Substitute Wife for the Mafia King R18-Chapter 407: The Way Out
"Why would my son want to keep you here?" Mr. Vulkan asked as his eyes seemed to search my face for the answer that he was looking for.
"How am I supposed to know? Maybe he hasn’t had enough of me yet..." I replied before showing them a fake yet extremely sweet smile.
"Even if he isn’t considered a normal member of our family, I still can’t have you associating with him," he continued on as if he was lecturing me of my lack of worth. 𝑓𝘳𝑒𝑒𝓌𝘦𝘣𝘯ℴ𝑣𝘦𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝑚
"I just told you that I’m not the one begging to stay here and with him," I replied coldly.
I had hoped that by then it had become plain obvious what I wanted the two of them to do for me. With their help, I was certain that they could find a way to get me out of Bradon’s mansion. Bradon wasn’t around, so the next in command was Zain, whom I did not think could directly stand up against the head of the Vulkan family. At least, that was where I decided to place my bets at that point in time.
"So you want to leave but he won’t let you? Is that what you’re trying to say?" Mr. Vulkan asked, and I could tell that he was pondering his options.
I took in a deep breath before I nodded my head slowly while making sure that I held his stern gaze. I knew that I shouldn’t appear too desperate for his help. As his eyes seemed to search my face again as if he wanted to see whether or not I was telling the truth, a lump formed in the back of my throat. I quickly ignored that slightly painful feeling as I tried to focus on the task at hand. Of course, it was impossible for me to ignore the fact that what I was about to do would be equivalent to betraying Bradon and his trust. I reminded myself very firmly that I didn’t have any other choice and that he was the one who made it come to this.
"If you want this to really be over..." I said softly.
"Then I better help you get out of here, is that right?" Mr. Vulkan conveniently finished off my thought for me.
He was right. That was exactly what I wanted him to do; however, I knew that getting his help even if our interests happen to align wouldn’t come without a price.
"It would help us both get what we want in the fastest way. You want me away from your family and your son and I want to return to my old life. I want to return to my old peaceful life before you all dragged me into this mess," I confessed bitterly.
"You have your sister and your stupid parents to blame for everything, so don’t you dare try to blame anything related to your fate on me," Mr. Vulkan replied levelly, his tone still as cold as ice.
"Will you or will you not help me get out of here?" I asked, after quickly deciding to dismiss his words.
Nothing mattered as long as I could get myself out of the mansion, and the sooner the better. Considering that the man looked like he was ready to drag me out to get me away from his son not too long ago, I was quite surprised to see him hesitating.
"You will come with us and you will lay low and out of trouble until we can arrange for a quiet way for you to leave the country. You can finally go back to wherever you came from..." he said with a firm nod of his head, indicating that his mind has been finally made up.
"I guess we have a deal," I replied in short.
"Gather your things. I’m not going to wait for you forever," Mr. Vulkan said before leaning back against the sofa in a relaxed manner.
"I won’t need more than a few minutes," I replied before heading for the door.
I didn’t need to bring many things because I didn’t own that many things that I valued in the very first place. Despite all the expensive gifts that Bradon had showered upon me, never once did I think of taking them with me when it came time for me to leave. Just the memories that we shared were more than enough of a treasure for me to take with me. With that thought running through my head, I went to gather a few changes of clothes and my passport.
I discovered that Zain was engaged in an intense argument with Mr. Vulkan by the time that I returned with my things. It was clear that Zain was under Bradon’s orders to keep me locked up in the mansion no matter what; however, it was evident to me that Zain was finding it hard to speak up to Mr. Vulkan.
"As I’ve been telling you, I can only follow Master Bradon’s orders," Zain said stiffly.
"What are you going to do? Use force to stop us from leaving? Step aside right now!" Mr. Vulkan snapped back.
Zain was clearly at a loss about what to do. I knew that he didn’t want to disobey Bradon, but that didn’t mean that he could exactly afford to stand up against Mr. Vulkan’s direct orders either. I apologized silently to Bradon in my head before informing Mr. Vulkan that I was ready to leave.
"Let’s go. This servant is driving me nuts!" Mr. Vulkan spat as he glared at Zain.
"I’m sorry..." I whispered to Zain as I walked past him.
I knew that Zain would give Bradon a call the moment that we left the mansion and that meant that we wouldn’t have that much time to get away.
"We should hurry. Bradon is going to be on our tails very soon," I told them briskly.
"Let’s go," Mr Vulkan said, and for once we were in agreement.
Everything felt almost too easy. The guards didn’t question a thing; they simply stood there, watching as I left with Bradon’s parents. I was beyond grateful for the small miracle and the complete lack of drama as I stepped into their limousine. The moment the doors closed behind us, a heavy silence fell over the car, lingering like a heavy and suffocating fog until the vehicle finally came to a stop.
