Substitute Wife for the Mafia King R18-Chapter 66: Night Stroll with a Dangerous Man
“Umm...can you...help me down now?” I whispered sweetly before I pressed my lips into a thin line and smiled.
“I really should kill you...” he murmured as if he was just talking to himself.
Bradon let out a long and unsuppressed sigh before his hand reached up to untie whatever it was that was restraining my ankles and feet together. When I felt the restraining sensation in my ankles subside, I wondered if he was simply going to let me fall down onto my face on the forest ground. The warmth of his arms around my body as he slowly lowered me down helped to put my fears to rest, at least for a moment.
When this whole putting my escape plan into action started, I never dreamt that I would end up being kissed by him and then being carried in his arms like this. My desperate attempt to get away from him ended up bringing us together instead. Not to mention the fact that he was the one who ended up helping me out of my sticky situation. I stared up into his face while thinking that until the whimpering sound of the dog reminded me that we were not alone.
“Thank you...you can put me down now...” I mumbled softly.
Bradon looked at me before finally deciding to do just as I had requested. Slowly, he lowered me until my feet touched the ground. I wanted to jump up and down with joy when I managed to stand on my own two feet again after my adventurous time hanging upside down. Just when I thought that I had regained some of my freedom back, I noticed that Bradon was holding onto one of my wrists.
“I’m not going to run...” I stated upfront as I held up my hand to stare at where he was holding my wrist.
I wasn’t foolish enough to think that I could outrun Bradon so there was no point in even trying. He stared at me before his eyes narrowed slightly.
“Why did you come out here?” he asked again while keeping his hold on my wrist.
“Umm...I wanted to take a stroll in the gardens...” I replied although my lie didn’t sound at all convincing even to my own ears.
“Really?” he asked with clear disbelief.
“Yes...” I replied with a smile that I hoped would help cover up my true intentions.
“You made that stupid rope and climbed down from your bedroom balcony to take a night stroll? You must have been really bored after locking yourself up in your room...” he commented.
Whose fault do you think that is? Hmmm?
That was what I wanted to say but instead, I decided to act wise and hold my tongue. Bradon stared at me again with that cold look in his eyes. Once again, it felt like he could see through me and all my lies while I couldn’t tell what he was thinking at all.
“Why did you really come out here, Dahlia?” he asked sternly.
“I told you; I came out here for a stroll...” I replied without meeting his eyes.
“I see...” he murmured seemingly without much care.
Without letting go of my wrist, Bradon turned and signaled to the dog. The dog must have been very well-trained because at his signal, the dog just turned and ran away as if it had just been relieved of its mission and was free to go. The atmosphere felt even more tense than before now that I was the only one left with Bradon.
“Where are we going?” I asked before I could stop myself.
Bradon abruptly pulled on my wrist as he began walking. Although I felt like I had gotten lost while making my way through the forest, I was quite certain that he was dragging me in the direction opposite to where the mansion was. Things were taking another surprising turn again when I noticed that Bradon wasn’t dragging me back to the mansion. My legs felt slightly weak as I struggled to keep up with his fast pace.
“Wait! Where are you taking me?” I asked louder than before.
Bradon did not bother replying to me and he did not turn to glance back in my direction. Although I felt scared, I didn’t have any other choice but to follow him deeper into the forest. Bradon pulled on my arm to make sure that I was right behind him and following him closely.
“Please...let’s just go back...” I pleaded in a small voice after we had walked for a while in silence.
The only sound that I could hear was the haunting howling of the wind, the sound of our footsteps against the dried leaves that littered the forest floor, and the sound of my heart racing in my chest. I felt tired and scared. The aftereffects of all that adrenaline pumping in my veins were starting to take a toll on my body and spirit.
“I thought you wanted to go for a stroll,” he replied as he looked over his shoulder to face me.
“I’ve had enough of that. Let’s just head back, please...” I pleaded with him again.
“Let’s go for a stroll together, Dahlia,” he invited mockingly.
I knew immediately that it wasn’t at all an invitation that took into account what I wanted or didn’t want to do. He was simply doing this because I had lied to him that I came out here for an evening stroll. Obviously, he could tell that I was lying to him. It was too late to turn back now, though. It wasn’t like I could come out and admit to him that I was trying to run away but I had failed so miserably.
“Are there more traps like that around here?” I asked after we had walked a while in complete silence.
After recovering from my shock, I realized that I had stepped into a well laid out trap. As for the reason why he would have something like that set up in this backyard, I wasn’t sure if I really wanted to find out.
