Supreme Devil Lord: I Can Refine All Energy-Chapter 39: Breaking the News
After knocking him unconscious, he searched around the area, trying to find the second person but didn’t find him.
Only then did he believe what the man said and return to his home, where Liam, Riya, and Elena were standing at the door, arguing.
When he looked closer, he saw Liam and Riya were trying to stop Elena, who wanted to rush away.
"Mom, don’t panic. It wasn’t the big brother’s voice." Riya said, clinging to her right arm, trying to hold her back.
"Yes, aunt. It wasn’t Eric. Please calm down." Liam agreed, holding her other arm.
Elena’s face was pale, and anxiety was clear on her face. She was about to say something when she noticed him running over and relaxed before struggling out of their grasp and rushing over and hugging him.
Thud!
She rammed heavily into his chest and hugged him tightly.
Ba-Dum! Ba-Dum!
Eric could feel her heart beating wildly against his chest and sighed, realizing those screams had worried him quite a lot even though she knew they weren’t his.
He hugged her tightly and gently caressed her back to help her calm down while thinking, ’What’s going on? Although it’s understandable she would quickly get anxious knowing what Luke is planning, but... Isn’t she reacting a little too much?’
After a short while, Elena calmed down and pulled away from him but was still holding his hands as though she was worried he would run away if she let go. She then looked him up and down.
Though she had already noticed he wasn’t injured, she couldn’t help but check again. Only after reconfirming he was indeed fine did she calm down before looking at him with an angry look on her face, "What were those screams?!"
Eric became docile seeing she was angry. In all his life, he had seen her become angry just a handful of times and knew the only way to appease her anger was to be on his best behavior and do as she said. So, he hurriedly said, "It was that guy who was keeping watch over our house. I—
"You fought with him?!" Elena became worried and instinctively wanted to check again if he was injured. Riya and Liam also had the same reaction, which made him smile bitterly.
"Don’t worry, Mom. I didn’t get injured this time." He said, making the trio sigh in relief, but then they looked at him in surprise.
The corner of his lips twitched when he saw their reaction. However, he didn’t complain about them acting like that because all these years, whenever he had any fight, he always got injured.
’Hehe, I wouldn’t get injured from now on, at least not when fighting against non-warriors.’ He felt smug inside.
Elena immediately noticed the subtle change in his expression and asked, "What is it?"
"Come inside." He smiled and started pulling her inside. "I have good news."
A short while later, the trio was sitting facing him, waiting for him to reveal what the good news was. Eric, however, didn’t immediately speak, which prompted Riya to say, "What is it? Tell us quickly."
Eric nodded before standing up and walking over to the rectangular stone that they used as a table.
He then asked, "You all know how heavy this is, right?"
"Yeah. It’s at least fifty kilograms." Riya nodded. "You and brother Liam had a hard time carrying it from the outside to inside the house."
Eric could tell she was indirectly calling him weak, but he ignored it and nodded, "You are right. Now, watch."
Saying this, he bent down, dug his finger beneath it, and then lifted it up with relative ease.
"What!" Riya and Liam exclaimed at the same time, not able to believe what they were seeing. They looked at his face closely, and seeing it didn’t even redden from the strain, they both mumbled, "How...?"
Elena also looked at him in surprise.
Eric reveled in their shock for a while. Then, he placed the stone down and announced, "I have become a warrior."
"Oh!" Riya and Liam nodded before they realized what he had said and shouted, "WHAT!!"
Elena also had a stunned expression on her face, similarly shocked by the news.
"I have become a warrior." Eric repeated, coming over and sitting in front of them.
The trio was too stunned to speak. A few moments later, Elena asked, "How did you do it?"
Riya and Liam paid attention, wanting to hear his explanation.
Eric had already prepared an explanation since he didn’t want to tell anyone about the system, at least not yet. So, he showed them his pendant, to be exact, the cracked crystal. 𝗳𝚛𝚎𝚎𝘄𝕖𝕓𝕟𝕠𝚟𝚎𝕝.𝗰𝕠𝐦
Elena’s heart throbbed when she saw this, and her face went pale.
Noticing this, Eric realized what was going on in her mind. Only the pendant’s crystal and the golden letter were the things that could trace back to his origin, and she thought he had somehow found out who he was through the crystal.
He didn’t show anything on his face, though he sighed in his heart and said, "When that noble’s goons were beating me, this crystal broke, and an energy entered my body. Perhaps because of that, I was unconscious for two months as it was healing and changing my body. When I woke up, I was completely healed and could sense spirit energy."
Riya was still for a few moments before she jumped up from her seat and hugged him, her eyes teary from excitement, "That’s amazing!"
Eric was about to hug her back when she pulled away from him and hugged Elena, excitedly saying, "Mom, big brother is a Warrior now, a Warrior!"
Elena smiled back, "Yeah. I heard. This is wonderful news."
While the ladies celebrated and Eric watched them with a smile on his face, Liam had recovered from his shock and looked at the crystal hanging on Eric’s chest with shining eyes and asked, "Hey, Eric. Can it be used a second time? I want to become a warrior too."
"Of course, you do." Eric scoffed before saying, "Unfortunately, it can’t be used a second time."
Liam sighed, looking disappointed. He then suddenly grinned, "Well, it’s alright. I’m happy that at least my brother-in-law has become a warrior. Just don’t forget to make my life easier; otherwise, I’ll curse you day and night."
Eric chuckled at his words before taking off the pendant. "Here. Who knows, maybe it’ll be able to help you too."
Liam glared at him, "You don’t need to give me false hope. It’s already cracked, and all the energy inside must have been exhausted."
"Hmm? You don’t want it? Alright then." Eric shrugged and was about to put it on his neck when...
Swoosh!
Liam lunged forward and snatched it from him before putting it around his neck. Gently rubbing the crystal, he smiled, "I’ll take it since you are insisting."
"Tsk!"
Eric clicked his tongue, and then both burst out in laughter. When they calmed down, Liam said, "Congratulations, man! I’m really happy hearing the news. Now you can take good care of Aunt, little Riya, and big sis Elsa."
Eric nodded.
Riya and Elena had also recovered. Riya then asked, "Eric, since you are a warrior now, do we still need to go to that uncle?"
Eric nodded, "Unfortunately, yes. But you don’t need to worry. I’ll keep him in check."
Riya sighed in defeat before nodding.
