Super Soldier in the City-Chapter 1890 - 1953: Granny Su Visits the Grand View Garden
On their side, neither Li Yifei nor Su Lio was too concerned. Li Yifei felt there was no need to care, while Su Lio was even less likely to be concerned with such matters. As for Su Tong wanting to handle things, he could go ahead; nothing major would happen anyway. That was Su Lio’s thought.
Their plane landed at the provincial capital’s airport. The family sent someone to pick them up, and it was still Chu Xiaoyao. The little girl was full of energy; as soon as she saw Li Yifei coming out of a special passage, she immediately ran over and jumped into his arms.
Li Yifei spread out his arms to embrace Chu Xiaoyao. Once she was done with her affectionate greeting, Li Yifei released her. Chu Xiaoyao twisted her waist and said in a sweet voice, "Honey, why did it take you so long to come back? I missed you. My period was about to come, and I really wanted you here. But I waited and waited, and you still didn’t come back. Now that you’re back, it’s too late—my period is here."
"Ahem..." Li Yifei cleared his throat; he almost blurted out that they could still opt for the back door, but then he remembered Su Lio standing behind him. This girl already had issues with him, and seeing this scene would definitely deepen those issues. Instead of responding to Chu Xiaoyao, he turned around, holding her hand, and looked at Su Lio, saying, "Xiaoyao, let me introduce you. This is Su Lio. She is..."
Chu Xiaoyao also noticed someone behind Li Yifei. What she said earlier had been overheard, but who was Chu Xiaoyao? She wasn’t going to feel embarrassed. She gave Su Lio a once-over, her eyes lighting up, and said, "Honey, is this your newly found sister? She’s very pretty, with a cool and aloof aura. Not bad, not bad, and her skin is so fair!"
Su Lio’s eyebrows immediately furrowed. This girl, who seemed about her age, had startled her with just one sentence. How could she say such things? Listening to Chu Xiaoyao’s words, Su Lio couldn’t help but frown; how could a girl be so frivolous?
"Nonsense. This is Su Lio—a granddaughter of Elder Su from the Su Family I visited this time. In terms of hierarchy, we should all call her Auntie," Li Yifei said, gently spanking Chu Xiaoyao on her butt.
Chu Xiaoyao giggled and said, "I know, I was joking earlier." Saying this, she reached out her little hand and said with a smile, "Hello, my name is Chu Xiaoyao. I’m now Comrade Li Yifei’s little wife. Welcome, Auntie... uh, welcome, Su Lio, to our home."
The word ’Auntie’ was stuck in her throat. Su Lio reached out her hand and shook Chu Xiaoyao’s. Surprised, Chu Xiaoyao said, "Why are your hands so cold? Did you catch a chill on the plane?"
Su Lio shook her head slightly, saying, "I’m fine, thank you for your concern."
"Let’s go; we’ll talk more once we’re in the car, on our way home," Li Yifei said. By now it was evening; although they had eaten something on the plane, they wanted to get home as soon as possible.
On the plane, neither of them had said much. Throughout the one-hour journey, Su Lio had kept her eyes closed—who knows if she had actually slept—while Li Yifei was lost in thought. Once they were in the car, Chu Xiaoyao started conversing with Su Lio, but it was mostly she who spoke, with Su Lio replying with the occasional ’mm’ or ’uh-huh.’ Still, Chu Xiaoyao didn’t find it dull.
Li Yifei was driving, and a car with the Li family’s bodyguards followed behind them.
It was Su Lio’s first time coming to Ning Province. Although it wasn’t too far, she had never been before, and naturally had not visited Mile City. Watching the unfamiliar scenery outside the window, she felt somewhat melancholic. As they entered Mile City, Chu Xiaoyao asked Li Yifei to drive to a street full of food stalls, ran out, bought a bunch of snacks, and then let Li Yifei drive home.
"Su Lio, you should try some; they’re really good, and they’re clean—you won’t get a stomachache," Chu Xiaoyao fervently recommended her snacks, but Su Lio didn’t want to eat. Even though she was a little hungry, due to health reasons, she hadn’t eaten this kind of food in years. The things she did consume were specially processed and selected. Some items that were considered too ’chilly’ for the body, like seafood, were avoided. Meanwhile, Chu Xiaoyao unceremoniously pinched the tail of a spicy crayfish, quickly peeled off the shell, and popped the morsel into her mouth. Chewing fast, she swallowed it with satisfaction, then took a can of cola from the car’s fridge, gulped down a few swigs, and finally let out a satisfied "Ah," looking very content.
Su Lio watched Chu Xiaoyao in a daze; she had never seen such a carefree girl before.
Seeing that Su Lio wasn’t going to eat, Chu Xiaoyao said, "They’re really tasty; you can eat them without worry."
Driving, Li Yifei turned his head back, smiled, and said, "Xiaoyao, Ali’s health isn’t the best. She’s not suited for these. Just enjoy them yourself."
