Substitute Wife for the Mafia King R18-Chapter 77: The Last Straw
“My father called the other day to tell me to do something about the fact that there’s nothing out there about us. Well, there’s obviously nothing out there about us because there really is no ‘us’ and I’m stuck in here as well...” I pointed out.
“So?” he said without a care.
My hands clenched together tightly under the table on my lap as I suddenly had the urge to wrap my hand around his neck and wring it. For the life of me, I had no idea why he was acting like this was purely my problem and that he had absolutely nothing to do with this.
“I’m sure that your father told you something similar. This isn’t an issue that can be solved by my actions alone. We need to work together on this one,” I proposed brightly as if I was proposing the idea of eternal worldwide peace.
“You can count me out. If you think I should not stop you, then at least stop posting things that reference me or may expose the location of this place,” he said coldly.
“Don’t you care about the plan going all wrong?” I asked because that was almost my last straw of hope for getting him to cooperate with me.
“Why do you care about their plan going all wrong? It’s not your plan, or do you care so much about those loving parents of yours?” he asked sarcastically.
I don’t and yet I do. I don’t care at all about what happens to my parents. Actually, I would wish them ruin for all that I care. However, I did care about the citizens that may get impacted and most of all...
“I don’t care about them. They can go off and die somewhere for all that I care but...” I replied before trailing off.
What about Diana...?
I’m Diana now. If I simply disappear now, what will happen to my sister and her life?
Despite what Diana told me about her having found the love of her life and the man that she would spend the rest of her life with, I didn’t believe a word of it. Sooner or later, something is bound to go wrong in their relationship if there was even a relationship to start with. When that time comes, Diana will come back and I’m going to make sure that she has a life to return to. For that to happen, our family cannot crumple and the same applies to this charade of a marriage.
“Listen, I’m not asking you to act like my husband for real at all. All I’m asking is for us to act like a happily married couple when we’re in front of others and now and then so that I can create some content to post on social media. That’s it, ok?” I explained like it was no big deal.
We’re just going to go out on dates while pretending to be in love. We’ll take some photos together while putting on our best smiles and all that. Hopefully it won’t be long before the public loses interest, and we can then move on with our lives. The unimpressed look on Bradon’s face told me that we were clearly not in agreement.
“I think you’re misunderstanding something here,” he said sternly.
“And what is that?” I asked without backing down.
“I’m not here to play ‘house’ with you and as long as you are in my house, you will live by my rules. Stop doing anything unnecessary. You can’t escape from here and you can’t die either. So just focus on eating your food,” he stated coldly.
“I won’t die...” I said with a shrug of my shoulders.
I didn’t want to die because I still had so much that I wanted to do and many people I had to get back at. His concern for my potential demise did not make me feel thankful in any way because I knew that it wasn’t really me that he was worried about.
“Good. It would be a big problem if you died,” he muttered darkly.
“You mean, if Diana dies, right?” I quickly corrected him.
His cold blue eyes narrowed at me and suddenly the temperature in the room felt like it had dropped a couple of degrees. I should have felt scared, but I just felt numb under his intense gaze. There was no time for me to regret the words that had already left my lips. It did occur to me that I might be so scared of him that I didn’t feel scared of him anymore. It was a very strange and twisted notion that I didn’t quite understand.
“Is your family really fine with what you’re doing?” I asked because it felt like my last shot, although it was probably a very long one.
His family should be pressuring him in the same way that my father was pressuring me. Unlike me, he must care about his family since he did agree to take Anthony’s place at the wedding although he knew that he would end up marrying me instead of Diana. He might not want to do this, and he definitely won’t go along with it for my sake, but he still might do it for his family.
“Family? What family?” he asked as if he hadn’t the slightest clue what it meant.
Don’t tell me...
I let out a loud and long sigh when I was forced to acknowledge that I no longer had any other option at my disposal. He did tell me that he wouldn’t do anything for free and that I would be stuck here until either one of us changes our mind about that. Unfortunately, I was ready to change my mind right at that moment.
“Fine. Let’s just do it...” I said as I stared boldly at him.
Everyone thought that Dahlia was crazy anyways and maybe they were not completely wrong. Now and then, I guess I should live up to my name and fame.
“Do what?” he asked without any interest.
Slowly, I stood up from my seat as I slowly breathed out.
