Sweet Revenge With My Billionaire Vampire-Chapter 78: Evelyn II
She reached for the brush on the table and ran it through her hair, trying to focus on anything other than him.
She ended up spending the next fifteen minutes scrolling through her phone and very aggressively not thinking about Enzo.
But then the bathroom door swung open.
Her gaze snapped up.
Enzo stepped out, his figure framed by a small cloud of steam. He wore a white fluffy robe, loosely tied at the waist, revealing just enough of his collarbone and chest to make her feel like she should not be looking. A towel was slung over his neck, the ends hanging against his damp chest. His hair, wet from the shower, curled slightly at the ends, making it look shorter than usual.
For some damn reason, Adeline couldn’t look away. Her lips pressed into a thin line as she patted her palms nervously against her lap, trying to act casual.
Enzo caught the way she stared, and a soft chuckle slipped past his lips. He made his way over to the bed and sat down, running a hand through his damp hair. "I spoke with Andrei earlier. He’s already prepared the car that’ll take us to Vegas. He also took care of the hotel arrangements."
Adeline blinked, snapping out of her daze. She gave a small nod, but nothing more.
Enzo’s smirk faded slightly. What’s with that reaction? He had expected her to say more, maybe ask questions or throw some sarcastic remarks his way. But she just sat there, barely reacting. She looked like she was thinking about something completely different.
"Did I say something you don’t like?" He asked, tilting his head slightly to the side.
Adeline’s eyes widened as she lifted her hands, waving them quickly. "No, no! The car’s fine!"
"You sure? I mean, it’s only a two-hour drive from Libu City to Nevada, but if you’d rather fly, I can tell Andrei to book a flight instead. I just thought going by car would be more fun."
She shook her head. "No, really. The car is fine. Driving there sounds... nice."
Enzo watched her carefully. The way she was acting—nervous, fidgety, avoiding eye contact. He didn’t like it. Even he was starting to get a tiny bit awkward, and that’s never happened to him before.
With a nod, he got up and headed toward the walk-in closet, pulling the door open. As expected, it was noticeably smaller than the one they had back home, but it was still luxurious. After all, he had paid a hefty price for this hotel room, and only the best suited him. While it wasn’t the same as the one at his place or Adeline’s, it was still nothing short of extravagant.
He paused at the entrance, glancing over his shoulder at Adeline. "You should probably go shower and get ready. The driver will be here in less than three hours."
She gave a small bob of her head, and he offered her a faint smile before stepping inside the closet, shutting the door behind him.
Adeline sighed, pushing herself up from the chair. She was about to head to the bathroom when her phone suddenly rang, the loud vibration startling her slightly.
She stopped mid-step, glancing at the screen. Evelyn.
Swiping the screen, she lifted the phone to her ear. "Hey, Ev—"
"ADELINE!" Evelyn’s voice screamed through the speaker. "Where the hell are you? I went by your place earlier, and your uncles said you left with your fiancé. Since when do you and Enzo go on secret vacations?! Where are you? What’s going on?!"
Adeline winced, pulling the phone slightly away from her ear at the sheer volume of Evelyn’s voice. She had been so caught up in everything that had happened that she hadn’t even thought to update her on their current move. About everything, really. She didn’t even let her know she left the city with Enzo.
She glanced toward the closet door Enzo had disappeared behind, hesitation creeping in.
She knew Enzo wasn’t fully comfortable with the idea of telling Evelyn too much, but he had given her the go-ahead before. Since Evelyn already knew most of what was happening, there was no point in hiding the rest.
And besides, Evelyn had been her best friend since childhood—practically family at this point. If there was anyone she could trust, it was her. 𝙧𝙚𝙚𝔀𝒆𝓫𝓷𝙤𝓿𝒆𝙡.𝒄𝙤𝓶
Sitting back down in the chair, she took a deep breath before speaking. "We’re in Libu City. A lot has happened since the last time we saw each other."
Evelyn’s voice came through almost immediately, full of curiosity. "I’m all ears."
As Adeline filled her in, the closet door opened behind her.
Enzo stepped out, now dressed in black suit pants and a white dress shirt. This time, he had chosen not to wear a jacket, the sleeves of his shirt slightly rolled up. His hair was still slightly tousled from his shower, adding a weirdly attractive look.
His gaze landed on Adeline, who was too caught up in her conversation to notice him. Deciding not to interrupt, he quietly made his way to the bed and sat down, resting his hands on his thighs as he waited for her to finish.
When the call finally ended, Adeline set down her phone and stood up, turning around—only to flinch when she saw Enzo sitting there, watching her.
"Oh my!" She exclaimed, her hand instinctively gripping the back of the chair. "When did you get in here?"
"A few moments ago," he said. "I’m guessing that was Evelyn you were talking with?"
She nodded. "Yeah. I told her everything." She hesitated before asking. "That’s... alright, right?"
His expression didn’t change, but there was a slight shift in his posture. He still didn’t fully trust Evelyn—not in the same way Adeline did. It wasn’t anything personal or that he thought she’d betray them. It was just his nature to be cautious.
Still, Evelyn was Adeline’s best friend, and if Adeline trusted her, he had no choice but to accept it.