"Ah?" Upon hearing this, Chu Xiaoyao quickly apologized, "I’m sorry, I didn’t know. But Ali is a really nice name; it sounds like a character in one of the games I play."
Though Su Lio didn’t understand what she was talking about, she nodded her appreciation and said, "Thank you."
"No problem. Eventually, you’ll know I’m just very... enthusiastic. Since you’re a guest at our house, it’s natural for me to take care of you," Chu Xiaoyao continued, and then added to Li Yifei, "Honey, why not have Ali stay with me tonight? We’re almost the same age, so we must have a lot in common to talk about."
Li Yifei shook his head and said, "We have guest rooms, Ali can stay in one if she prefers. If she’d like to stay with Mengxin, that’s also an option. We’ll decide once we’re home."
But she definitely couldn’t stay with Chu Xiaoyao, who frequently stayed up all night playing games and using the computer—a schedule totally incompatible with Su Lio’s. Moreover, after spending some days with Su Lio, Li Yifei realized that she preferred quiet environments, and wouldn’t do well in overly lively settings.
Before they knew it, they were home. Since they had received advance notice, the women of the household were all there to welcome Li Yifei and Su Lio, especially Su Mengxin, who wanted to greet her little aunt sooner. She was aware of Su Lio’s health situation and felt some compassion.
Blood ties are such a curious thing; Su Mengxin had no idea of Su Lio’s existence until recently, but upon hearing about her health issues, she started to worry for her. Even without this issue, she would have wanted Li Yifei to bring Su Lio home.
Once the car stopped, Li Yifei got out first and took the pile of food that Chu Xiaoyao had bought. Chu Xiaoyao hopped out next, and finally Su Lio stepped out. From the moment she arrived at the Li family household, she was stunned. The Li family’s property was much larger than that of the Su family—not counting the mountain behind the Su residence. From the outside, it looked more like a high-end villa complex, and indeed, inside were many villas. She was most taken aback by the group waiting to greet her: a lineup of women, with a few children among them. A rough count tallied about ten or so.
Good heavens, Su Lio thought, using the word ’casanova’ to describe Li Yifei previously had been rather downplayed—this was definitely akin to being a playboy. His home had so many wives!
With countless exclamation points in her heart, Su Lio found herself spacing out when the women began greeting her.
Once more, it was Chu Xiaoyao who nudged her lightly, reminding her, "Ali, let me introduce you to everyone. These are all the sisters of the family. Of course, I call them sisters, but I think it’d be better if you did too, instead of being the Auntie!"
It was only then that Su Lio snapped back to reality, nodding instinctively. Chu Xiaoyao went on to say, "Alright, from now on, you’re the little sister, not Auntie. Let me start introducing you. This is Su Mengxin, Sister Mengxin, your... uh, niece, but since you agreed to call her sister, it’ll make things easier in the future."
Su Mengxin was also looking at Su Lio. The others noticed a resemblance in their appearances, despite Su Mengxin having a more composed air, with a certain mature grace belonging to young wives, while Su Lio still retained a youthful quality, albeit exceptionally delicate.
Su Mengxin reached out, grasping Su Lio’s hand, and immediately noticed how cold it was. It made her even more empathetic. She said, "Ali, I will call you this from now on. Of course, you’re still my aunt. Welcome to the Li family."
"Th-thank you," Su Lio murmured, looking at Su Mengxin, curious as to why someone with such stunning looks was content to share a man with so many others. Also, there wasn’t an average-looking woman among them; all were beautiful, like they’d come from a large-scale beauty contest.
"Don’t feel restrained; the sisters are all lovely. Knowing you were coming, everyone gathered to welcome you. Let me introduce everyone!" Su Mengxin took over the introductions from Chu Xiaoyao, helping acquaint Su Lio with the family, while Chu Xiaoyao started distributing food. She had bought enough for the family, especially for the two older daughters, ensuring each had several snacks.
After all the introductions, Li Yifei invited everyone inside, into his house. The place had been renovated so, despite the number of people, it didn’t feel cramped at all. Li Yifei found a seat and sat down, watching the women talk. 𝑓𝘳𝘦𝑒𝑤𝑒𝘣𝘯ℴ𝘷𝘦𝓁.𝑐𝑜𝑚
Everyone warmly welcomed Su Lio, especially Su Mengxin, who wouldn’t let go of her hand. Besides hearing a few things from Li Yifei, she had also heard from their grandfather, prompting a natural fondness toward Su Lio.
Initially, Su Lio felt uncomfortable, sitting there being scrutinized, but there really was no malice. After a while, she began to relax and started chatting with the women.
Li Yifei saw to it that dinner was arranged, and those who hadn’t eaten joined in. Naturally, there were chats during the meal. After dinner, there was the matter of arranging a place for Su Lio to stay. Su Mengxin immediately suggested, "Let Ali stay with me. It’ll be more convenient if anything arises."
