Kael was awakened by a loud sound echoing throughout the penthouse, interrupting his sleep. A firm and authoritative voice reverberated through the magical communication system installed in the dormitory.

"Attention, first-year students. The opening ceremony will begin soon. All students must present themselves properly dressed in the Grand Auditorium within the next thirty minutes. Repeating..."

He let out a heavy sigh, running a hand over his face. "Damn... this early?"

Still half-asleep, he sat up in bed, feeling his body protest against the interrupted rest. The room was still immersed in darkness, but he knew he couldn't afford to laze around.

Before he could fully get up, Umbra materialized beside him, floating lazily.

"Good morning, sleepyhead! Ready to mingle with a bunch of stuck-up rich kids?"

Kael ignored the comment and got up, stretching quickly. "Do I have a choice?"

On the other side of the penthouse, he heard the sound of doors slamming and hurried footsteps. Amelia had probably woken up from the announcement as well.

"I bet she's still in shock about the dorm situation..." Umbra murmured, laughing. "Or maybe still thinking about our... detailed analysis... of her underwear."

Kael rolled his eyes and walked into the bathroom to get ready. The day had just begun, and he already knew it wouldn't be peaceful.

A few minutes later...

Kael stepped out of the bathroom, drying his hair, a towel wrapped around his waist, his skin still damp from the hot shower. He didn't expect to run into anyone, but as soon as he took a few steps outside, he came face-to-face with Amelia.

She stopped dead in her tracks, her wide eyes fixed on his defined chest. A deep blush spread across her face, and her mouth opened slightly, but no sound came out.

For a few seconds, she just stood there, frozen, as if her brain was struggling to process the scene.

Kael arched an eyebrow. "Want to take a picture?"

Amelia swallowed hard and quickly turned her face away, squeezing her eyes shut. "W-Why the hell are you walking around like that?! Get dressed properly, you exhibitionist!"

"I just got out of the shower. What did you expect? I left my dimensional ring in the room," he replied, unfazed.

She opened her mouth to retort but closed it again. No matter how hard she tried to look away, her gaze kept drifting back to his exposed chest. The droplets of water slowly trickling down his tanned skin weren't helping her situation at all.

And then...

"Ohh, I felt that." Umbra's teasing voice echoed in Kael's mind. "She got hotter than a bonfire. If I were visible, I bet I'd see a certain... sparkle in her eyes."

Kael ignored the shadow's provocation, but the faint smirk on his lips didn't escape Amelia's notice, making her blush even harder.

"J-Just get dressed already! We need to go to the ceremony!" she blurted out, practically running away, almost tripping over her own feet.

Kael chuckled quietly, watching her rush off.

"Well, at least she didn't scream this time."

Umbra spun in the air, laughing. "She didn't scream, but if she had stayed another second, she might've started drooling."

Kael just shook his head and went back to his room, ready to get dressed. The day was starting with some unexpected fun.

Kael dressed quickly, opting for something simple yet comfortable: a black, lightweight, form-fitting shirt and reinforced dark combat pants. He secured his sword at his waist and left the room, finding Amelia in the living area, still slightly flushed but trying to act normal.

She crossed her arms and cast him a sideways glance. "We're not going to be late because of you, right?"

Kael smirked. "Relax, princess. We've got time."

She huffed but didn't argue.

Kael and Amelia descended together in the elevator of the penthouse down to the building's grand hall, where dozens of other students were already heading toward the opening ceremony. Azalith University was one of the most prestigious on the continent, and now Kael could see the grandeur of the place up close. Imposing hallways, decorated with noble house crests and magical floating chandeliers overhead.

The corridor leading to the auditorium was chaos. Hundreds of students were squeezing past one another, bumping into each other in a sea of murmurs and hurried footsteps. The heat and agitation only made the passage more claustrophobic.

"This is going to take hours..." Amelia muttered, clearly annoyed by the constant jostling and elbowing.

Kael watched as a group of more impatient students pushed their way through, nearly knocking her over. Without thinking twice, he grabbed her hand and pulled her close, firmly.

"You're going to hurt yourself." His voice was direct, without hesitation. He wasn't the type to talk much when he could act.

Amelia froze for a second, feeling the heat of his hand against hers. Her face flushed slightly, but she didn't complain, simply lowering her head a little, allowing him to guide her through the chaos.

