Chapter 75: Dinner Together

Suddenly, there was a knock on my bedroom door, and I lost my train of thought. I let out a sigh as I got up from the bed and headed for the door.

“Lady Diana...” Jenna said to me the moment that I opened the door.

“Yes? Oh, by the way, you can just call me Diana. You can drop the whole ‘lady’ thing and let’s just talk casually from now on, ok?” I suggested with a smile.

“If that’s what you want then...” she agreed hesitantly.

“Is there something that you want from me?” I questioned curiously.

“I’m just here to tell you that I’ll be setting up dinner for you in the dining room,” she informed me politely.

“You can just prepare something simple for me. I’m not a picky eater,” I replied.

“I can’t do that,” she replied with a playful glint in her eyes.

It felt like she was hiding away a great secret. It made me curious, but it wasn’t like I was dying to know what kind of secret she harbored.

“And why is that?” I asked.

“You will find out soon. Please come down to dinner at around 7PM. I’ll make sure to have everything prepared,” she said with clear excitement.

“Ok...” I replied while still not quite understanding the way that she was acting.

“Oh, and please wear something pretty...” she suggested as an afterthought.

“Sure...” I replied as I wondered what she was really up to.

...

Seriously, why would I have to bother to dress up or wear something pretty when all I’m going to do is have dinner all by myself?

Since I was bored but in a relatively good mood, I decided to take a shower and treat my hair to a course of treatment before going down to dinner. The attention that my various post on social media had not died down and I was certain that the post would continue to grab the public’s attention. I had no idea why so many people in this country cared so much about the life of others, but it was clearly working in my favor.

When I stepped out of the shower, I felt refreshed, and I was looking forward to having a peaceful meal alone before heading back to rest on my bed. Sooner or later, I’d have to face Bradon again and hopefully by then, he would see the need to set me free so that I could step outside. I dried my hair and got dressed in a nightgown before wrapping a matching robe around my body. It surprised me a bit at first when I realized that there weren’t many guards on standby inside the house.

Whenever I walked around, I hardly ran into any bodyguards, and it seemed like only the maids were inside the house. I preferred it this way because it made me feel more at ease without anyone constantly watching me. However, it would be better to be on the safe side rather than sorry to cover up a little in case I did run into a male member of the staff.

I was humming a tune to myself as I made my way to the dining room where Jenna had promised to set up a nice meal for me. Something healthy and not so heavy would be great for dinner. Despite Bradon being mean and cold, I had to say that everyone else was kind and worked hard to please me. The food was delicious and catered to my stated preferences and all my requests did not go ignored except for my wish to go outside. Basically, I could have my way with anything as long as it didn’t go against Bradon’s orders.

“Oh, Jenna...” I called out to her brightly when I saw her standing in front of the doors to the dining room.

“You’re here, Lady...Diana...” she said before showing me an apologetic smile.

I smiled a little at her when I realized that it might take some time before she got used to talking to me casually and dropping the whole ‘Lady’ part of my name.

“You’ll get used to it soon. Is dinner ready?” I asked enthusiastically.

“Yes, you should go in now...” she said with a sweet smile.

“Thank you,” I thanked her while wondering why she seemed a little unsettled.

I opened the door wide open before my eyes flew immediately to the dining table as I wondered what food was being served for dinner. What I saw didn’t quite fit well with what I had in mind at all...

The door closed with a loud slamming sound before I turned to stare in disbelief at Jenna. My heart raced in my chest, and I wasn’t sure if I had imagined what I had seen.

“Why is he here?” I asked breathlessly as I tried to contain my shock. 𝒻𝘳𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝘯𝘰𝑣ℯ𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝘮

It’s only 7PM. Did I just imagine seeing him because I had been thinking of him not too long ago?

“You see, Master Bradon called earlier saying that he’ll be back for dinner,” Jenna explained.

“What?! Really?” I blurted before I could stop myself.

Is this the reason why she told me to wear something pretty?

It was all because she knew that Bradon would be having dinner with me. I started frowning as I wondered what he had planned. It was so unlike him to want to have dinner with me. Although I knew that I had to face him sooner or later to get what I wanted, I didn’t think that the time would arrive so soon.

“Why aren’t you coming inside?”

A stern voice asked right at the same time that I felt the door being pulled opened. I dreaded seeing him like seeing some kind of ghost when I turned around to face him. Bradon was standing there still dressed in his suit and it was apparent that he had just returned home. He really was there, and he wasn’t just the result of my own imagination, unfortunately.

“Let’s have dinner together, my ‘awesome’ wife,” he said without hiding the sarcasm in his tone.
