Chapter 52: Selling the Spirit Stones

"Hmm?" Luke noticed his expression and snarled in rage, "What’s with that expression, bastard?!"

He was about to kick him again when the man hurriedly jumped to his feet and picked up a rock nearby, ready to smash Luke if he came closer. Luke immediately recoiled.

The man then cautiously glanced at the middle-aged man beside Luke, and seeing he was calmly standing there, showing no intention of acting against him, he sighed in relief. Luke had told him he was going to invite a warrior to kill Eric and help him kidnap Elena and Riya, so he guessed this was the warrior he was talking about and therefore, he dared not offend him.

"I’m not your servant." He said to Luke with a dark expression on his face, "I was helping you because you promised to pay me; that’s it. So, don’t you dare treat me like you own me."

Saying this, he took a deep breath and rubbed his abdomen where he was kicked, grimacing. Then he continued, "Instead of kicking me, you should have asked me what had happened. Don’t tell me you weren’t able to tell whether I was asleep or unconscious."

Luke’s expression darkened upon hearing this. He didn’t like his tone at all and glanced at the man beside him. However, seeing he didn’t seem to want to interfere, he gritted his teeth and said, "Then tell me what happened. Why aren’t they at their home?"

...

A short while later, the man finished telling him what happened. He then complained, "You never told me that guy was a warrior. If you had, I would have never agreed to watch his house. to begin with."

Luke’s expression changed when he heard this and immediately shouted, "What warrior?! He is just a commoner. Don’t make such an absurd excuse just to cover your blunder."

He didn’t want the middle-aged man beside him to believe that Eric was a warrior because he had told him that he was just an ordinary person. This was why he had agreed.

If, however, Eric turned out to be a warrior, which he believed with all his heart wasn’t the case, although this man wouldn’t kill him or even beat him up because he was in his lord’s good books after giving his sister to him and offering his mother, he would definitely become angry with him and would start targeting him, which he didn’t want because he knew, even though he had his lord’s support, the lord wouldn’t go out of his way to help him if he faced some problem.

"Then how do you explain why he was able to chase me when we were so far apart when I started running?" The man questioned.

"So you are saying if it isn’t a warrior, no one can catch up to you?" Luke sneered, which silenced the man. He then asked, "Why hasn’t your partner come?"

"I don’t know. He had told me he would come after dinner." The man shook his head. He then hesitantly asked, "So, are you going to pay—"

Swoosh!

Bang!

Crack!

However, before he could finish his sentence, the middle-aged warrior moved toward him and punched his neck, which immediately broke with a crisp crackling sound, and a moment later, he died, his lifeless body falling to the ground.

Thud!

Luke’s eyes widened in shock, and he hurriedly took a step back, looking at the middle-aged man with fear and caution.

"W-Why did you kill him, Sir Joan?" He asked, gathering his courage.

Joan casually wiped his knuckles on his shirt before glancing at him, his expression one of indifference as he said, "He dared to pick up the rock to threaten you knowing you were with me. It was an affront to me."

"Why? Do you think I shouldn’t have killed him?" He asked.

Luke hurriedly shook his head. "Of course not. Why would I think that? You did right."

"Hmm." Joan nodded lightly before asking, "So what now?"

Luke’s eyes flashed with a ruthless glint. "Didn’t he tell there was someone else present in their house? I’m pretty sure who it was. Let’s go and ask him where they are."

...

Eric arrived at the center of the market and swept his gaze across the various stores. After thinking for a while, he took a deep breath and walked toward one of the largest stores belonging to the merchants.

He knew that since the nobles were backing these merchants, he was taking a risk, but compared to going to the nobles’ stores themselves, let alone the Kroft family’s store, it wasn’t as much.

’I should just stay calm and be confident, and everything should go alright.’ He told himself as he entered the store. 𝕗𝐫𝐞𝕖𝕨𝐞𝗯𝚗𝕠𝘃𝐞𝚕.𝐜𝗼𝚖

Immediately, a young lady in the store’s uniform, green in color, that hugged her body tightly, highlighting her features, approached him. Putting her hands on her abdomen, she gently bowed and greeted him, "Good morning, sir. How may I assist you?"

Seeing she didn’t judge him, unlike the attendant from the store earlier, though he felt it was mostly because the clothes he wore were more expensive, he had a good impression of her and said, "I want to sell something. Please direct me to the person in charge here."

"Oh?" The attendant was a little surprised by his request before she said with a smile, ’Certainly, sir. But if you don’t mind, may I suggest to you to have your goods appraised by one of our professionals? If you are not satisfied with them, I can lead you to the person in charge."

’She is indeed more professional.’ Eric thought to himself as he nodded, "Sure."

"Please follow me, sir." The attendant gestured for him to follow her, and she led him to a small, private cubicle where only two chairs were placed on either side of a table.

"Please wait for a moment, sir. Someone will be with you shortly." She said before retreating from the cubicle. Eric looked around and nodded in satisfaction.

’At least no one else would know what I sold here.’ He thought,

A minute later, a cubicle’s door opened, and a well-dressed man who looked to be in his late twenties walked in and sat down in the chair across from him.

He looked at Eric up and down before saying, "Hello, sir. You can remove your mask if you want. Your identity will be kept a secret."

Eric shook his head, "No. It’s alright."

"As you wish." The man shrugged before asking, "So, what would you like to sell?"

Eric put his hand inside his robe, accessed the system inventory, took out one of the spirit stones, and placed it on the table.

Tap!

When he pulled his hand back, revealing the spirit stone, the man’s eyes narrowed in surprise for a moment before he wore a poker face. Though it was brief, Eric was paying him attention and saw it.

He grew nervous and thought, ’Don’t tell me this spirit stone is different from the spirit stones available in the market.’

"A spirit stone? May I pick it?" The man asked permission. After Eric nodded, he picked it up and felt it in his hand, brought it close to his eye, and even sniffed it.

"It’s a genuine spirit stone." He said, placing it back on the table, "You want to sell it?"

"Yes." Eric nodded.

"I understand." The man nodded and said, "The price of a low-grade spirit stone in the market is between 3000 and 5000 credits based on the quality and quantity of the spirit energy in it. Since yours is among the better quality ones, we can pay you 4000 credits."

Saying this, he looked at Eric calmly, awaiting his decision.

’4000!’ Eric was surprised and then felt excited. He could buy one kilogram of spirit stone powder from it, which would give him around 80 RE units, or 8 SPs. And since he could buy 3 spirit stones for 1 SP, that meant he could buy 24 spirit stones. In other words, he would earn 2300% profit.

Though waves of excitement rolled in his heart, his eyes, the only thing the man could see due to the mask covering his face, remained calm, giving no hint of his emotions.

Seeing he stayed silent, the man spoke up, "It’s the fair price, sir. You most likely wouldn’t get anything more than this anywhere else. But if you wish to try your luck, you are free to."

Eric shook his head. "There is no need. I will sell it for 4000."

4000 for one was enough for him, and most importantly, he wasn’t asked where he got it. If he went to another store, he couldn’t be sure they would be as professional as him.
