, wouldn’t it be clear to the world that I, Fiona Rhodes, am a woman chasing The Sinclair Group’s power? In other words, do you think Zayne would want to marry Julian’s discarded bride?"
Her two brothers and father fell silent.
"Fiona, no matter what others say, you must prioritize our family, put the family first." Her father coughed several times, speaking earnestly, "Look, it’s not just for the Rhodes family; if you become the wife of The Sinclair Group’s heir, you’ll have a good life yourself."
Fiona didn’t want to hear any of this and was very impatient, "Dad, you can let me marry anyone, but not Zayne!"
"Why? What’s wrong with him?"
"I could marry anyone except him!" Fiona firmly asserted.
Her father, annoyed, felt a blockade in his heart, "I now command you to approach Zayne; I have your best interests at heart. You are not allowed to be willful and cause trouble anymore! You are already in your late twenties, yet you only know how to go out for tea and shopping with your friends; what can I even hope for from you?"
Fiona’s eyes turned red; her father rarely scolded her, "Dad, are you angry with me?"
Her father frowned, looking exhausted. He steadied himself and spoke after a while, "Call Zayne and invite him to dinner at our home."
Fiona didn’t want to make the call, but with no other choice, both her elder and second brothers sided with her father, leaving her alone on the opposite side, utterly outnumbered.
About an hour later, Zayne Sinclair arrived.
He remembered the last time he came, he had difficulty entering the house and was more or less thrown out when leaving. Today, however, things were different; the sun must be rising from the west since the Rhodes family actually invited him.
Zayne entered the Rhodes family home, with her eldest brother coming up to greet him, "Zayne, feeling tired from the road? Sit down and have some tea."
"Tell me what you want for dinner, and I’ll have my mom make it for you; you know how good her cooking is."
Zayne was pulled over to a seat on the sofa, and her father personally served tea to him, "Zayne, here’s some tea."
He appeared to be calm on the surface but was inwardly elated.
"Zayne, what have you been busy with lately?" Her father took a long time to think of this opening sentence.
"Uncle Rhodes, I’m not busy with anything; just helping some of the elders in the family." Zayne intentionally said this, but in reality, he was just wandering around in front of the elders at The Sinclair Group every day, essentially trying to make his presence known.
Now that Julian is as good as dead, there’s a 99% chance that The Sinclair Group’s power will change hands. He must seize this moment.
He once thought he had no chance at all, but unexpectedly, his quick-thinking once again brought him hope.
Anyway, as long as Julian’s life continues, he won’t consider it as committing fratricide.
"Oh? What’s The Sinclair Group busy with lately?" Her father was interested and even a little excited, knowing Zayne’s words obviously implied that The Sinclair Group intended to hand the power to him.
"Uncle Rhodes, this... isn’t something I can easily disclose." Zayne coolly met her father’s eyes, but he had no idea what The Sinclair Group was busy with; he couldn’t hear a thing every time he eavesdropped on their meetings.
Her father was momentarily taken aback but quickly caught on and smiled, "I understand, I understand."
"Uncle Rhodes, is there anything particular you called me here for today?" Zayne asked.
"It’s nothing urgent, just that lately you haven’t been visiting the house much, and I miss having you around." Her father said this as though it were the truth.
Zayne wouldn’t believe a word of this old man’s nonsense, but he still joked, "Is it you missing me, Uncle, or these two brothers?"
Her father’s eyes seemingly inadvertently glancing at Fiona, who sat silently to one side, couldn’t help but lightly cough a few times.
