Surviving in the Beast World with a System-Chapter 187: Feeling Great
Watching the Pure Humans start tidying up their grass nests again, Wu Yue couldn’t help but admire them.
Lunch was served at the home of a Pure Human family whose house was under construction.
Surprisingly, it was a Pure Human family that had meat, even though it smelled a little off.
But for tribespeople who rarely had access to meat, it was an incredibly high-class meal.
Wu Yue was still a bit surprised when the Pure Human woman brought out the meat. After all, she hadn’t seen a creature like a chicken since arriving in this world.
What the woman held in her hand was clearly half a chicken.
They used a sharpened stone knife to cut the chicken into roughly equal-sized pieces.
Wu Yue was given a piece from the belly. The woman smiled shyly. "Yue, this piece has no bones. It’s for you."
Looking at the piece of meat, which wasn’t even as big as a child’s fist, Wu Yue carefully took it, wrapped it in a leaf, and tucked it into her clothes, earning a puzzled look from the woman.
Winking at her, Wu Yue chuckled. "It’s a rare treat to get meat. I’ll make some vegetable buns to go with it tonight."
Seeing how much she cherished the food she’d been given, the woman broke into a happy smile.
"This little rascal! How could you throw away a bone?"
The woman had just turned away, beaming, when her smile instantly vanished, replaced by a flash of anger at the sight before her.
Her son had just thrown a chicken bone on the ground.
The woman walked over angrily, gave the little boy a smack on the bottom, and scolded him for not treasuring his food.
The man beside her smiled and picked up the bone. Then, as the little boy watched with an aggrieved look, he crushed it between his teeth with a loud CRUNCH, CRUNCH and swallowed it down, a look of bliss on his face. "You can eat the bones, too. Don’t throw them away next time, understand?"
The little boy stared in awe at his Father’s... teeth.
’He’d only thrown the bone away because he couldn’t chew through it. If he had teeth like his Father, could he eat such tasty food too?’
Being looked at with such adoration by his son, the man instantly felt his spirits soar, and all the day’s fatigue vanished.
He let out a hearty laugh and ruffled the little boy’s head. "You’ll be able to eat them when you’re older."
With that, he smacked his lips in enjoyment. "The bones are way tastier than the meat."
A pang of sadness hit Wu Yue as she watched. Suddenly, the slightly off-smelling piece of chicken tucked in her clothes felt incredibly heavy.
Whether it was because of the chicken they’d eaten, the men worked with exceptional vigor that afternoon.
Wu Yue took a look around. Only the roof was left to be put on. All the materials were ready, so the rest could be left to the Beastmen.
She wandered over to where the women were preparing food.
To Wu Yue’s surprise, the woman had taken out another half a chicken.
"Just some wild vegetable buns will be fine for dinner. You should save this meat for your little one."
Wu Yue’s voice came from behind her. The woman turned, scratching her head in embarrassment. "My partner’s Amu brought this over today. She said it’s for the tribespeople who are building the house."
"My partner’s Father and Amu are both Half beastman Warriors."
Wu Yue was speechless.
’So that’s what it was.’ Wu Yue had figured it out over the last few days. It really was different when you had connections. As long as you had Beastman or Half beastman relatives, you were always guaranteed some meat when your house was being built.
That was why the men, who had previously thought that being chosen for construction duty would interfere with their own gathering and hunting, were now all pleased as punch.
