Substitute Wife for the Mafia King R18-Chapter 250: Consumed with Worry
I glanced at the screen on my phone when it lit up and vibrated on my bed. I had gotten used to receiving text messages from Desmond asking me to meet him. If this had happened before my argument with Bradon, I would have headed out right away to meet up with the prince no matter the cost. Although I knew that it would be better if I met up with him, my mood wouldn’t allow it, and I found myself rejecting all of his invitations.
‘Do you want to go out?’ read the short text message that I had received from the prince.
‘Sorry, but I’m not feeling too well,’ I texted back even without thinking about it.
Nothing had happened that would warrant me going out to see the prince. There was no news regarding the change in the king’s condition and that meant that our plans couldn’t go forward. I honestly wanted to know if the time of the king’s death was nearing, but it wasn’t like I could simply ask Desmond if his father was going to die any time soon or why it was taking so long.
‘Is there a flu going around or something? It seems like everyone is sick nowadays...’ Desmond texted back and that made me wonder if there really was a flu going around.
I didn’t know of anyone who was sick in the mansion and I definitely wasn’t feeling sick.
‘I’ll meet you when I feel better. Please let me know if there is any progress or changes...’ I texted him back with my request. I figured that when the time came when I truly needed to make an appearance as his fake girlfriend, he would let me know. So far, all of his invitations were probably for purely personal reasons and had nothing to do with the formal agreement he had made or the trade that we agreed on for him to help me. That being said, I had no idea why he was so interested in seeing me. After all, it had been too long and I wasn’t used to being alone with him anymore.
Suddenly there was a knock on my door. My entire body froze and I had to admit that it occurred to me that Bradon might be standing on the other side of the door.
He wouldn’t actually knock, would he?
I open the door to find Jenna standing there with a polite smile on her face. While trying to ignore the throbbing disappointment that took root in my chest, I mustered a smile that hopefully looked natural.
“I have something for you,” she announced as she took out a small velvet box and handed it to me.
“Is this from Bradon?” I asked although I was quite certain of the answer.
“Yes, master Bradon told me to give this to you. He did say that you would be expecting it,” Jenna replied as her smile widened.
I am expecting to receive this?
“Oh, thank you,” I replied as I took the small velvet box from her hand.
Just as Jenna turned to leave, I called her back only to realize that I wasn’t sure what I wanted to ask her. Jenna looked at me with a slightly confused look on her face as she awaited for me to speak.
“How has Bradon been doing lately?” I asked hesitantly in a small voice.
“Did something happen?” Jenna replied to my question with a question of her own.
I figured that she was probably not aware of the slightly strained relationship between us. That wasn’t surprising because I hadn’t told her anything, and I doubted that Bradon had told her anything either. Either that or she was pretending not to know and wanted to find out from me.
“Not at all. Nothing happened. Thank you for delivering this. I will make sure to thank Bradon later. Thank you,” I thanked her again before smiling brightly and then retreating into my room.
“Wait a second...” Jenna called after me.
“What is it?” I asked as I halted.
“Actually, Master Bradon is sick and is resting in his bedroom. I just thought that I should let you know,” she said before winking at me.
Bradon is...sick?
“Oh, I see. Hopefully, it’s nothing serious. Thank you,” I thanked her before retreating back into my room.
Now that I looked at the small velvet box that I held in my hand, I had a pretty good idea of what was inside. Perhaps Bradon wasn’t completely wrong about me expecting to receive this. Time seemed to have flown by again, and that time of the month when he would gift me with a diamond ring had arrived again.
“Just like clockwork...” I mumbled to myself as I opened the small velvet box.
The sparkling large oval-shaped stone seemed to smile at me as it reflected light. Just like all the rings that he had given to me before, this ring was outstanding and featured a very large solitaire diamond. Usually, he would be the one to give me the ring himself so I was slightly surprised to receive the ring from someone else without him present. Then again, the situation between us wasn’t exactly usual. I slipped the ring onto my ring finger to find out that once again it was a perfect fit.
Is he really sick?
‘Is there a flu going around or something? It seems like everyone is sick nowadays...’
The content of the prince’s message came back to me and I found myself frowning. I had no idea why I was so overly worried about Bradon but he was all that I could think about. Since Jenna had no reason to lie to me, I knew that it was probably true that Bradon was sick and resting in his room. I found it hard for me to believe that someone like him could be sick. Then again, an arrogant and difficult guy isn’t supposed to be especially immuned from the cold, right?
What if it’s not just a common flu?
When that thought entered my mind. I realized that I was more worried about Brandon than I wanted to admit .As time went by, my worries began spiraling out of control as I imagined the condition that he was currently in.
What if he is very sick but he just refuses to go to the hospital?
