Substitute Wife for the Mafia King R18-Chapter 27: Mirage of a Phantom
“Shh...Stop asking so many questions,” he said as he took a few steps to close the distance between us.
“Who are you?” I asked again as I tried to keep my voice from shaking.
Instead of replying to me, he took another step forward which forced me to back away from him. His icy blue eyes stared deeply into mine as if he could see my bare soul. However, I couldn’t read him or what he was thinking at all. His eyes were just empty and cold.
I felt something against the back of my legs and glancing back made me realize that he had backed me up against the sofa. It felt like my legs had lost all strength and I naturally flopped down onto the sofa behind me. My heart clenched hard in my chest as he kept on staring at me with a face that looked exactly the same as Anthony’s.
What is going on? Who is he? What is going to happen to me?
The man leaned down and trapped me in between his arms and the sofa as he brought his face down close to mine at my level. The intense way that he was staring at me made me want to disappear. I had to admit that for once in a very long time, I was truly scared.
“Who are you?” I asked while hating how my voice trembled helplessly.
Although I didn’t want to meet his eyes, I found myself meeting his cold gaze and staring into the depth of his enchanting blue eyes as if I would manage to find the answer to all the questions that rushed into my mind there. It didn’t come as any surprise when I found his eyes to be void of emotions and any answers.
If this man who I married wasn’t Anthony, then who did I end up marrying?
I felt my entire face go numb and tears stung the back of my eyes when I vividly recalled fragments of the very passion night that I had with him just last night.
Who did I have sex with on my wedding night?
The longer I stared at his attractive face and cold eyes, the more confused I became. The man in front of me looked so much like Anthony; however, the longer I stared at him the more I started to feel that everything about him was different from before. The air about him, his intense aura, the way he spoke and even moved, they felt like polar opposites from how I remembered Anthony to be.
Who is this man?
‘You’re just a body double for your brother. How dare you speak to us this way. You better know your place!’
A body double for his brother?
Does that mean...
“Are you...Anthony’s brother?” I asked while I felt my entire body tremble as I started to fear what could be worse than the worst.
The various faints dots in my head started to connect and what my parents had said, and their reactions started to make sense. I gasped when it occurred to me that perhaps Anthony truly had no idea that I was taking my sister’s place in the wedding from the start. My father’s careless and passive attitude when I demanded that they get Anthony’s agreement to marry me instead of my sister came back to haunt me as I cursed myself for not noticing earlier just how unusually cooperative my father had been. Instead of turning down my request like he had always done, my father agreed to it easily and also mentioned that Anthony and his family would be fine with it.
Is this what he meant by then being fine with it?
Instead of having the real heir of the family marry me instead of my sister, they decided to send his brother to take his place. Before I could stop myself, I let out a scoffing laugh before I turned to the side and covered my mouth with my hand only to laugh some more. A rotten taste filled my mouth, and I realized that I was so disgusted with the absurdity of the situation that I had found myself in. After all that my sister had done to make sure that we both somehow got our happy ending, I ended up marrying a complete stranger and the man that I love was nowhere in sight. 𝓯𝓻𝒆𝙚𝒘𝓮𝙗𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝒍.𝙘𝓸𝙢
“They think that he’s too good for someone like me, don’t they? I don’t and will never deserve him, is that it?” I hissed through clenched teeth.
I should have known already by that time just how unfair life could be and just how poor the held dealt to me was; however, I couldn’t help but feel hurt and disappointed. Maybe no matter what I did, I wouldn’t be able to turn my fate around.
I turned my head back to face him as I stared directly into the depth of his blue eyes. The man in front of me was supposed to be nothing more than a phantom that no one knew about, just a ghost that existed in the shadows. He wasn’t supposed to be real, but he was really here in front of me. I felt frightened and lost, but above all else, I felt extreme rage at my parents’ betrayal.
How dare they do something like this to me even when I had agreed to help them?
“Someone like you...what does that even mean?” he asked in a low whisper.
His hand approached my face, and I winced before I felt the warmth of his fingertips stroking down the side of my face as his eyes watched me as if in wonder. I could tell that he was thinking about something although I hadn’t the faintest idea what could be running through his mind. My body stiffened at his touch, but I was determined not to look away or show him that I was scared. Perhaps my stubbornness and my wounded pride was all that I had to hang on to at that moment.
“Who are you and what are you really like, Leya?” he asked before he brought his face even closer to mine.
Despite knowing that he wasn’t Anthony, my heart still clenched a little in my chest when I heard him call me by my nickname. Although I had no idea why he would be interested in someone like me, I couldn’t ignore the flash of life that entered and lit up his cold blue eyes.
“You’re not Anthony...” I whispered as if to remind myself not to be fooled once again.
I felt a wave of misery wash over me, but my sorrow was quickly replaced by shock when he suddenly crushed his lips against mine. I felt his fingers capture my chin to prevent my escape as his lips moved on mine. The first thought that ran through my mind was just how good his lips felt against mine. His lips teased mine for a moment before I felt the wet heat of his tongue probing between my lips.
“Mhhmm...” I made a sound in my throat that I wasn’t sure whether it was a moan or a sound of protest.
It didn’t seem to matter to him as he thrusted his tongue deftly between my lips and into my mouth. His lips moved on mine as his tongue explored the wet depths of my mouth. My heart quickened in my chest and my body felt weak as our kiss grew deeper and more passionate. His hands moved to caress my breasts while I made small whimpering sounds in my throat. Everything that he was doing to me felt incredibly pleasurable. If he wanted to distract my thoughts and silence my words, his plan was working very well indeed.
My tongue began moving along with his when I could no longer resist the tempting ecstasy from his tongue entwining with mine. His large manly hands moved to squeeze and pump my breasts more aggressively.
