Chapter 363: Entering The Rebellious Stage

Under normal circumstances, in the case of the demise of a once-breathing being, their corpse would be disposed of, most commonly cremated.

However, Charlotte was having none of that. After her mental state managed to recover to some extent, she, alongside Scarlett, took care to bury Betty’s body in the place where they had once played catch when the dog had been healthy.

Staying silent for a minute to pay their respect, Charlotte heaved a sigh.

"So what am I supposed to do now? Just sit on the ground, meditate, and magically become a cultivator?" Her voice appeared exhausted.

"Although those are the basics, without the proper teachings, you will just be wasting your time." Scarlett explained.

She had once been in Charlotte’s place. Who would have imagined that she’d become the teacher so soon?

"First and foremost, to reap the most benefits, you will need to have a specific goal in mind, a motivator of sorts. What would you want to achieve after acquiring power?"

Charlotte’s eyes darkened.

"I will kill Maverick... No, torture him as painfully as possible. He, along with every member of the Black Vultures, whose constant harassment is the reason I failed to gather enough funds in time, leading to Betty’s death... Maybe once I slaughter them all, I will focus on helping those in a similar situation as me."

She paused briefly.

"But taking lives will be my driving purpose... enacting my own sense of justice." She declared with unwavering determination.

Scarlett observed Charlotte’s crimson gaze. It strongly reminded her of Michael.

Vengeance, all things considered, was one of the most dangerous motivations a person could have. More often than not, it left them feeling hollow at the end of their journey.

However... it was also the most effective driving force there was. Allowing most to reach seemingly impossible heights, Michael being a prime example.

"Okay, this will do." Scarlett nodded in approval.

It was certainly bizarre...Despite coming from completely different backgrounds, the two girls found a measure of solace in each other. Was it because they owed their lives to one another, or because they had cried in each other’s arms?

They had known each other for barely a day, yet a certain bond of unwavering trust had formed between them. One that would normally blossom only between friends over many years.

After Betty’s death, nothing tied them down. Driven by a desire to see the underground city for herself, Scarlett set out with her companion to explore the colony.

Though before their journey could officially begin, Scarlett knew she had to contact her brother and reassure him she was all right

Considering his overprotective nature, he was most likely getting ready to march through the underground cities, burning everything in his path just to ensure her safety.

Truthfully, she wasn’t too far off the mark...

At the same time, panic and chaos had spread through the ranks of the Indomitable Alliance.

Their mascot, their Goddess, Michael’s and by extension the faction’s little sister had been kidnapped!

Heads were going to be rolling today!

To make matters worse, their leader was nowhere to be seen! After the interrogation of the primary suspect, Michael had disappeared to who knows where.

Before things could descend into pure insanity, Michael made his way to the faction’s headquarters, a little blood staining his attire.

"Michael, did you hear?!" Isabella hugged her son, fearing the worst might have happened to her precious daughter.

Dark circles were visible under his eyes.

Screw the tournament and every procedure there was to be followed in a situation such as this!

He was ready to rally up the members of his faction and bring hell and beyond to the underground colony, all in the search for Scarlett! For if even a single strand of her hair was missing, he was ready to conduct the biggest massacre humanity had ever witnessed!

Burning the entire world was but a small price to pay for the sake of his family and loved ones.

"Relax a little, will you?" Devil reasoned with a wide grin.

"She is your sister. She carries your blood. Add on top my and your training, which she has absorbed like a sponge hungry for knowledge, and I bet that nothing could harm her."

Understandably, Michael was having none of that. Just when he was about to give the order to forfeit the tournament, he received a call from an unsaved number on his communication device.

After accepting, a holographic image of Scarlett appeared. Instantly, his killing intent, which had been leaking out like an unstoppable ocean, calmed down.

His sister was alive.

"Scarlett?" He didn’t miss that her clothes were different. Rather than wearing her usual attire, she wore significantly cheaper ones.

"Are you okay? What happened? Where are you? Don’t move, I am coming to get you!"

Instantly, he swarmed her with questions, getting ready to depart at a moment’s notice.

An awkward smile spread across Scarlett’s face as she fiddled with her hair.

Her emerald eyes enlarged like priceless gems, sparkling in pure innocence and affection, deploying her puppy eyes.

Instantly, Michael got a bad feeling his sister was about to want something, and all signs pointed to it being unreasonable beyond measure.

"Um... Brother?" She asked in a somewhat timid voice.

"Yes?" Michael arched an eyebrow, his voice stoic.

"I know that you are worried and so is Mom. Not to mention everyone in the faction has been so nice and welcoming all this time..."

She took a deep breath.

"But I fear that I have been... sheltered far too much. To the point that I don’t really know how tough life for the average folk is out there. You might have seen far worse in your fight against the aliens and what they have done to our kind, but I am not the same."

Slowly, fire ignited in her vision, mirroring her brother’s determination.

"I want to be able to stand by your side. But to achieve that, I need to grow up. Not just physically, but mentally... So I want to remain in the underground colony and help the less fortunate, all while searching for myself!"

Michael’s breathing hitched. The inevitable day he loathed had finally arrived.

His little sister... had entered the rebellious stage of her teenage life!

"All things considered, I can take care of myself. So please, please, please! Don’t make me go back!" She pleaded, clasping her hands together, bowing deeply.

"Hell no!" Michael declared, with a stern expression.

"Absolutely yes!" Devil countered with a wide smile, having listened to the entire conversation up to that point.
