Chapter 275: Convincing

I knew that they were complimenting me only because I was now once again a useful leverage for them to use to further the position of our family. Ever since the prince started to show interest in me, my parents started paying me more attention. They made sure to take care of me and give me what I want all for the sake that I would maintain my relationship with the prince.

It suddenly felt like the world around me went dark and suddenly multiple spotlights were shining down on me. Regardless of his intentions, it seemed that the prince had successfully put me right on the spot.

“I think now I know why there are so many reporters gathered outside today,” Diana pointed out.

I hated to admit it but she was probably right that all the reporters that we thought were gathered outside because of the court case might actually be here because of what the prince had said about me.

“This is really amazing! He is so romantic. You need to attend the event with him, and of course, you need to allow him to name that school after you. This is going to be such a glorious moment that will go down in history for our family,” my father said with excitement glowing in his eyes.

“I don’t know...I think a school called Dahlia is going to be a bit strange,” Diana commented before letting out a giggle.

I turned to glare at her without saying anything because I didn’t think that it was at all funny. My sister just smiled at me before she let out another giggle as if she could no longer help herself.

“I’m going to go to my room,” I repeated those words again to mark my escape.

“I can help you pick the perfect outfit!” My mother called after me before laughing joyously.

I wondered if they knew that their happiness came at the expense of my complete discomfort. Then again, I knew that they wouldn’t care as long as it got them what they wanted in the end.

Why did Desmond have to go and say all that? Was this his way to get back at me?

After the silence that lasted around a month since we last parted, I honestly thought that it might really be over between us. Apparently, that wasn’t the case at all. It felt like this was just the real beginning and he was giving me a taste of what the Crown Prince can actually do.

Diana entered the room and softly closed the door behind her while I began questioning myself why I hadn’t bothered to lock the door.

“Are you here to laugh at me?” I asked before letting out a long sigh that I had been suppressing.

“Not at all, although I do pity the prospective students that will attend the school called ‘Dahlia’ in the very short future,” Diana said before giggling again.

I rolled my eyes at her before turning away.

“That’s not funny,” I muttered before rolling my eyes again at her.

“So, are you going to go to the official naming event with the prince?” Diana asked excitedly.

“Of course, I’m not going,” I replied as if it was supposed to be obvious.

I couldn’t care less about having a building named after me and I also felt that all the attention that the prince’s public announcement had attracted was nothing but more trouble for me.

“I have to say that I didn’t think that he would go all out just to meet you. You do realize that he’s doing this because he wants to meet you right?” Diana pointed out.

“I know...” I replied softly before trailing off.

Even I could figure out the prince’s intentions and I also found it hard to believe that he would take things this far.

“If you know, then shouldn’t you be going?” Diana asked and I could hear the underlying suggestion in her voice.

“I don’t want to go,” I confessed softly.

“But you think that you should go, right?” Diana said before she smiled knowingly at me.

It felt like she could read her mind, and I could tell that she also thought the same way. However, I could tell that my feelings of resistance were getting in the way. Not to mention the fact that it would be hard to face the prince again after how our last meeting ended.

“Take this advice from your dear sister, Dahlia. You should attend the event with the prince,” Diana said and she sounded so serious.

“But...” I began to disagree but Diana held up her hand to stop me from speaking.

“Listen to me, Dahlia. Just because you attend the meeting, doesn’t mean that you are getting together with the prince in any way. To be honest, I think he is a good match for you, but if you don’t like him, I guess there’s nothing that can be done on that front. However, you need to understand that rejecting him in private and not showing up to a public event based on his invitation are two very different things,” Diana started lecturing me.

I hated to admit that when it came to matters like these, my sister was clearly better than me at figuring out what should be done.

“How so?” I asked as I feigned disinterest.

“Whatever happens between you two in private should remain private. I know the prince sort of broke this rule, but that just shows just how desperate he is to see you and how much he cares for you. Don’t make that face, I’m not trying to come up with excuses to defend the prince, but I do want you to realize that he seems to be very serious about you. Why else would he go to such lengths?” My sister explained as she stared intently at my face.

Perhaps it was because I knew that what she said was true that I felt so tongue-tied and unable to speak back. I had to admit that her words had begun to sway me to a certain extent and I found myself hesitating about what I should do.
