Chapter 791: Chapter 788: Why Aren’t You Looking at Me?

Such a kiss, so gentle it feels unreal.

Sipping lightly, bit by bit, every touch filled with deep affection.

The gloom built up over so many days seems to be lifting little by little, and her heart brims with a sweet, tingly sensation.

Even though she had been with Ou Jue for quite a while now, this guy still had the ability to stir her heart with just the slightest move.

After the kiss ended, Xia Xiyan’s cheeks were flushed, and she found herself a little embarrassed.

She couldn’t even raise her head to look at him, her small hands gripping the collar of Ou Jue’s shirt.

Ou Jue’s thumb traced her chin, brushing against it in slow, repeated motions. "Why aren’t you looking at me?"

"Uhm..." Her gaze finally landed on his outrageously handsome face, and Xiyan quickly changed the topic, "Speaking of which, how’s the Ou Group doing now? Is it really on the brink of collapse? I overheard the nurse earlier saying you’ve even started selling off assets..."

The concern in the girl’s tone was unmistakable.

Ou Jue’s lips curled, "With me here, even if it’s on the brink of collapse, I’ll make sure it turns things around just fine."

His voice carried an absolute confidence, laced with the typical arrogance of Ou Jue.

"Really?" Out there, it’s not what people are saying though...

"If only you could give me less to worry about." Ou Jue straightened up in his seat. "Arguing with a fool like you is far more exhausting than running a corporation."

A few days ago, the Ou Group’s situation had indeed been dicey, but everything was still within his control.

But... who could have spread such baseless rumors about the Ou Group selling off assets?

What was their motive?

Ou Jue’s gaze darkened slightly.

The media’s problem always lies in their habit of fabricating stories.

Even the slightest movement, no matter how groundless, becomes exaggerated and blown out of proportion.

It’s no wonder there are currently so many rumors circulating outside.

Xiyan puffed up her chest in defense, "Well, it’s your fault for being so reserved and not telling me the truth from the start. Instead, you kept everything bottled up by yourself. And now everyone’s saying that I broke up with you because the Ou Group is in trouble. How are you going to compensate for the damage to my reputation?"

"You heartless little brat." Ou Jue pinched her small nose in mock annoyance. "Compensate you for what? Wasn’t it you who deliberately filmed a kissing scene with another man just to provoke me?"

"I wasn’t deliberately provoking you!" Xiyan protested. "Besides, what kissing scene? That was just using camera angles!"

"Using angles doesn’t make it okay." Ou Jue’s face turned cold as he growled, "Even just seeing you get that close to another man makes me want to kill him."

"I don’t care what you think." Xiyan suddenly hugged him tightly. "Can you promise me not to shoulder everything alone in the future? You always say I have you now, but... you have me too."

Ou Jue froze for a moment.

"I want to help ease some of your burdens too," Xiyan murmured as she nuzzled her little head against his chest, "Even if it’s just a tiny bit."

The young man was silent for a long time, his Adam’s apple bobbing slightly, before he looked down at her.

"Idiot."

"Next time we argue, don’t be so mean to me," Xiyan looked at him with childlike grievance, "Sometimes I’m already upset, and when you’re mean to me, I just get angrier and feel like biting your head off. And also, um... if we argue again and I tell you to leave, you absolutely must not actually leave..."

Most of the time, when a girl fights with her boyfriend, those harsh words are merely her way of asking to be cherished and coaxed.

Looking up at Ou Jue’s resolute chin, Xiyan whispered, "Promise me..."

"I’m not promising you." Ou Jue replied firmly.

"You—"

"Because..." Ou Jue lowered his head until his forehead touched hers. "There won’t be a next time."

Once was enough.

Ou Jue simply couldn’t bear the thought of this idiot possibly storming away in a fit of anger because of another argument.

The terror of that experience was something he never wanted to feel again as long as he lived.

Hearing his words, Xiyan felt like countless little fireworks exploded in her heart.

So sweet, so sweet.

Though Master Ou had pulled Xiyan straight out of the studio.

The commercial still had to be filmed.

They really couldn’t return to B City immediately.

On the drive back to the hotel, Xiyan used Ou Jue’s phone to video call Ou Mama and Ou Grandma.

She also checked in with Xia Zhiyun and early morning to let them know she was safe.

Inside the hotel room.

As soon as they entered the suite, Ou Jue walked gracefully to the window and pulled the curtains shut.

It was now early evening, and with the curtains drawn, the room plunged into darkness as though it were nighttime, unless the lights were turned on.

He leaned down and switched on the bedside lamp.

The warm orange glow instantly transformed the atmosphere.

Then he turned to face Xiyan, his deep eyes fixed on her.

Xiyan swallowed hard, instinctively pressing her back against the door.

Oh my god, why does just being stared at by him make her heart race?

"You-you-you... what are you up to?"

Ou Jue elegantly loosened his tie, his gaze never leaving her. "Come here."

Xiyan hesitated.

"Are you pretending to be a gecko against the door?" His thin lips moved, his already deep voice now imbued with the smooth richness of aged wine in the ambient lighting. "I said, come here."

This guy!!

You’re the gecko!

Xiyan straightened up and started walking forward. Thinking quickly, she tried to lighten the mood. "By the way, it’s dinner time. Should we go downstairs to eat?"

Ou Jue tossed his tie aside, then grabbed her arm and leaned in to whisper something close to her ear.

Ahhh!!

Xiyan’s face instantly turned scarlet.

...This is a pure boundary line for me...

Xiyan woke up to find it was nine o’clock at night.

She had only slept half an hour.

And yet, her body felt like it was falling apart.

She glared at Ou Jue with exasperation.

This guy went from afternoon straight to night!!

What kind of stamina was this?!

And the worst part was, while she felt like she was about to keel over, Ou Jue, on the other hand, was looking as smug and composed as ever!

Ou Jue was holding two bags containing food he had ordered someone to buy.

Two bowls of congee and some small dishes.

He placed the food on the bedside table and calmly picked up a bowl of congee, sitting by the bed. "Get up and eat something before you sleep again."

"Hmph." Xiyan pouted and pulled the blanket tighter.

"Seems like you’re not in the mood for food but rather for something else?"

"You’re awful! You just bully me and exhaust me! I feel like I’m going to die!"

"You’re my wife. Who else am I supposed to exhaust?"

"You—"

How could he say that so confidently?!

"Be good." Ou Jue tugged the blanket down. "Eat well so you’ll have enough energy to keep enduring, hmm?"

Xiyan leaned back against the headboard as Ou Jue sat beside her, feeding her spoonfuls of congee.

One bite after another.

Xiyan felt like royalty, enjoying the care of someone like Ou Jue—as if she were an empress.

After taking a few bites, Xiyan teased him deliberately, "I feel like I’m an empress from ancient times, and you’re just my little eunuch."

Ou Jue froze briefly, the hand holding the spoon pausing mid-air before turning to look at her sideways. "What did you just call me?"

Xiyan instinctively shrank back.

The young man lifted her chin with his fingers. "Idiot, are you challenging me?"

"It’s true." Xiyan receded and muttered softly.

Ou Jue stared at her for a moment. "Heh."

Then he picked up the bowl again, gracefully stirring the congee. "An empress, hmm? A little eunuch, hmm? Xia Xiyan, just wait until I make you cry later."

"Don’t, don’t, don’t!" Xiyan quickly shook her head, opening her mouth obediently for another spoonful. "Let’s just focus on the congee."

The young man lowered his gaze, full of adoration as he softly muttered, "Fool."
