35: Seeking Help

Just then, Peter Brown’s cell phone suddenly rang.

The ringing startled Peter, who quickly pulled away from Helen’s embrace.

“Peter, I’ll be there in about ten minutes to pick you up and take you to the county.

My dad needs your help,” Reuben Taylor said bluntly, without any pleasantries.

“Help?” ƒгeeweɓn૦vel.com

“No time now.

We’ll talk when we meet.

Get ready, and come when my car arrives.”

After hanging up the phone, Peter was a little confused.

“Peter, do you have something to do?” Helen looked at Peter.

It was only then that Peter reacted and said to Helen, “Alright, let’s just say that.

I have something to do, and I think I’ll have to go to the town for a few days.

You take care of your own affairs.”

Helen just nodded.

Watching Helen walk towards the mountains, Peter collected himself and went towards his own house.

Just now, their embrace had given Peter some thoughts.

Helen was a mature young girl, and she was very attractive to Peter.

He wondered if something would have happened if his phone hadn’t rung.

Thinking of Helen, and then of Quinn, Peter’s thoughts were certainly in disarray.

After getting inside the house through the back window, Peter thought for a moment.

Feeling like he might be asked to treat some illness again, he packed his silver needles and looked around for anything else he could bring.

Finding nothing, he left the room.

Hearing the commotion, Raven asked, “Peter, what are you doing?”

“Dad, I just received a call saying that Mayor Taylor wants me to help with something.

The car picking me up is already halfway here, and I might be gone for a few days.”

Hearing that the mayor was asking for help, Raven said, “You go ahead since there’s nothing going on at home.”

As he spoke, Raven turned on the lights.

Peter said, “You guys don’t have to get up.

I will just go to the car, so that it doesn’t cause any disturbance in the village.”

After finishing his sentence, Peter opened the door and went out.

Behind him, he heard his mother Liza Smith’s voice saying, “Be careful.”

After responding with a nod, Peter began running towards the main road.

After bypassing a section of the road, Peter saw the car lights in the distance.

Reuben Taylor’s car came to a stop up ahead, and the driver was one who usually drove for Mayor Taylor.

“You ran such a far way!”

Looking at the distant village and then at Peter, Reuben Taylor asked.

After Peter got into the car, it turned around and sped towards the town.

“What’s the situation?” Peter asked.

Glancing at the driver, Reuben said, “This time, I need to ask you to help my dad, and if this works, it will be a major breakthrough for him.”

“Just tell me what it is.

I’m not sure if I can help.”

“I’m sure you can!”

At this point, Reuben continued, “My dad used to be a secretary for a provincial leader.

Suddenly, the leader had a stroke and was sent to the hospital today.”

Peter understood a bit and said, “Stroke is not an easy disease to treat.”

“That’s right, many people who recover from a stroke have lingering problems.

If there are any complications, that leader’s political career will be over, which is something we all don’t want to see!”

Peter nodded subtly and said, “Indeed.”

Reuben looked at Peter and asked, “Be honest with me.

Can you treat it?”

Seeing Peter’s past actions, Reuben had great confidence in him.

“It’s not that I can’t treat it.”

“Alright, as long as you say so, I’ll feel at ease!”

Peter chuckled and said, “Is it that important that you had to come and pick me up at midnight?”

“Even more important than you think.

You don’t know this, but my dad has always relied on that leader.

Otherwise he wouldn’t have become the county mayor.”

Peter thought of Reuben’s trust in him all along and could only nod slightly.

This time, he really had to help.

Reuben added, “To put it bluntly, that leader is currently the third in command in the province and has a good chance of taking the second seat.

But, suddenly, this happened, and everything became uncertain.

If the treatment is unsuccessful, or if there are lingering problems, it will be difficult for him to keep his current position, let alone advance.

He may have to retire due to illness, and by then my dad will lose his strongest backer, which is bad for him.”

“There are so many doctors in the province.

Will they trust me?” Peter expressed his concern.

“Leave that to my dad.

He is very familiar with the leader’s family, especially since they knew about the last time you saved my dad.”

Peter said, “Alright, I’ll take a look first and then decide.

Maybe they won’t believe me and won’t want me to treat him.”

In fact, Peter was now at the Qi Refining First Layer, much stronger than when he had treated Reuben’s father.

Treating a stroke was not particularly difficult for him; it could be done easily with the aid of True Qi and silver needles.

Reuben said, “Just tell me what you need to prepare.”

Peter thought for a moment and asked, “Shouldn’t the old leader be having surgery right now?”

“I’m not sure about that.

I think he should be having surgery.

My dad already went there overnight when he heard about it this morning.

Just before he left, he asked me to invite you to the provincial capital with him.”

Peter said, “If he has had surgery, I’m worried that it may have further affected the patient’s brain.”

Reuben was not clear about these things, so he said, “That’s it, just tell me what herbs you need, and I’ll call someone to buy them.

I still have some connections in the provincial capital.”

Peter thought for a moment and said, “Okay, help me get some herbs.

They’re not expensive or rare, and I’ll use them to make medicine.”

Reuben didn’t say much and immediately dialed a number in the provincial capital, “Listen, get these herbs for me right away, no matter the cost.

When our car arrives in the city, you bring them over immediately.”

After finishing speaking, he handed the phone over to Peter.

Peter took the phone and heard a middle-aged man’s voice on the other end, so he told him all the herbs and items he needed.

After the man noted them down, Peter hung up the phone and looked at Reuben, “As long as he’s not dead, I can fix him.

Don’t worry.”

Reuben praised, “I knew you were capable.

With your words, I’m relieved.”

The car sped through the night, not entering the city, but instead heading straight towards the provincial capital.

On the way, Reuben called his father and told him about Peter’s situation.