Umbra, floating beside Kael, chuckled softly. "And you were the one saying you didn't care about her?"

Kael ignored the comment and kept moving, clearing a path through the chaos.

The flow of students in the hallway was a mess, but no one was prepared for what was about to happen.

The impatient, arrogant blond boy forced his way through, using magic to shove others aside like they were trash. He laughed disdainfully as he watched the students stumble.

When he reached behind Amelia, his acidic tone dripped with venom. "Get out of the way, slut."

Time seemed to freeze.

Kael froze for a moment. A suffocating silence fell over the hallway. Some students held their breath, others instinctively backed away.

Amelia's eyes went wide, shock written on her face.

Umbra, floating beside Kael, whispered in pure amusement. "Ohhh... now he's fucked up."

Kael slowly released Amelia's hand. His gaze turned cold, empty, devoid of any patience.

He turned to the blond boy, who noticed the change in the atmosphere but smirked, crossing his arms.

"I told this bitch to move. Any probl—"

CRACK!

Kael moved so fast the boy didn't even see it coming as Kael grabbed his face.

With inhuman strength, Kael lifted him off the ground and slammed his head into the wall with absolute brutality.

BOOOOM!

The impact was so devastating that the wall cracked violently, creating a hole with debris flying in all directions. The boy's skull emitted a horrific sound of bone cracking, and his entire body trembled from the shock.

The students around them screamed, some retreating in panic.

The whole hallway trembled.

The boy lay there, his head embedded in the wall, his body hanging like a broken puppet, blood dripping down his forehead.

But Kael wasn't done.

He grabbed the blond boy's hair and yanked him back, revealing his bloody face and eyes rolled back in pain. His nose was crushed, his teeth covered in red, and he gasped, trying to understand what had just happened.

"Say it again." Kael whispered, his fingers still gripping the boy's scalp. "I want to hear it loud and clear."

The idiot gurgled something incomprehensible, spitting out blood.

Kael threw him to the ground like trash. The boy's body bounced on the marble floor before coming to a stop, moaning in pain.

The silence was absolute. No one dared even breathe loudly.

Kael kicked the boy's motionless body aside, wiping nonexistent dust from his hands. His icy gaze swept over the terrified faces around him.

"If you can't back up your words, then stay silent." His voice sliced through the air like a blade.

Umbra laughed, floating around him like a hungry shadow. "Now THAT was satisfying!"

Without giving the worm on the ground another thought, Kael cracked his neck and took Amelia's hand again.

"Let's go."

The crowd parted like the Red Sea. No one dared block their way.

Before moving forward, Kael threw one last look at the students around them.

"Take this trash to the infirmary and tell them he tried to use magic to hurt people in the crowd. If they ask who did this to him, tell them my name." He paused briefly, as if engraving his words in everyone's minds. "Kael Scarlet."

And then he continued walking, pulling Amelia with him, without looking back.

Amelia squeezed Kael's hand harder, still processing what had just happened. Her heart was pounding, not just from the shock of the situation but also because of the way he had protected her without hesitation.

After a few seconds of silence, she finally spoke. "Kael... thank you." Her voice was low, almost hesitant.

He didn't respond immediately, just kept walking, ignoring the stares he could still feel on them.

"You don't need to thank me. I just did what anyone would do. And you could've defended yourself, right?"

She frowned and shook her head. "No, I wouldn't have. Most people here would have ignored it or pretended they didn't hear. And I... don't like using magic for that."

Kael shrugged. "Then they're a bunch of cowards."

Amelia smiled faintly, glancing at him from the corner of her eye. "Are you always like this?"

"Like how?"

"Cold, but... reliable."

Kael stopped walking for a second and sighed. "Trust is a luxury. I don't know if I'm reliable, but... I can't stand people like that."

She studied his face for a moment, as if trying to decipher something in him. In the end, she just nodded. "Anyway, I'm glad we're in the same dorm."

He raised an eyebrow. "Funny, a few hours ago you wanted to kill me for that."

Amelia immediately blushed and looked away. "I-I was surprised! It's not every day I find out I have to share a room with a man!"

Umbra laughed, floating around them. "Heh, looks like someone's starting to change their mind..."

Kael rolled his eyes but didn't say anything. He just kept walking, still holding her hand.
