Chapter 314: Acting Strange

I stared at the calm and accepting expression on his face before I narrowed my eyes at him.

“Are you really okay with this?” I asked suspiciously.

“I guess we have to do what we have to do. What I think doesn’t matter,” he replied too casually.

I pursed my lips together before rolling my eyes upwards towards the ceiling.

“You do realize that if we get this busy, then I won’t have time to do any work with the King,” I reminded him pointedly.

He’s not doing this intentionally to keep me from spending time with Desmond, is he?

“You were the one who said that you would somehow manage both of your roles without letting your plan with Desmond impact our arrangement,” Bradon reminded me all too quickly.

I bit down on my lower lip as I hated to admit that he was right. However, when I made that promise, I had never imagined that my workload as Diana would literally take up all of my waking hours for every single day of the week.

“You’re doing this on purpose, aren’t you?” I said accusingly.

“I don’t know what you’re talking about,” Bradon replied dismissively.

“I’m sure that we don’t need to attend all of these events. Why don’t we pick and choose? I’m sure that the team will listen to our request if we ask them to cancel some of these events or ask someone else to go in our place,” I suggested desperately.

“We haven’t even started and you’re already having trouble juggling between your roles?” Bradon asked as he leaned across the table and smirked at me.

I knew that he was intentionally challenging me, and that made me want to so desperately prove him wrong.

“Fine! I’m sure that I can do this...” I said with a renewed sense of determination.

Bradon nodded his head a few times before he smiled too sweetly at me.

“All the events have been added to your calendar so that you can check them on your phone in case you forget,” he said with a smug smile on his face.

“You planned all this didn’t you?” I openly accused him while I wondered why he was doing this.

“We have our responsibilities to fulfill...” Bradon replied while sounding quite bored.

It was clear that he was just playing around with me, but at the same time, I also felt that I didn’t have time for his little games.

“This doesn’t make any sense. Don’t you always hate going out to these events?” I asked as I began frowning a little and confusion.

“If we don’t head out now, we’re going to be late,” Bradon said before standing up from his seat.

“Are you just going to run away like that?” I asked as I quickly stood up from the table.

“I’m not quite sure about who’s the one who’s trying to run away...” he replied as his blue eyes narrowed slightly at me.

...

After making my physical debut back into society while using my own identity as Dahlia, it was about time that I make my official debut back online by re-establishing and reactivating my online social media accounts. At the end of the day, the influence of public figures such as Diana and myself boiled down to our ability to reach a large fan base via our social media accounts. I had continuously updated Diana’s social media accounts while making sure to appease her fans well enough for them to believe that Diana was still alive and well and having one hell of a successful marriage. Now it was time that I used my own social media accounts to establish my presence so that I could draw attention based on Desmond’s plan. I let out a loud sigh when I realized that this would mean that I would have to double down on the effort to ensure that that was attractive content for both accounts.

Meanwhile, I found out that whatever Bradon had in mind was nowhere near a joke. We spent the entire week following our packed schedule to the letter. I had never seen Bradon so devoted to his work as Anthony before. I highly doubted that Anthony would have attended as many events as we did for the duration of that week. By the second day, I was already exhausted and bored out of my mind from putting up the perfect act as my sister.

“You two are a lovely couple, and we are so blessed to see you out together more often,” one of the reporters complimented us openly at one of the events that we attended together.

I smiled perfectly just as Diana would have while internally cursing the insensitive reporter for saying such words. Sure enough our appearance served to provide them with a lot of content for their work; however, it came at the expense of my physical and mental health.

“Thank you very much. Diana just recovered from her cold, so we’re taking this opportunity to come out and about more often,” Bradon replied so smoothly that I wanted to hit him.

Since I knew that there was no way that I could do that in public, I made a mental note to sort this out with him the moment that we were alone. I knew that he was referring to the excuse that he made up for the fact that Diana failed to show up at the airport to welcome me back to the country, and I hated to say that his excuse made perfect sense. After attending three events together by the end of the first day, I had gotten sick of hearing people hailing us as the perfect couple although that was the image that we had always strived to achieve.

Contrary to how things were before, Bradon seemed to be enjoying the attention that we were receiving. He stood close to my side at all the events with an arm around my waist as if he was scared that I would run off somewhere if I had the opportunity. It was a relief that he was working so hard to maintain our charade of a relationship, but I couldn’t help thinking that this was too much. 𝓯𝓻𝒆𝙚𝒘𝓮𝙗𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝒍.𝙘𝓸𝙢
