Substitute Wife for the Mafia King R18-Chapter 395: Lost Control
"What have you done? Have you completely lost your mind?" my father yelled at me immediately when our family was gathered in private. His face was completely red with anger as his voice echoed in the room. My mother looked like she was on the verge of tears, and I could tell that she was more worried about our family rather than her own daughter.
"News of your ridiculous and scandalous behavior is now all over the place!" my father continued yelling.
As if to drive his message home, his mobile phone began ringing non-stop. One glance at the name displayed on the screen drove my father to the brink before he switched off the phone and threw it onto the floor. My mother let out a scream at my father’s sudden violent outburst before sinking down onto the sofa as if she had lost all strength in her body.
I took the opportunity to slowly take a seat, and Diana was by my side in an instant. I knew that the best way to brave out this storm was to keep quiet and not let his words get to me. Just like the many arguments in my family, I was certain that this one, too, would soon pass, and life would progress somewhat like normal as before.
"Dear, please try to calm down. I’m sure that if we explain things to everyone, they would surely listen to us," my mother said in a whisper, and I could tell that she was not at all confident that words could save our family from this scandal.
"Can you at least tell me that it isn’t true? That this is just nothing but a ridiculous rumor?" my father said as he turned to glare at me.
"It’s true," I replied shortly before clamping my mouth shut once again.
"You’re dating the prince. How could you betray him this way? How could you betray your entire family this way?" my mother yelled quite loudly as she turned to me with a shocked expression on her face.
It had always been my mother’s fairytale dream come true for me to get together with Prince Desmond. For the life of her, she probably could not imagine or find the reason why I would betray the prince to be with another man because, in her eyes, there wasn’t anyone more eligible than the Crown Prince, who was directly next in line to the throne. Perhaps she was half right. I didn’t have any reason to get involved with a random teacher, but she didn’t know that it wasn’t exactly up to me to decide.
I glanced over at Diana when I felt her give my hand a tight squeeze. I could tell that she was scared, so I simply smiled and nodded my head reassuringly to tell her that everything was going to be fine. Once again, we were going to survive the storm together and emerge as happy as we could be.
"Call the prince right now and tell him that this isn’t true! Call him right now!" my father commanded.
"It’s already too late. Prince Desmond has probably found out by now, and I don’t want to lie to him," I replied emotionlessly. 𝒻𝑟ℯℯ𝑤𝑒𝑏𝑛𝘰𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝒸𝑜𝘮
"Why would you do something so stupid?" my mother asked, although it wasn’t a question. I had never seen her look so desperate as in that moment as she begged me with her eyes to tell her that everything was simply a misunderstanding.
"Can you please stop blaming Dahlia?" my sister spoke up in my defense.
"Why shouldn’t we blame her? She is exactly the one to blame!" my father screamed at the top of his lungs. I was certain that there were maids listening intently to what was unfolding just right on the opposite side of the door.
"Do you hate us that much? Is that why you’re doing this to ruin our family? Why don’t you ever think of our family’s future or your sister’s future?" my mother continued complaining before she openly began wailing like a young child.
Just as I thought that our argument would spiral even further out of control, there were firm knocks on the door that drew all of our attention.
"Excuse me," I heard the familiar voice of my nanny calling from the other side of the door. The formality mixed with the urgency in her voice told all of us that it was something important that couldn’t wait.
"What is it? We’re a little preoccupied here," my father yelled in a snappy voice.
"There is an important message from the palace," my nanny spoke just as formally as before.
The word palace clearly got everyone’s attention, and my father marched immediately towards the door before swinging it open.
"The palace tried to call you, but they couldn’t reach you..." my nanny began explaining, but I could tell that she was worried about me when her eyes immediately sought out mine.
I tried my best to smile at her, but my body betrayed me, and all I could feel was my lower lip quivering.
"What is the message? What did they say?" my father demanded to know.
"I was simply instructed for you to contact them back as soon as possible," my nanny replied.
"It must be the king," my mother whispered before her hand flew to cover her mouth. Her face was deadly pale, and it really looked like she was about to faint at any moment. The mention of the king’s name was the first indication that my sister and I did not have our plan at all under our control.
Back then, I had no way of foreseeing that my father’s meeting with the king would result in my banishment from the country, disguised as a way for me to start a brand new and better life abroad. I had no way of knowing back then that my life was about to change forever and that I would be separated from my dear sister.
