Chapter 124: The Truth Always Found A Way Of Surfacing 124

Vincent had figured it would happen eventually. The truth always found a way of surfacing, no matter how carefully one tried to keep it buried. What he hadn’t expected, however, was how entertaining this entire ordeal would turn out to be.

From that moment on, he had been observing them as if they were main characters in some intriguing show.

With Damien away from the castle for a while, Vincent had far more freedom to enter the human world often, allowing him to indulge in Adeline and Enzo’s little spectacle.

Now, as he stood hidden outside the mansion, he watched as Enzo and Andrei moved, leaving the office and disappearing from his view.

Lowering the binoculars, Vincent clicked his tongue against the roof of his mouth in mild disappointment before carelessly tossing the device into a nearby carved bush.

He began to shift and his body shrank, his limbs disappearing as his skin darkened and stretched into thin, leathery wings. He transformed into his bat form, and with a flap of his wings, he shot up into the air.

Adeline stood in front of the tall mirror at around 8 p.m., giving herself one final glance after finishing getting ready. She hadn’t put much effort into her appearance but looked breathtaking nonetheless. She had opted for simple blue jeans, a plain white T-shirt, and white sneakers.

Her hair cascaded down her back in loose waves, and she tucked a few strands behind her ear before exhaling slowly. "Alright," she muttered to herself, nodding at her reflection.

She turned away from the mirror and walked over to the bedside table, picking up her phone and car keys before heading for the door.

She moved down into the garage and approached the car, unlocking it with a quick press of a button. In response, the vehicle’s lights flashed, and she climbed inside, settling into the driver’s seat. After ensuring her seatbelt was securely fastened, she started the engine.

As she drove towards the estate’s gates, Evans, Alfonso, and Richard rushed into the garage at the same time. Evans and Richard climbed into one car, while Alfonso got into another, both vehicles revving to life as they trailed after her, keeping a careful distance.

Adeline focused on the road ahead, her fingers tapping nervously against the steering wheel. She waited until she was nearly halfway to Enzo’s estate before reaching for her earbuds. Stuffing them into her ears, she grabbed her phone from the passenger seat, quickly dialing his number before tossing the device back onto the seat.

The screen switched from "Calling..." to "Ringing," and almost immediately, Enzo answered, his voice coming through as if he had been staring at his phone all day, waiting for it to ring.

"Adeline."

"I’ll be there in less than ten minutes," she told him.

"Alright," he responded. "I’ll be waiting."

Just as she clicked her earbuds to end the call, bright headlights flashed in her rearview mirror, shining directly into her eyes and momentarily blinding her. A loud honk followed, blaring aggressively in the quiet night.

Her brows furrowed as she blinked against the light, slowing down slightly to see what was going on. The road was empty except for her, which meant whoever was honking had to be honking at her.

She glanced at the mirror again, gasping when another car suddenly surged past the one behind her, accelerating aggressively before cutting in front of her.

The tires screeched against the asphalt as the car came to an abrupt halt right in front of her, forcing her to slam her foot down on the brakes to avoid crashing into it.

Acting on instinct, she shifted the gears to reverse, but before she could move, the car that had been behind her sped forward and stopped just inches away from her bumper, blocking her escape.

The first thought that crossed her mind was to lock the doors, and the second was to call Enzo.

Her fingers scrambled for her phone, swiping across the screen to unlock it when a sudden bang against her side mirror made her flinch violently.

Her gaze snapped up, a short gasp escaping her lips when she saw Evans and Richard standing directly in front of her car, their faces devoid of any warmth.

Evans had a gun raised, the barrel aimed straight at her. She darted a gaze at the rearview mirror, spotting Alfonso standing near the trunk.

Slowly, Evans inched closer to the vehicle, tilting his head and gesturing with the gun in a silent command for her to release the phone. Seeing as there was no way out, she tossed the device back onto the seat beside her. 𝐟𝚛𝕖𝚎𝕨𝗲𝐛𝚗𝐨𝐯𝐞𝕝.𝐜𝗼𝗺

Raising both hands in surrender, she watched as Evans reached for the door handle and motioned for her to unlock it.

Just as she clicked the button, he yanked the door open and grabbed her roughly by the arm, pulling her out. "Don’t try any funny shit," he whispered before shoving her toward Richard, who immediately seized her.

Evans stooped down, his hand swiftly reaching into the car to grab her phone. He then pocketed the device before leaning against the car, taking out his own phone, and beginning to dial a number.

Adeline’s hands throbbed under Richard’s surprisingly strong grip, but she refused to let the pain show. She stood still, her expression blank as she stared at Evans.

The call connected, and Evans let out a triumphant laugh before speaking. "Is the place ready? We’re coming."

The voice on the other end answered, though Adeline couldn’t make out what was being said.

With a satisfied nod, Evans ended the call and slipped his phone back into his pocket. He gave a nod to his brothers before sliding into the driver’s seat of Adeline’s car and maneuvering it off to the side to clear the path for Alfonso’s vehicle. Once done, he got out, locked it, and walked over to Richard, gripping Adeline’s arm tightly and yanking her away from him.

He dragged her roughly toward the car before opening the backseat door and shoving her inside.

She landed awkwardly on her back, her body slamming against the seat."So, no more of the nice uncle act, huh?" she thought as the door slammed shut.
