Substitute Wife for the Mafia King R18-Chapter 59: Plan of Escape
“Bradon!” Alfred ended up yelling even louder.
I’d just about had enough of him at that point, which led me to hang up and turn off my mobile phone altogether so that he couldn’t call me again. Everything felt like such a bother, and I didn’t want to deal with any more of their selfish demands.
...
**The night after**
Although the bedroom that Bradon had arranged for me was only on the second floor, the fact that the floor-to-ceiling of each floor was so high meant that the distance was still something if I wanted to jump or climb down there. After sitting close to the balcony for almost an hour, I finally decided that the best way was to find something that I could hang onto while I climbed down there. Inspecting the things available to me in my room didn’t leave me with many options.
The bed sheets felt like the safest bet. With the help of the very small scissors that were present as part of the sewing kit stashed away in the wardrobe, I managed to cut the bed sheet from the bed and the spare sheet from the cupboard. After tying it up using what I hoped were secured knots, I managed to make a rope that seemed long enough to reach the ground.
Staring down from the balcony to the garden below, I felt thankful for the first time in my life that I wasn’t afraid of heights. With the help of the rope, I could lower myself down there and even if I fell, I doubt that I would end up breaking anything or killing myself. The idea felt crazy and that was probably because it was in fact crazy. I never thought that I would feel as desperate as I felt then in my life.
This should do it!
I spread the rope and tugged on it with my hand to test its strength. It felt firm enough and I was quite proud and satisfied with what I had achieved. It was another day with nothing for me to do, so from the moment that I woke up in the morning, all I had done was work on the rope that would hopefully lead me to my freedom.
It was still early in the afternoon and the sun was still high in the sky. Now all I needed to do was be patient and wait until evening came. I had no idea where Bradon was but if it was early in the evening, I knew well enough that he wouldn’t be home. Hopefully, by the time that he returned or the time that someone found me missing, I would be long gone from here.
I knew that I would still be married to ‘Anthony’ even if I managed to escape but I still had hopes that things might get better if I was outside. I planned to hunt Anthony down. With Diana’s face, I was sure that I could get to see him at his office or when he was out attending public events. There would be ample opportunities for me to get in touch with him, if only I could get my ass out of here. Then, I would tell him just how horribly Bradon had been treating me and then I would get my freedom back!
My mood dampened a little when I realized that he may not agree to help me if it meant going against his father’s wishes. What if they really thought that it would be better for me to stay hidden away?
But...why would they think that?
What should I do if that was the case?
My eyes widened when I realized that the perfect solution was staring me right in the face. For what was probably the first time in my life, my father had presented me with a solution instead of more problems. My lips curved into a smile and a little giggle left my lips when I thought of the most perfect plan.
Why didn’t I think of this before?
...
**Later in the evening**
Evening arrived much slower than I had hoped. Although it was supposed to be just a few hours of waiting, it felt like years had passed by the time the sun had started to set. The bright blue sky became tinged with various shades of orange and pink. Soon enough, Jenna would knock on my door to bring me dinner. For a change, I’m going to enjoy the meal for a bit to make sure that my stomach was full, and I was energized enough for my climb down to the gardens below.
Not too long after, I heard a few knocks on my door. In order to ensure that Jenna knew that I was in the room and could vouch for my presence later on, I opened the door to greet her. The look of pleasant surprise on her face when she saw my face made me feel slightly guilty inside. I hoped that she wouldn’t get into a lot of trouble when Bradon found out that I was gone.
“I brought dinner for you, My Lady. Hopefully you will like what the chef prepared. Please try to eat as much as you can...” she said with a hopeful smile.
“Thank you so much,” I thanked her with a smile.
“Should I put this in your room for you?” she offered kindly.
“No, thank you. There’s no need for that. I’ll take it from here,” I replied with a smile as I took the tray of food from her hands while finding it to be a little heavier than I had imagined.
“Please enjoy your meal. If you would prefer, I can get someone to set up your meal at the dining table for you...” she offered.
“I’ll think about it...” I replied without wanting to flat out turn down her offer.
Setting up the dining table meant that I had to leave the privacy of my bedroom to dine in the dining room. The last time that I ate there I had an argument with Bradon. Just thinking about it made my body shake with anger and my breath quickened. Jenna smiled at me one last time before turning to leave.
